The year was 1995, I was in 5th grade and asked my parents if I could play the electric violin because all I wanted to do was play Ants Marching! Took lessons for a year, but was no Boyd Tinsley!

Dave isn't sufficient when you are dealing with serious music heads though. There are too many more famous and iconic artists named David...Bowie, Byrne, Gilmour, Crosby, etc. You would find yourself having to use too much context, as in, "Hey could you pass me that Dave album? There, next to that copy of Cracked Rear View by Hootie & The Blowfish."
I hope Twisted Tea uses this in their next commercial...

I want to personally thank the entire Dave matthews band. The OG 5, Dave, Stefan, carter, Boyd and the late great Leroi Moore. All of you touched my heart with your music, but Leroi was special, you know that. I also have to include Butch Taylor, and of course, the Lovely Ladies. Before these
crowded streets was just a beautiful ballad from beginning to end. I haven’t kept up with a lot of the newer songs, but I plan on learning them all and jamming out all summer, just in time for Ocean’s calling in September in Ocean City Maryland, that’s where I live now. It sold out in like 2 hours, of course, but I’ll get some tickets somewhere, and I plan to be close enough to touch all of your hands. So, stay blessed, stay well, and take grace in knowing you may have saved my life with your music, and at the minimum, changed my life forever.

I remember buying Under the Table and Dreaming back in 1994, it was so fresh and completely different than anything else I ever heard, every time I listen to it, it takes me back to that time in my life, the 90's were a great time to be young and alive

The thing about The Dave Matthews band is the "depth" of their music is astounding! So many layers of different instruments come together within the song its hard to really know where its all coming from

I remember when I first heard this song I thought for sure this band would be a one hit wonder. Not because the song sucked, I've always loved it, but it just seemed so different. I was proven wrong for sure, but Dave Matthews first two albums are still their best by far!

You know how sometimes you dissociate when listening to certain songs? My dad made a compilation of 90's songs, and Ants Marching was one of the songs on it. I would listen to all of the songs in the car, holding on to every lyric...except this one. I didn't even know what it was about.
Then one day, I was eating in a restaurant when this song came on the speakers (you know how restaurants, and many other public facilities, play music in the background on speakers). And I was like, "This is one of the songs on Dad's 90's CD! But I forget which one..." Then I realized it was Ants Marching--the one song on the CD that, fittingly for the theme of the song, I never paid attention to. I started paying attention to it a lot more after that.
Fast forward a couple years, and my dad would give me his copy of Under the Table and Dreaming, along with many other of his CDs, when I was going through one of the hardest moments in my life. I listened to this song. I listened to it intently. I held on to every lyric (it helped that I read the lyric book) and finally made sense of what the song meant.
And this song helped me through one of the hardest times in my life.

This is one damned good song. And even that is an understatement. I was waiting tables in Cleveland Ohio when this CD was released. Being alive and knowing talent when I hear it is what brought me here. Then had the pleasure of meeting Matthews when he was shopping at Banana Republic before a show. He couldn't have been any nicer or humble. I wish he and the band many more years if success.

This song reminds me of the lame little town I am from but I love it all the same
Wanna hear a true story? First time I heard a piece of this song, almost 20 years ago, it was on tv. I only saw a small piece of the video and heard a small piece of the song and I was IN LOVE from that moment. The thing is, living in Cuba at the time, meant no internet so I couldn't find the song and the artist anywhere, but it stayed on my mind. One day, listening to some music at some friend's place, I heard it again... and it began my whole trip with this incredible band. My friend only had one side of a "cassette tape" so I listened to that mix tape like a hundred times a day, until I got my first CD from DMB. And I managed to get almost 30 cds by the time I left Cuba. Of course I still have them. Saw DMB twice in my life and it was the greatest thing that has ever happened to me, along with the birth of my two boys who (I hope) will also listen to Dave Matthews Band when the time will come
