- Welcome to #Edipsos, the beautiful spa center of #Evia and the most important wellness resort in #Greece
We are located in the center of Greece and specifically in the North #Evian Gulf that looks like a vast blue #lake. A rare geological #phenomenon takes place on the lacy shores of Evia #island. Hot #thermal #water gushes from springs and ends up in the #sea creating #magical geological formations.
According to #mythology, the ancient gods created the #baths so that #Hercules could rest after his labours, while some associate Edipsos with the #biblical #Sodom and #Gomorrah that were destroyed after the earth was overturned and sank. The geographer #Strabo mentions Edipsos as "Hercules #thermae", while important references to the #beneficial properties of the thermal waters of the region are made by #Aristotle and #Herodotus.
It is claimed that the name of Edipsos is etymologically derived from the words aidoion - aptomai meaning “vulva related”, as the thermal waters have been proven to be suitable, among other things, for diseases of the male and female genitals.

The #city has a population of 2.5 thousand inhabitants and is part the Municipality of #Istiaia - Edipsos. It lies 2.5 hours from #Athens via the #Arkitsa ferry or 3 hours by car via #Chalkida. From #Thessaloniki visitors will need a total of 3 hours via the #ferry #Glyfa - #Agiokampos.
As you will find out, Edipsos has been a #cosmopolitan #resort of #wellness, #healing and #relaxation since #antiquity.
