I listed the real GDP per capita, but I forgot to list the percentage change from the previous year. In the second quarter of 2024, the real GDP increased at a 3% annual rate. The growth rate for real GDP per capita for 2023 was just over 2%. However...again...please keep in mind that if the real GDP per capita for the 3rd quarter goes down, or even goes up lower than 2%, Harris might be in trouble.

I don't think you will be right - and I can say that I really don't like either candidate, and was really hoping for a third party candidate. I don't believe in voting for the lesser of two evils.

@@wheelmanstan yeah it's clear he has no training in science or math lol. Polling averages can be wrong (and were in 2016 and 2020), but this has to do with methodological issues, not margin of error.
@@MFMegaZeroX7 The polls I've seen have a margin of error up to 4.5..which is insane, but I'm interested in if they're polling the right ratio of men and women. I hear the ratio of voters is something like 52 or 53 women to 47 or 48 men and I've seen that in polls, but I wonder how accurate that is. I mean clearly Harris has the female vote and if I wanted her to look good I'd poll more women. And of course there's the swing states and the fact that popular votes don't matter. I don't really care much for polls, but trends are interesting, bumps after conventions and debates and social media bumps in followers as well are interesting.
I think Hillary was around 4 points ahead of Trump and Biden around 8, she lost by 78k or so and Biden won by just 44k. Harris seems to be behind where they both were in their campaigns on this day in 2020 and 2016. That could say something. IMO if Trump is ever ahead or tied in the polls then he's clearly winning. Harris needs a lead to win because they sure as hell did. A 2 point lead means nothing, even a 4 point lead means nothing to me. The 2004 election and 2020 elections were both pretty nuts. People came out in droves. Check these numbers out, this is the turnout increase in 4 of the 5 states Biden won and who got them. Seems like a pattern:
MI 905,510 Increase, Trump 370,309 / Biden 535,201
AZ 920,261 Increase, Trump 409,285 / Biden 510,976
PA 938,729 Increase, Trump 406,941 / Biden 531,788
GA 968,420 Increase, Trump 384,529 / Biden 595,670
The average increase in those states was around 933k with Trump getting 393k and Biden getting 543k. Anyway..who knows what's in store. Biden gained a lot of male votes and I think Harris will be losing them, even though she'll be gaining female votes. Trump will improve upon his previous turnout and continue increasing his female and minority support and Harris will have to not only hold that Biden level of support but improve upon it. I don't have 13 fancy steps or anything though, so maybe I'm wrong. haha

I was looking at a poll asking men & women their opinions on candidates as well as their vote in the crucial swing states of MI, PA, and WI, and their methodology lines up exactly with what you had to say. 931 "Likely General Election Voters", 53% Women and 47% Men w/ a MOE of 3.21%.
I personally think, as someone who is center-right, but keeps personal opinions out of my own analysis, that anything could really happen. It's too close for me to guess who will win, although I don't have an analysis system as Mr. Beat or Professor Lichtman.
I do agree with you when it comes to Trump's turnout, he will rack in his normal supporters but I find will somewhat struggle to get the fence sitters, especially in crucial swing states. Harris has a lot to pick up from Biden but has already done such a phenomenal job picking up pieces.
Opinion: Everything is within MOE, anything can happen, just have to wait til' election night to see turnout.
(I'm Canadian, not deeply invested in American politics as much as I am with Canadian, but this is what I see)
@@wheelmanstan Hilary was 3 points ahead so Kamala is a bit better at this point. Although the weird thing is more about the slope of the graph, at this point Hillary's support was narrowing but Harris' seems to be around the same.
I think the polls are more stable representing people voting preferences being solidified. If the poll average stays around the same value I predict a narrow victory for blue. But yeah we don't have fancy systems so we just guessing lol

Unfortunately due to the US's superpower status we force people to care about our shitty elections so it's probably a good idea to at least pay a little attention to the US presidential elections. Especially since the executive branch has the most power when it comes to foreign policy.

Yup, his keys are objective, judgemental and infallible. He was correct about 2000, Gore should have won Florida, but the GOP suppresses the vote in Florida. They threw out tens of thousands of ballots from black voters who voted for Gore.

The economy is robust. Just because you are listening to Trump doesn't change anything. Unemployment is very low, wages are rising, and inflation is definitely coming down. America is on the right path. The debate was the final nail in the coffin for Trump.

If you look at the Biden presidency as a whole, he has had the highest inflation numbers in the last 40 years. Since it’s only the rate of inflation going down, you won’t notice any difference in prices at the store or anywhere else.

It’s really sad on how divided the American people are. I’ve spent a lot of time listening to what the Democrats are saying and what the Republicans are saying. Both parties are saying and claiming the same things about each other. I blame the media for most of this. People are choosing candidates based on race etc instead of policy . I think the media should not be allowed to tell the outright lies they are telling on both sides.
These two guys here are bias . They hate Trump. A lot of people are voting for Harris because she is a black woman . People are voting for Harris because they hate Trump. They don’t care how many people are suffering because of the economy, They don’t care about the Illugals and border problems. They hate Trump because the Media and the people who run the News channels do nothing but lie about him and call him a communist. Unfortunately people do not do their own research.
I love and watch both of these guys and seeing the juxtaposition of their styles and ideas was priceless. Mr. Beat has never seemed so wonderfully Midwest as he did here. The Keys take some understanding, and many more viewers got that through this video, I hope.
I actually didn't and feel like I know the keys *less* now. I'd like to know more about how he arrives at his conclusions about each key. They may be based on historical info, but he didn't really go at all deep into *what* historical info he's using.

Well number one you shouldn't have to be taught how to do taxes. Unless you are self-employed the federal government already knows what taxes you owe because your employer handles all of your taxes for you. The only reason we have to file tax returns every year is because the tax prep industry has lobbied for it to be that way.
The US seems to be the only place that I'm aware of where people have to do their own taxes. Where I live everything is already taxed so it's nothing really to worry about if you don't own a business or whatever.

Allan is explicitly lying at 20:00. The chapter of his book about recessions literally says perception counts. If 50% of the US population perceives the economy as being in recession, is it really wise to assume we aren’t just because it doesn’t reach the definition of the fat suits?

As a democrat I hope he’s right. My only problem is the keys seem subjective and not objective
Hmm the main issue I have with this system is that it’s too binary. If Biden was still the nominee, would any of these keys flip? Based on how he defines them, the answer is no. Biden would also have the same 9-4 key advantage over Trump based on his definitions. Which to me is a little dubious bc most people saw Biden as totally hopeless. Yet his model surely would’ve predicted Biden to win. There’s something missing here. Some of these factors are more of a spectrum rather than a flat “true” or “false”.
Allan doesn't like to get into hypotheticals. He doesn't like to talk about IFs. He just looks at that data. That being said, when Biden was still running, he was leaning to win...but we ultimately don't know because he's not running anymore.
The system assumes the final candidate has been selected. Using Biden as a hypothetical is the same as using me or you as a hypothetical candidate.
It is binary not based on the candidates but based on their achievements. This is why the Keys system has worked for so long, its not about who you are and what you do, its based on what has been.
the system doesn't account to age of the candidate. Unfortunately oe fortunately we will not know whether Biden will win if he still ran. But it is really about the party in power that counts.
It’s been right since the ‘84 election, you can go back in time to pre-‘84 elections and apply the keys to the circumstances of the time and it’ll correctly tell you who won the White House, and the only election in which it technically failed was in ‘00 when SCOTUS interrupted the vote counting in FL and went ahead and handed the election to Bush. Given its track record, I think it’s safe to say your criticisms are only relevant insomuch that they give Lichtman yet another chance to explain his system and roundly refute your criticisms before proceeding to kindly explain how wrong you are.
If there's "judgement" involved in the forecasting, by definition it is subjective. The best case scenario is in ensuring that the "judgmental indicators" are evaluated dispassionately in the forecasting process.

Mr.Beat system accounts inflation \. Inflation is at 2.5%. Trump inflation rate was 1.4% we he left office and pretty much the same throughout his term. His unemployment number was 5.4% when he left office. the misery index went upfrom the prevoius year. Biden was 4.1%. misery index 6.7%. Down from last year 7.7%
Perhaps to preserve democracy. I would say that's a pretty good reason. There are other reasons but I'd say that's the best one

Thank you for this interesting, professional explanation and lively discussion of your two systems which I will link for my students. Great material. Forget about the haters. Truth will win. Mr. Beat has a great way of explaining things that is pretty impartial and very patient, like he's dealing with a class of teenagers, and has respect for all of them. He is great to watch, and is a genuinely nice guy.
