Recently got a new dual zone refrigerator / freezer. The fridge is a Setpower RV45D. And I’ve been very happy with it.
In an attempt to take good care of the the fridge, I have decided to make a small change to my electrical system. Part of changing the wiring is to get rid of the standard 12 volt (or cigarette lighter) socket that comes with the fridge. I’ve found the 12 volt sockets wiggle loose as I drive. And that can be bad if the fridge is full of food.
A much better connector type is the Anderson Powerpole connectors. They hold strong, meaning less of a chance of the fridge ever losing power.
I bought the connectors at W-E Supply in San Diego.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

Thank you for bringing us along and explaining what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. I saw this on the Internet so it must be true that the (NIIC) National Institute of Ice Cream recommends only using ice cream as a way to test your freezer. I’m so glad you use this tried-and-true method to confirm that your freezer is working. Now that I’ve messed with everybody have a great day and thanks again.
✌🏼
Right on! Yes, testing using the scientific method is the best way to be sure of the results and that the freezer is working correctly. Good for you! Also, switching over the connection to Andersen Power Pole connecters is exactly the right thing to do! Go you!
I also switched to Anderson PowerPole connectors for the basement fridge/freezer. I standardized on them for additions I make needing 12VDC on the RV.
Your scientific method was impeccably applied to the Freezer QC, sir. Huzzah!
You can reverse porch pirate that old refrigerator to get rid of it. Just place it in an old Amazon box, and drop it off at anyone's front door during the day. You're welcome. Remember, I am always here to help.
Ice cream - only for testing - OF COURSE, great I love that
And of course, week after week...testing still needs to be done!
Love the how-to instruction!
Scott, the Ice Cream Scientist. And you're doing it with a complete straight face... anything in the name of science!
Yes Scott I agree you should test the freezer later to see if your mini bars are still weel frozen. LOL.
You did your research , respect !
Anderson connectors are the only way to go : it could save your rig ,
as the cigarette connectors will overheat and could cause a fire.
Brilliant job, thanks for sharing Scott !
Great café...icecream check, was it satisfying..it looked tasty, an you say it with a serious face made me chuckle.. Great connection
Good to see your product testing is going well! ✌
I’ll keep testing to make double sure
Testing texture ??? Best response I’ve ever heard 😂
Isn’t that how you test your freezer?
Eating the ice cream, to see if it’s frozen……😂 I approve of your methods for testing hypotheses.
Loved the wiring tutorial, always wondered how that all worked.
Thanks for the tests, it’s really appreciated 😊
I’m glad you know what you’re doing, it’s all Greek to me 😊 and yet very interesting
I have used Anderson Power Poles for years with my Amateur radio equipment. Great choice.
Fridge thermometer..great idea!
This is exactly how I've tested my freezer over the past 15 years...quality must remain high 🤣🍦🍧🍨...tfs...
😂✌🏼
I know you said not to leave comments like this but :) When you pulled that knife towards your finger I shut my eyes and went EEK!!!
Thanks for taking one for the team. Hope you are okay after all that testing!! 😁
To be honest, much more testing is needed 🙃
Love how you got your coffee in your ice cream bar....lol
Good to see your numbers going up 'cause of your genuineness. Thanks for entertaient for the last 4-5 years we've been watching you.
Aww, Thanks! Nice of you to stick around all this time.
I always approve of serious scientific research.
OMG, I feel the same way about cigarette lighter plugs. I can’t stand them! I have a plan to change all of the things I have with those plugs over to an Anderson style plug.
Glad to see your electrical skills are working out and that freezer testing is spot on😎
I love your testing , I can relate to that.
Thanks for the tutorial on the connectors. Useful information
Ice cream 🍦😋 for testing purposes. Great idea! I should "test" my fridge too! 😆
You MUST test your fridge!
I think you need to continually test your freezer with ice cream treats just to make sure ❄. Also I just spoke to a guy with a 2016 Ram Promaster City with 143000 miles and I asking about reliability, he said after taking care of some of the same issues as yours it has been pretty good. With all your help with my van questions I hope I can give you some good news. Take care!
,
That is good news. Thanks ✌🏼
Man of many Talents 🤟🤙🤘
✌🏼
A great way of testing.
Sure brotha, testing! (; Love your humor lmao They must taste amazing!
Oddly enough I too have been testing my house freezer with some Annie's ice cream sandwiches. 😁
Ah, you’re aware of the proper freezer testing procedure 👍🏼
I’m so happy for your upgrade and being able to have a freezer !! Also, thanks for this particular video showing how to change to the Anderson style connections ! I too would want to change to them and feel free of concern about the “cigarette lighter plug” lol 🤓
This is so informative.
Excellent job!
Good idea to go with the marine grade 12awg. The only thing I’d do differently is to wrap the wire in a spilt conduit, especially is the wire isn’t buried behind something.
Nice fridge, btw. Looking forward to seeing how well your subsequent ice cream test go.😊
Right, just to test freezer 😊
OK, here is a crazy comment that you asked for 🙂If you are wiring is just for the fridge, and you probably are since you already have a more convenient fuse box to tap into, why not just go directly from the fridge to the battery without the Anderson connector in the middle? Since you adopted Anderson connector, it's not going to be a general purpose 12V outlet anyway - not too many devices come with Anderson plugs. And if you have to replace cigarette lighter plug, you could just as well replace it with 2-prong plug that plugs into the fridge cord.
Love your new fridge btw. I used to have Alpicool 2-zone fridge before, but it didn't work out well for me: fridge side would freeze if I keep the freezer too cold, and freezer side would melt if I keep fridge side warmer. But I'll try your Setpower model if/when my Iceco breaks. Keep us posted how it works out!
I’ve already switched a bunch of 12volt appliances to the Anderson Connectors.
And I am using the Anderson Connectors to be able to easily switch the power source going to the fridge.
Also, with the idea of being prepared, I wanted another multi purpose line connected to the battery.
Your ICECO fridge is not likely to fail anytime soon. Those are great units.
Keep testing and enjoy🤣🍦
👍
Love new good gadget reviews! Thanks!
😄YES, WE NEED TO TEST ICE CREAM!
LOL!! Eat the ice cream just for the test. 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
All my Thermal insulation is done in my van all my wiring is in place I have a friend he is a electrician he is going to hook everything up for me I just bought a Domestic 95 liter Dual zone powered refrigerator and freezer and a wabasso heater fuel gas and bought a mackerel 1500 with solar panels then I have to build everything up in van that will take the longest time
Awesome. But is that second one really just to test whether everything works? 😁 I suspect ......
You just love them.... 😄
It’s a standard freezer test 🙃
Cool! 🥶
😆
🦋
Funny thanks
Coffee ice cream chocolate brownies 😋 I have that same 12v plug on my iceco vl60 and it does come lose easily but I will use it until I hardwire
Those ice cream sandwiches were awesome.
Years ago, I lost a whole fridge full of food because of a loose 12v plug. I’ve been traumatized ever since.
Happy i got to see how your delicious coffee ice cream turned out in your freezer. I really want to upgrade to a bigger refrigerator. But i do have a tiny 12v one for now. I just can't right now being that things have become harder. But hopefully and i pray i find a job somewhere close to me. Then i can upgrade 😃
Wishing you all the best.

Man! ... For somebody who doesn't know what he's doin'... btw, sorry 'bout all the 'testing' you're havin' to do ... We'll keep you in our prayers. 🙏
Thanks. I suffer along for all of you.
Now I personally say no to negativity!
⭐️ was wondering if anyone noticed the little easter egg
😊😊😊😊
👍✌
Nice video! Been meaning to ask you, which magnet are you using for hanging your pots? I recently bought some and it's not quite strong enough. Tia
I don’t currently have any pots being held up with magnets. In the past I’ve found Home Depot sells a very strong magnet. They sell one with a built in hook. It is rated for something like 60#.
Dang I was almost first lol hello scotty
Who’s scotty?
I see you as The First , congrats !
What would you suggest if I don't have a house battery but just a jackery powering the fridge? I did have the plug rattle loose.😣 what do you thinl of replacing cig. Lighter plug with a 110 plug?
If your fridge is a 12volt fridge then you’d need to keep it plugged into a 12volt power source. Plugging your fridge into 110 would probably fry it.
Does your Jackery have any other 12v connectors? Like: barrel connectors or Anderson Powerpole?
I switched my fridge’s power cord to Anderson Powerpole.
Oh wait. You’re probably asking about using the 12v converter that came with your fridge, right? I’m a little slow sometimes (frequently).
Yes, the 110 plug would be more secure. The drawback is you will be using about 30% more power using the Jackery’s inverter. Perhaps even a little more since the fridge power supply will waste more power converting the 110v ac back to 12v dc.
You might try a marine plug. Blue Sea Systems makes a 12volt plug that has a gasket that helps keep it in place. The plug is designed to work with the company’s 12v receptacle, but I’ve found the plug works well in a regular 12v receptacle like your Jackery.
A question about coffee. You often say that you've found coffee that you really like on sale; is there certain markets in California that you find these sale items ? If so, would you mind giving me a heads up on which ones. Thank you.
There’s no secret there. I’ve mentioned getting coffee at Sprouts and Grocery Outlet more than anywhere else lately.
My videos are put up on a delay, so you probably won’t find the same deal when I talk about it.
I always google the store website and look over the sale flyers. That’s how I’ve found the best prices.
You're so cute... must keep testing. 😂😂😎
Scott, how long did it take for the power on the Bullbat to go from 80% to 72%? I missed it if you said.
I didn’t keep track exactly. Maybe an hour and a half. That was the first time powering up the fridge. So it used more power it does now maintaining the set temperature.
@@StaticCamperVan Ah, I see.
So how is the frig/freezer doing? I have heard that the combos don't perform that well.
No problems whatsoever. I’m very happy with the fridge. Running the freezer does use more electricity. That’s the only negative.
@@StaticCamperVan Great! Sounds like there is no bleed over issue, that each side holds it proper temperature. Thanks!
Hair looks great! What final product do you use?
Believe it or not, Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Hand Cream.
For someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing - you sure do seem to know what you’re doing. Keep testing that ice cream. Data is truth.
Jackery 1500
Test ice cream 🙄.
Good call on West Marine.
I didn’t hear 2 clicks.
Just now occurring to me that I should conduct a weekly ice cream test. Gotta make sure the freezer is working properly!
Shouldn't it be daily for a more reliable result? As a former T&M (Test and Measurement) equipment specialist I highly recommend to perform a routine test as frequent as possible!
@@Mixer000999 you’re the expert. We best take your advice!
You could have just spent you money at a local car stereo shop. Home Depot is not the best option. And I suspect a marine supply business probably has a higher cost.
Okay I wont tell you your wiring is incorrect but isnt that house wire ? If it is you dont normaly crimp connections on it you use merrit connectors or twist on type.
The Marine wire that was bought from West Marine isn’t house wire.
That’s the snarkiest response I could muster at this hour🙃
hash browns are not junk food if you put ketchup on them...
ketchup is a daily vegetable you know
Wait a minute? I don't get it?? Potatoes NO GOOD... yet Sugary Desserts are? Hmmmm...
You heard it here first!
Testing for scientific purposes only...
Purely Scientific!
You forgot coffee. I'm so disappointed.
I made and drank coffee on camera. And it was very good coffee, too.
How did i miss that in the middle??? I dont trust myself any longer haha
