- After skating the Ace AF1 Hollows for 6 weeks and still feeling like they haven't broken in yet and are a bit unstable still, I decided to try out some of Ace's Hard Bushings...
Shout out to all of you legends that suggested I try the harder bushings because this is exactly what I needed and has made these Ace AF1 trucks EVEN BETTER!
Ace Trucks:
fasttimes.com.au/skateboards/...
Who else has swapped out their stock bushings for the Ace hard bushings?
I'm using the Bones Bushings Mediums and they're perfect too. I just can't get used with the stocking Aces :/
I have some 10" aces and you almost can not even skate them unless you swap the bushings to the hard bushings.
Yeah 10" trucks would feel way too wild with the standard bushings! @@monatomic
I was thinking about trying the Bones bushings as an alternative but the Ace hard bushings have been great! @@guilhermencto
🖐 Stock were way too loose for me. Love the Ace hard bushings
Harder bushings, loose-ish nut, yes sir! I've always used that configuration, no matter what the trucks are. It's just perfect!
yes dude! Great you liked the harder bushings 😀 Like we all said, more stability but with the same great turn. Best feeling truck out there 🙂
Yeah dude, definitely more stable for a big guy like me!
Can confirm. Agreed. I am on ace af1 with ace hard bushings and it’s nice
Yeah mate, glad you gave the 94as a try!
Definitely a game changer for a heavy guy like me! lol
Very enjoyable chill content 👍🔥
Thank you, appreciate that a lot!
Damn I just sold my old pair of regular AF1s because they were too loose and I mostly skate Thunders anyway, this is giving me truck madness again 😂
Hahaha yeah man, I've been going through some crazy board madness over the last 12 months too!
A medium tight truck has always been the way to go.
Got em on my royals, so perfect.
Swapped only top (conical) bushings with hards - perfect!
I think that's what Spanky does too!
I use the ace low hard bushings in my ventures, ace makes some really great bushings
Oh sick, I was wondering if they made their low bushings to be compatible with other brands trucks 🤔
I changed the ACE original botton bushing for a independent hard bushing and works really well.
Man I've always had to switch out the ace bushings because I'm heavier but love loose trucks, the hard bushings are fantastic and It's annoying buying an extra set of bushings but luckily there fairly cheap and ace always sends quick!
The hard bushings definitely help us big guys lol
I’ve swapped the bottom with the hard ones and kept the 91 top bushings. That was still a little too squirrelly. So now i ride all my Aces with 94/94 and they are really great.
Yeah I heard a few people doing that too but having the double hard is the way to go I think 👌🏽
Nice! I swapped out the bushings on my Ace AF1 55 hollows for Independent 94A black bushings and they feel perfect. I still get the turning I want but with more stability for flip tricks. I also noticed that with harder bushings I don't have to crank down the kingpin nut to get the desired tightness. The stock bushings felt too squishy no matter how much I tightened the nut.
Switched to bones hard the second day i got them. Now they are 🔥
They were going to me my next option but these Ace hard bushings are great!
Bones bushings sucks, medium, hard doesnt matter they blow out after bout a month. Feel good new but thats a gimmick for how weak they are
I love ur vids bro you skate like such a similar setup to me cept i got ace 80s and a anatomy of a wide boy egg, ima get these bushings and do the same
Thank you man 🙏🏼
Damn I really want to get my hands on that deck! I happened to get an Eggzilla 2 though so I'm super keen to set that one up next week 🙌🏼
@LeonPaxton Ace 80s with Ace Hard bushings or 215s. The wheelbite on the Eggzilla is gnarly so you might want one riser.
I rode it for the first time today and was getting hella wheelbite 😂@@sidwellsk8er
@@LeonPaxton yeah I set mine up and stood on it. When I turned it it got wheelbite. So now I'm tripping on where to put the rails at. If positioned wrong rails can make wheelbite even worse.
I actually bent my rails so each end sits just outside of where the wheels would touch my board and then the centre of the rails still creates a platform for board slides without the actual deck touching. I took a little while to figure out but it was either that or trim down the rails to sit lower than where the wheels would touch lol
Greta video as always. How does the ace hard bushing set up feel in comparison to Slappies? A lot of how you describe the feeling of the hard aces (stable, less wheelbite, still very turny) sounds very similar to Slappy reviews.
Thanks dude 🙏🏼
It is kind of like Slappy trucks but Slappy's come perfect straight away lol
I rode AF1’s (with stock bushings) for the last couple of years and wheel bite was something I just learned to live with. However, I’ve recently switched to Slappy ST1’s with stock bushings and they’re just as loose, turn even faster than Ace but the best thing is that wheel bite is almost none existent. A really recommend trying the Slappys because they ride very similar to Ace but they’re just better and no wheel bite.
Hahaha yeah that's what I found with Slappy trucks as well! They really are a great truck. I was looking to try out some of the Slappy Lights that just dropped but they didn't make them in my size 👎🏽
All my AF1s have the replacement hard bushings. The stock ones are like marshmallows!
I do 2 things to my aces that make them great imo. First off, my trucks made a knocking sound when turning (not the normal bushing squeak). A little lube on the outside of the pivot cup took care of that. Secondly, I run just the bottom hard bushing, normal top bushing. I still get all the turn with most of the squirrleyness dialed out
Yeah I've had that sound on other trucks and it becomes so annoying!
That's a good idea, I think Spanky rides his trucks like that too!
I do the opposite, 90a bottom bushing, 94a top bushing, both indy bushings, but i have them set in my thunders, feelsgoodman
Thunder hollow lights are my favourite trucks
Thats what i did, almost think thats what they should come with. Have you tryed the new holow slappys trucks yet? Im wanting to get some when i come across a set
I wanted to try the new Slappy Lights but they didn't release them in my size so I'll definitely have to try the Slappy Hollows next instead 👌🏼
Bones Hard Bushings works on Aces also.
I replaced the old stock bushings on some Indy 169 (9.125") with the blue Indy 92a "medium hard" bushings and they seem a bit too hard, but I haven't broke them in yet.
The new bushings were about 2 mm taller than the old bushings, I assume the old ones were just squished from use. If the don't loosen when they break-in I may dremel the slightest bit off of them.
Yeah these actually felt a bit too hard when I set them up too but they definitely wore in quick and feel perfect now 👌🏽
Hopefully yours wear in eventually too 🤞🏽
Just break em in. I skate the black hard Indy bushings a lot. They are stiff for a min but loosen up also. I never tried the blue med hard I gotta try those next.
You might have gotten the Stage 4 bushings, they're taller.
what @sidwellsk8er said...sounds like the Stage IV bushings. Did they have a white Independent label on them? If so, Stage IV's.
@@CH-nz6ys they're selling them in multiple harnesses now as replacements. Probably would decress movement a lot if the bushings are even bigger.
Told ya haha glad you like them
Appreciate the suggestion so much!
How do you like your trucks Leon in tight to loose? I like the look of Ace but I ride tight trucks and not sure if Ace trucks are suitable? Would they go tight with the hard bushings or still retain that side to side movability? Hopefully this makes sense.
Usually I like them loose but the Ace stock bushings were just too loose for me. Maybe because I'm so heavy lol
They skate pretty much the samew but the harder bushings just help keep the trucks more stable for me. They still turn great 👌🏼
@@LeonPaxton Thanks Leon
Great in new royals as well.
SO TRUE!!!! HAD ONE and i have the same issuies! thanks really ! But it still better thah thunder))))
I put de pig 96a bushings and they are perfect
Hey man. Couldn't help but notice that you're riding a Pilz deck now. How does it feel compared to a Heroin? We cant get them in South Africa but can get a Pilz egg shape. Just wanted to know. P.S. I'm really digging your content bro. keep it up and I hope the ankle heals up soon!
Yeah dude it's sick! The biggest difference is that it felt a little flatter at first because it doesn't have the razor top like the Heroin eggs do and also the woodshop that Jacuzzi use have really stiff and rigid wood which feels good but there isn't much flex to their boards and I've found they chip a little easier because there is no give if that makes sense?
Both companies make great egg boards 🙌🏼
Thanks dude, it's all good now!
@@LeonPaxton thanks, man! I really appreciate the reply!
Aces pivot cup is hand poured and very soft which helps them turn and pinch with harder bushings.
That makes sense, that makes such a difference then 👌🏽
@@LeonPaxton I put the Ace pivot cup in some Stage 4s. That was amazing. The only issue was the truck weight.
Yeah Stage 4 hollows would be amazing!
i like mini logo bushings, i have them in 2 sets of indys. the hards(red) were too hard with both top and bottom, so i have mini logo tops and indy bottoms. i've never had aces so i can't say if/how they'd work with mini logo bushings, but they're a pretty standard/universal shape for like indy/venture/thunder. i'd imagine big guys do better with hard bushings, or custom/split duro setup with a softer bottom. i like med-med/tight trucks and hate wheelbite, 6'3, 225
Damn I didn't know Mini Logo was still a thing lol
Yeah I never really thought of it that way but I definitely need firm bushings for how heavy I am!
@@LeonPaxton i like their wheels and bushings. i've not tried their trucks, but they're supposedly good if you like low trucks. their decks are good if you like flat decks from what i hear. their bearings are supposed to be identical to bones reds just cheaper. the quality has always been on point and the prices are hard to beat. it's powell/skate one, just at a price point
@@diplenskiit’s cool what skate 1 does it’s maybe not the coolest brand based on image and marketing but as for quality it’s a great brand. They are USA made too. Which is cool to me considering most skateboarding company’s are in California but made in china. 🇨🇳
Mini-Logo stuff is great, except c-shape wheels - those are garbige, absurdly soft for 100 duro. A-cut wheels are fine though. Planning to get Mini-Logo hard bushing for my other setups too. Still I think most ML is made in China.
@@taneltolsting2900 i saw a video with a guy saying his 101 duro A-cuts felt more like 90. they do also make 90 duro, so i thought maybe a mix up before printing/packaging. they do have excellent customer service in my experience, so if you reach out i'm sure they'd take care of it. i think i prefer the c-cut shape, my ml wheels are almost 20yo
what board are you using?
This is a Jackson Pilz 9.125" Jacuzzi egg deck 👌🏼
I tried the Ace hard bushings but they just felt way too hard for me. I kinda wish the made a bushing in between their stock and hard.
They loosen up after breaking them in (maybe after one or two sessions) Also, people like Kevin "Spanky" Long use a Hard bottom with a Stock top bushing, so maybe try that ;)
Ya know, I probably didn’t give it enough time to loosen up. I didn’t know Spanky did that,…actually a great idea, I’ll try experimenting with that! Cheers
Literally the only way I can ride Aces.
have you had any issues with the pivot cups?
The pivot cup has been fine and hasn't stretched out at all 👌🏼
@@LeonPaxton dang!! even with slappies? the front truck cup on mine exploded like 3 times ! i had ace send me a new pair of af1s but kept using the original hanger since it had good grooves but it kept happening! so it definitely is just the front hanger so i have a wasted pair of free af1s haha but i think im going to go buy new ones today
Damn! I've actually never had any problems with my pivot cups in any trucks 🤔 @@casemcdonald1187
@@LeonPaxton picked up a fresh set of af1s and they are amazing. no faulty pair haha
For kingpin clearance there’s 2hex inverted kingpins, etangskate has a video with more detail
Sick, I might have to check them out!
I'd probably mix the mids with the hards
I think that's what Spanky does too!
They have medium and hard bushings now
I just use the hard barrel and keep the top stock
Stock bushings should be hard as standard. The ones in most trucks are like jelly
I guess it depends what you prefer and how heavy you are 🤔
So ace or slappy?
I don't know if I can make a full comparison until I skate the Slappy hollows but Slappy wore in straight away and never got any wheelbite 🤔
Slappys or Ace??
That's a good question! I'll be making a video comparison soon 🤝🏽
@@LeonPaxton sweet! I'll be looking forward to it. I'm currently riding Thunder titanium lights and have been debating on getting the slappy lights or Ace.
@@LeonPaxton I was wondering the same, Leon. I've seen a LOT of reviewers in recent months skate Slappys and say they won't go back to Ace. I needed some 9.5" trucks for a new setup and went with the Slappy ST1 Classics. I hope I like them. Looking forward to that comparison.
Ventures have the largest wheelbase try them out on an egg board
I’ll have to try a set!
This largely depends on your weight, others seems to love them as they are
That makes a lot of sense since I'm a big heavy guy so that's probably why I need the harder bushings lol
Wow these turn on a dime what the ha.
They’re so good!
@@LeonPaxton for aure gonna check out sme ace trucks next Christmas Complete
but I thought loose trucks saved lives 😏
They are still loose, just more controllable lol
Aces are made in China too? 🤔🤔
Yes I think they are actually
You're too heavy for the bushings. Get Bones 'Hard' bushings and do NOT remove the bottom boardside washer, as Bones recommends. Leave the bottom washer on or it will lower your geometry and ruin your turn.
These Ace hard bushings feel great but keen to try out the Bones hard bushings!
I used to do it with Ventures back when.. now definitely doing this to my Ace's ASAP 🤌🤌🤌
Lurpiv 2.0 is coming out soon. Hope you will get a pair!
I hope so too, I just watched Dowdy's video on them and they look sick!
