1988-98 Chevy OBS LS Swapped Twin Cooling Fan and Radiator Install

- Part 25: Today the 91 OBS gets the radiator, twin cooling fans and CAI installed. The radiator is a more common 28" core 91 OBS 5.7 radiator, so install is not fancy. It is a bit different because of the fans. The fans were found on Ebay and fit a late 90's Camaro along with the wiring harness. I had to get a bit creative to make them fit, but it was "very do-able", so you can do this at home with minimal fuss. The CAI uses parts from the donor Suburban, aftermarket parts. Not a big $ investment. More time is spent on showing how I installed the fans AND how to wire them up.

As always thanks for the info you provide.
Great vidoes guy's, your 95 OBS swap helped me out quite a bit, keep them coming!
Great to hear! Thank you!
Outstanding !!! You always go into great detail trying to help us little guys. Do you have the wiring diagram for the dual fans. Didn't see it in the discription
I just added it, I was in a hurry when I published and forgot. It is also in the last 10 sec of the video. Thanks for watching!
Great info, thank you!!
Awesome videos lesrn alot from your videos
Glad you like them! Thank you.
You do a great job!! Can you tell me we’re I need to ground my engine? Some how I think there is three!
You can never have too many. I have primary negative battery cable to engine head, also from negative battery to frame, also have ground from back of engine block to body and to frame as well.
Thank you so mush for learn as 👍🏻💪🏽
Always welcome
Hi, great video. Will there be a video on how you wired the a/c compressor?
Yes I will, I'll cover more details of the wiring in an upcoming video.
Doesn't the PCM have a high and low wire coming from both the blue and red PCM connectors? You only use one????
Use blue pin 42 for cooling fan #1 and red pin 43 for 2nd cooling fan. I used both.
@@laurencevillegarage thanx..... great content kept it coming 👏
@@laurencevillegarage one of those pinout shows it not to be in use and the other one is for the AC control if I'm not running AC will that work?
@@salreyes3215 yes, they will work. You will need to let whoever does your tune know that you have wires in those locations for that purpose. To make it even easier, use one of the uncut wires you removed earlier that has a pin on it. Now you will have 2 wires for your fans (be sure and label them). When you make your harness relay/fuse box you can go ahead and include a couple of relays and fans to go with it. Be sure and use a weather tight box for your box to keep moisture out.
@@laurencevillegarage yes I ordered the same box you used. Thanx a million 👍
👍 being like that, that fan will remain on , as long as d compressor , is on,,
Yes it will, thanks for watching!
@@laurencevillegarage @ on dbw, harness, what u did to eliminate the neutral switch
@@gerardolopez5875 I did not remove it, on manual transmission it's on the clutch pedal assembly.
What radiator and cold air intake did you use?
The radiator is standard 1991 Chevy c1500 with 5.7 and 28" core. As I mentioned in the video, the CAI was put together with various parts from the donor Suburban, a couple of parts I had laying around and a coupler and air filter that I purchased off ebay. I put links in the description below the video where I bought those items and price paid.
Is the radiator the original of the 5.3?
No, it is what would be correct for a V8 1991 Chevy OBS
@@laurencevillegarage So can I use a radiator of a v8 of 93?, for my 5.3 of 2002?
Yes. Depending on the water pump you choose, there is some "play" with the coolant outlet...and you can choose an aftermarket inlet flange to change the angle a bit as well if needed. Just be careful to choose a pump (if you change it out) to work with the location of your throttle body and other accessories.
@@laurencevillegarage All right, thank you very much.
Whats the part number or the info on the Radiator?
It's a stock replacement for a 5.7 '91 model truck. Nothing fancy....works great, no overheating issues.
@laurencevillegarage I noticed it's not a thin one, I wanted a 454 one but seems a little bit to big. Where yours looks just right.
Thank you for the info I appreciate it.
What fans where these?
All the info is in the description below the video.
What did you do for vacuum for brake booster?
The vacuum is attached to the back of the intake manifold.
@@laurencevillegarage I’m asking because on my manifold I think the port is blocked off
If you are using a truck manifold, that plug can come out and a "nipple" can go in. There are other ways to get a hose from the brake booster to the intake if that is not possible.
