Changing my US dollars at the border of MAURITANIA |S7 - E17|

- In this episode I am starting my adventure to follow the Iron Ore Train, which runs 700 kilometers through the Sahara, in Mauritania. But before I ride to a remote part of Mauritania, I need to make sure I bring enough cash with me. The ATMs don't work, so I have to change all my US dollars for local currency, at the border of Morocco and Mauritania..

I like how the attendant at the gas station was smoking near your fuel drenched fuel bladder. 😳Good times in Mauritania.
Life is cheap in third world countries.
Just another lie they told us! Not so flammable after all. 😂
@@ruth.greening yeah ever poured high octane 98 fuel on your BBQ its plenty flamable LOL
@@ruth.greening Waving the cigarette in the middle of fuel vapour at 5:00 is something we are not get used to in Europe.
Hilarious 😂
When I get stressed at a cliffhanger, I remind myself that I’m watching a video that she edited after the fact, so she is in fact okay.
At the very least we know she was okay when she uploaded this video...😅
I do the exact same thing every time Noraly gets into some risky situation!
It may have been something as simple as the kill switch got turned on in the fall.
I usually watch on TV (no commenting capability) but I switched to computer to make that same observation. There may have been a problem uploading the video. I suppose the Internet is a little sketchy in Mauritania.
😂😂 yeah, it looks a little sketchy to say the least.
So that one person (Noraly) release better and more content in a month than National Geographic in a year with 2000 employees. Just wow!
What I’ve learned from watching this channel from time to time is no matter where you go in the world people are people. Most people are good and are willing to help.
What a cliff hanger ending for me to worry about all weekend. Another epic Itchyboots adventure.
Yes that’s scary
There is sòoo many people praying for her safety...I believe help is on its way!!
Yeah me too! 😱
The video was put out, so clearly she is ok.
Ojee! Thumbs up!👍👍👍
This is sheer bravery Noraly, one word, absolute respect. Prayers for your safety and the Footage is jaw dropping.
Thank you,Diane, for this comment. I fully agree with you.
That's two words. 😛
Greet comment Diane 👍
Noraly is where fear goes to die!😊
Noraly, I have been following you since your first trip from India, have watched almost all of your series, in fact inspired by you I did a recent motorcycle trip from Austria to Pakistan covering over 25000 KMs. I remember when you said “ which track to take” myself riding in the Mongolian mountains where I lost the orientation. But you, riding in the desert, all alone, nothing around, heat, deep sand, have earned a next level of respect. Not everyone has the courage to do this.
And Arshad Bhai, you copied her logo style.. lol.
Btw.. i do watch your videos as well. Nice ones.
From India.
Showing us areas millions of us will never see.. truly awesome ❤
You’re kidding right? A desert is the most boring ride I can imagine… and fraught with danger!
The guy smoking and pumping gas. 🔥 Crazy!
Did you ever watch one of Itchy Boots videos and realize that a simple thumbs-up just wasn't enough? What an epic journey to share with us!
All the time.
We should get to do a thumbs up each time we watch. I'd much rather watch these videos over and over than almost anything else. Some videos I have watched dozens of times and they deserve more than a thumbs up every time. Amazing content here and it's good for you, inspires you to live larger and shows you the world is full of good people. Everybody should watch Itchy Boots.
It is hard to imagine how she creates at this level so consistently. There are so many parts to what she does and she has mastered all of them. Her endless curiosity and charm engages both her veiwers and the people she meets during her travels is the foundation I think. I still struggle to understand how she can be both so positive but also be driven to keep improving her various skills. I will not be suprised a bit if one day we see her winning an Oscar for a documentary,
@@patrickpritchard8301 For me, it's akin to watching athletes that shatter all time records. There are just some humans that seem to achieve more than what is humanly possible. She said something in an interview once that stays with me. She was asked if there was something that happened that she didn't expect. With no hesitation she said that it was how much kindness among her followers would get to her, it wasn't just kindness to her, it was also when we were kind to each other. I may be wrong but, I believe that is what motivates her, growing kindness.
I'm mauritanian i never seen this place before thank you for showing me my country
It was a good thing the petrol fumes spilled on the extra bag did not ignite from the garage assistant's cigarette :-) I am so impressed how Noraly confidently approaches all people and is never phased when groups of money changers gather around her for example. She doesn't seem concerned about being mugged and perhaps it is this confidence and trust in people that always gets her through.
In reality, she has more chance of being mugged in US & many developed western countries than in these less developed poorer nations whose helpful/welcoming people r always vilified by fearmongering mainstream media in d west through stereotypes & propaganda.
Mugging happens in some of the places but those muggers are their own people who steal some money, try to make it real .
OMG Noraly, so hope you're OK, and got Alaska sorted out. What a cliffhanger ... Monday is a loooooong time to wait! 🤔🙏😎
She's obviously fine, she posted about it so has to be after the fact 😂 You only need to worry when you don't see a video or hear anything, otherwise just an inconvenience she obviously gets through.
@@MG-ih7mg obviously yes, Noraly produced this video so she must be alright ... I simply have empathy and concern for her well-being.
I've watched every episode of all seasons but this visit to Morocco and Mauritania tops the "adventure" meter. Please stay safe.
I find it a little worrisome
As much as the problem with Alaska is worrisome we know that got it sorted by the fact that she posted this video. All we have to do is worry/wonder how long it took and how was she able to cope. Thanks for posting as always. Best wishes for your continued safety, All of your subscribers care about you. 🏍
Now I am convinced you are the bravest woman I know! Some of your interactions in this episode were potentially dangerous but you did not show any fear. Mad respect
she is crazy 🤣
Sometimes it seems to me that this is the plot of a detective movie.
Couldn’t believe how many guys just strolled up at the money exchange to have a look!
I swear Noraly can read our minds while we're watching. About the time i think "that would make great drone footage" she inserts said drone footage. I love seeing, from a different perspective, how Noraly and Alaska fit in to the larger surrounding terrain. You get a sense for how very small she and her bike really are compared to the larger empty desert. What a brave individual you are Noraly !
❤
She is just that, a brave individual, smart, talented and beautiful. Ride safe and have fun Noraly. 🇺🇸
I agree, the drone shots tell amazing stories and a perspective reality of the terrain. Before she panned out you can see the tires wobble in the deep sand.
Drones in populated areas will cost you up to confiscation and fees, and it will open the door for "fixers" to fix it and you, of course.
I know it wasn’t planned, but that’s one heck of a cliffhanger. Now we must wait until Monday. Best of luck wherever you’re at now. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸
Noraly's music is always spot-on.
Noraly, Your tour selections are just amazing not to also mention just what a very brave person you are. not many woman would care to endue
the sheer loneliness and the risks involved with these kinds of adventures.however congratulations from us all in kiwi land NEW ZEALAND.
People I know who have been to Mauritania have said it is to dangerous to travel there and were very happy to get out in good shape. Be Safe and Be Very Careful. 🇨🇦
probably a lie
The east and north of Mauritania is dangerous
Yeh, dodgy money exchange, dodgy vehicles, dodgy petrol attendants……don’t think Mauritania will be on my bucket list. TAKE CARE NORALY, I HOPE YOU STAY SAFE🤞🇬🇧
The Mauritanians are a beautiful people and their country is beautiful and safe in most regions, especially the coastal ones. You just have to avoid its desert borders with Algeria, Morocco and Mali.
People are very nice… but what I don’t like about Mauritania is the policeman every check point they are ask for money
It's somewhat comforting to see that Noraly is carrying what appears to be a Garmin Inreach satellite communicator.
18:33 The sight of a long line of trains transporting iron ore in the middle of the desert is majestic. From a distance, it looks like a procession of ants. Very impressive.😲
So I've come to the conclusion that there aren't enough superlatives to describe you so I will just leave it at "amazing, stunning and breathtaking." No words really do justice.
After seeing the cliffhanger that Alaska won't start.
Ramdan all the way in Morocco: no problem I fix
Amazing pictures of the train behind you Noraly with sand and blue sky , would look fabulous as a poster or photograph.
The iron ore train was awesome, reminded me of the time in 1975 I worked for Hamersley Iron Pilbara Western Australia and serviced the trains that bought iron ore in from the west to be exported to Japan..one of my jobs was the hose out the dead kangaroos.😃
Had to laugh when the guy filling you up was smoking around petrol😮.As for dodgy cars, remember catching a taxi in Kenya with Army mates the petrol tank was a 5ltr plastic container under the drivers seat next to battery. We couldn't make out why it was so drafty then realised there was no windscreen😅.Great times and thankyou for taking us on your journey.
You're a brave human this is not easy and By the way, you are right Money in Mauritania is confusing even for me as a mauritanienne, not to scare you but be more careful with who you're changing money frome in general who you deal with and also remember don't judge the country based on some silly situations and finally I hope you have a safe trip.
Traversing all different kinds of roads, countries and meet all different kind of people. This is really something else.
Have been watching you in your adorable videos from your start journey from India, however in between missed some, along with me my mother also watched and was very glad to see, as she was a very strong and lived her life in educating children especially girls, she always said that the girls should be courageous and self sustainable, she passed away 2 years ago, whenever i see your videos I miss her as she mostly accompanied me while watching.
God bless you 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Noraly. I helped build those blue and beige locomotives in London Ontario,Canada. What a small world.
May God protect you from all harm. Your follower from Morocco 🇲🇦❤🏍️🏍️🏍️
Got a bad feeling about these guys, this place. Time for a little R&R Noraly. Like in the Lake District.
Keep spreading you smile and positive thinking around the world
You make it better episode by episode!
I've been interested to see in both Morocco and Mauritania how completely unfazed the men have been meeting a young woman travelling alone on a motorbike, at the petrol stations and check points for example. Especially considering some of the journies Noraly has either just completed, or still to complete. Totally unfazed. Just friendly, interested, and helpful. Fabulous. Love it.
Whenever I think your stories can't get any better, they do. And this one a cliffhanger to boot. I just can't imagine doing what you're doing. And alone.
Great stuff Noraly, another fantastic adventure. Don't worry about the people moaning that there are not enough trees in your Sahara videos ! They are probably the same ones that would say the Arctic is a bit too snowy ! ;-) 😂😂💪👍
😅😅😅
One thing I've learned watching these videos is 'don't sweat the small stuff'. With each encounter I'm wondering, how is this going to pan out? Noraly always keeps a cool demeanor and always forges ahead. Incredibly inspiring.
I don't know why you choose to do your vlog in English, but as I am an American born English speaker, I appreciate that you do. I do like to hear your attempts to communicate in the various languages that your encounter. You seem to always have good interactions with the locals. You are so fearless.
it hits a broader audience that why.
I don’t find your desert riding boring at all! Bring it on, and safe travels always!
I love this channel it takes me back 40 years and brings back all the emotions that riding a bike gives you.
I enjoy riding in the same way but not in that remote level. I'm belonging to the million stupid guys going everyday to work and have just a couple of weeks off per year.
Once a biker always a biker
🇮🇹 Here WE are, folks! Gooood Afternoon, Noraly, Internet, sisters and brothers, let’s goooooo, as usual! 🇮🇹
You are such a brave woman
Thanks Noraly you’re awesome 👍🏻😎🏍️
What a big difference between Morocco and Mauritania! The former looks more modernized. Travel these huge stretches of sand WOW. I hope the problem with the pump will be solved.. I'm holding my breath. Good luck!!🛻👍👍👍
there is a big difference in economy between the two countries so its obvious
Maybe this train transported the iron for your next Honda. Well, if you ask me...... I think the cars in Nouadhibou look quite good for wrecks. About Alaska not storting. I was once a car mechanic and in the Dutch language we make a difference between not "starting" and not "aanslaan" ,means it doesn't by run itself.
The solution for both problems couldn't be more different. Not starting *battery, *starting engine, *cable from battery to starting engine disconnected, *starting relay * starting button. So you push the starter button and hear nothing. Not: yiebeyiebeyiebeyiebe
Not running: you push the button or turn the key and you hear the starting engine turning, (yiebeyiebeyiebe) the combustion engine, but this isn't going to run by itself. Vroemvroemvroem. Problems: *sparkplugs, *gas, *engine flooded and much more I know !
So for the roadside assistente it is good to know what's the problem. But the professionals like ADAC, ANWB, AA, RAC have many stuff on board. How this is in Mauritanië...I don't know
"Catching" the train - fun! Oy, the end of this episode!! Because you posted the video, at least we know you are not a well-hydrated skeleton out in the desert somewhere. 😁
Total respect, bigger cajones than anyone I've met.... go girl and stay safe!!
you are the bravest person I know !! the utmost respect and admiration to you !! god be with you .
Wow -- that petrol station operator was smoking while pumping -- yikes! I don't know why I got a bit of goosebumps when you greeted that train but, hey, it happened. I'm trying to remember now where it was that you raced a train -- somewhere in the lower USA, I think. Well, I'll just have to go back and watch again, LOL. Your delight in adventuring is contagious -- love it! But in the last seconds . . . Alaska won't start -- oh no! Again, I remind myself that you are safe, but jeepers, Monday (and your next video) can't come soon enough now . . .
You should remind Alaska that she's a Honda and to snap out of it.😄
It is amazing how many cars that train pulles.
I know this route from Noadhiboy to Choum , I did it in 2003 , in 4x4, and I burst a wheel with a piece of train track buried in the sand . My greatest respects for what you do. When one has been there, really appreciate the courage that you put doing these inhospitable routes.
Oh my gosh Noraly after seeing that preview, I won’t be able to sleep until I find out what’s going on with Alaska!! You really know how to keep us in suspense!!!
Wow...that guy with lighted cigarette as he filled a car with petrol 😨.....and the impossibly long train !!!! amazing sights.......but, go safely and I hope Alaska is ok and your journey continues !!!!
9:08 when it comes to money you trust only your mother language 😅
Guy smoking as he fills up the car. Brilliant.
It is “Cliff Hanger Friday”. Will Noraly make it to her destination????? or will she be rescued by a Handsome prince with an English accent? (Probably not) There is a high probability Itchy Boots will figure it out, fix it, start Alaska and arrive at her destination none the worse for wear. Don’t ya just love a happy ending.👍😊
What I’ve learned watching Noraly is there isn’t a problem she can’t handle 💪🏼 Hope the issue with Alaska was quickly resolved!
A woman travelling by herself here is risky especially as she goes more south. Hope she carries some form of defence.
@@OneTwoMark Sometimes I wonder whether she actually does carry a weapon or not. I'm guessing that would be troublesome at border crossings and all. I saw her doing a lot of dangerous stuff and seem to have complete trust to strangers in the middle of nowhere. She once really protested against all the ''Be careful'' comments saying she knows what she's doing and she's not naive or anything.
My father still thinks she doesn't travel alone, which is absolutely ridicilous.
@@subutaynoyan5372 Have often wondered the same. I actually think the various cameras and the GPS emergency beacon she has on show might act as a deterrent. Certainly not full proof if someone really wanted to hurt her in some way. But a visual deterrent nonetheless. She might know some nifty self defence moves also. God willing that nothing bad will ever happen to her.
I hope it is resolved in 72 hours.
@@subutaynoyan5372 I imagine, if Noraly felt she needed a weapon she wouldn't be riding in that area.
I am afraid for your safety some time Noraly, Please stay safe !! Please !!!
You are awesome in everything you do..im endlessly impressed by your rides!
Unbelievable the dude at petrol station is having a smoke 😂 and there is Noraly with spilled fuel all over her lagguage 😮
No danger, only an open flame or spark will ignite gasoline.
Lawrence of Arabia and Noraly of Mauritania!
It's amazing that 3 locomotives can pull that much weight!
usually modern bikes have a switch that shuts engine after a fall maybe a side stand or near the clutch
cant exactly call the local breakdown recovery but im sure you get it sorted x
Always praying for your safety and love your adventures
Riding alongside the track makes me think of the time I rode the same route on the Classic Paris - Dakar Rally in 2008. That track is not as easy as you are making it look considering you are fully loaded. You left us hanging!! Tot ziens Noraly.
A cliffhanger... er, sand dune hanger! Somehow I bet you got out of there safely. The scene with the train in the background on the horizon was epic! Sandy Trails!
What a cliffhanger! What a journey! Thx for sharing it with us!
You're such an inspiration!!!! Thank you for being you!
Whoa Itchy Boots...way to leave us hanging. Tho, you've surely figured out that problem. 💥💪🏆✨🎶🤠♥️Much love & prayers for guidance & protection always.
The gas station guy smoking a cigarette was fun, I was waiting for everything to go up in a ball of flame.
No open flame, no problem.
The suspense! always dread breaking down in the middle of nowhere.
The gas attendant with the cigarette ! Be safe out there Noraly
A lifetime ago I was in Singapore, and needed to get US money changed to local dollars. My friends that lived there told me to go to the money changers on the street and forget about the banks, that scene exchanging US dollars took me right back. Thanks for taking us along Noraly.
Why are banks discouraged?
@@nelson1174 the money changers gives better rates....no service fees.....their rates are displayed at the back of their booths...so you can walk around and compare.
I am in Singapore. They were/are not on the streets like these guys but within buildings and all the exchange rates are visible. The guys Noraly met were literally on the v hot streets with calculators 😊 Yes money changers have better rates. The banks in Singapore are so crowded and i do not like going to them unless really necessary.

For sure this journey is going to be epic! Noraly you definitely have courage to say the least, safe travels
Unbelievable insight into these places. Just amazing. Thank you.
Oh Lordy, go from great hotel, to dead engine. It’s a break from starter button to engine. A fuse, relay. Sending some energy to you Noraly. It’s an easy fix, but I’m in Virginia……..😳❤️
Mauretania looks like a post apocaliptic world, I knew it wasn't the most modern country in the world, but I didn't expect this tbh
What a massive expanse of desert. Thanks for bringing us along. Ride safe!
Loving the series and the desert riding. Sooo much more than sand! Can't wait now for Monday ❤
Noraly your respect, smile and being so sure of yourself is so strong!!!!!! Yep! You are a pure leader! ❤️
So many Series 3 Land Rovers there and in Morocco - heaven! I own one here in the UK too, great to see so many working there.
Noraly, you are amazing! I love this series; it really tests all of the skills acquired during the other seasons from maneuvering Alaska to communicating with the locals. Well done.
Casually smoking a cigarette as he fills up cars, bikes and bags 💥
It made me shake my head. I mean I'm sure we all have our blind spots, but how did this guy live this long? 😂

A contributing factor as to why life expectancy in countries like this are so low.
With that lax attitude... They WILL find out the hard way.

Wow! What an episode! And the ending…. Glad you roll with a Beacon! I hope you are ok… and I am glad you roll heavy with water and food.
I love the desert riding it looks awesome!! Thank you for taking us across Sahara a magical place!! Stay safe!
Itchy Boots... my favorite UA-cam channel! The traffic at the beginning looked pretty chaotic, but nothing like when you were in Turbo. That was the worst. The guy smoking the cigarette at the gas pump was a fool. That money exchange was very weird, very weird. Oh no! Ending on a cliff hanger!

Just love the beautiful isolation and openness of the desert. With occasional trees and small villages. Wonderful images. Thank you.
Thanks Noraly for taking us along on your travels!
Now this is challenging, and probably the most dangerous episode I've seen so far. A breakdown in the middle of the desert could be deadly, and I believe all your viewers are concerned for your safety. However, you are a very capable person and have shown your considerable experience in handling problems. I depend on your thrice weekly videos for entertainment and uplifting adventure. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
To me the one in the mountains where she got so cold was more dangerous, but it is subjective.
@@oklahomahank2378 To me it was the river running across the road in Bolivia. Then again, I don't like heights (actually edges) so, the abandoned railroad bridge in Columbia would have been suicide for me to attempt.
@@jerrym3261 I had forgotten about the water in Bolivia. I would have turned around, but she made it.
Loving the different camera angles especially when the camera was showing the long train that was in the background. Very encompassing experience. Thanks Noraly.
Time and time again, what an exhilarating adventure. As a passionate adventure rider, you have my respect and admiration, Noraly. Also, the way this episode finishes here, it leaves me worried to see you picked that fall and could not restart the bike. I wish good luck and safe journey until next time!
These desert scenes are beyond epic.
Truly incredible riding.
They have a desolation and a beauty that really is beyond the descriptive reach of language.
Wonderful videography, Noraly!
I was asked by a Moroccan border guard, why am I wanting to go to Mauritania. I soon discovered the meaning of his question😛
why?
Wonder what would happen if the blowing wind erases the old tracks on the sand??
Depends on when you were heading there. less than a decade ago Mauritania was hostile to foreign visitors. Things changed though.
