You forgot Obama's biggest mistake which was not prosecuting the bankers and financial people responsible for the crash of 2008 and bailing them out with GW Bush. The lack of oversight created the Tea Party which in turn manifested in Donald Trump and the division we see today!
Mr. Beat: You should have spent more time talking about how horrible Don the Con Trump was. Twice impeached Trump was the worst US president in history for many reasons. #1) Trump committed an act of treason/sedition against the US by inciting a violent insurrection on January 6, 2021. #2) Trump’s incompetence regarding his management of the US response to the Covid-19 pandemic between January 2020 and July of 2020. Thousands of US citizens died as a result Trump’s failure. If Trump had a proper immediate response to the pandemic the way that the South Korean government did, then thousands of US citizens who died would still be alive today. #3) In April of 2019 Trump vetoed the resolution to end US military support of Saudi Arabia's GENOCIDE of thousands of innocent civilians in Yemen! Trump was using the US military to support GENOCIDE in Yemen! #4) Trump violated the Emoluments Clause of the US Constitution for his entire 4 years in office, then in 2019 Trump verbally mocked the US Constitution. The foundation of the USA is the US Constitution, that is why the presidential inaugural oath includes to swear to protect and defend the US Constitution. In January 2017 Trump publicly swore an oath on a bible at his inauguration ceremony to protect and defend the US Constitution. In 2019 Trump mocked the US Constitution by publicly saying the words "phony emoluments clause". #5) Trump misogynistically and adulterously said of women: "Grab them by the pussy."! Trump committed adultery with Stormy Daniels and then tried to cover it up. Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, was in prison for crimes related to Trump's cover-up of his adulterous scandal with Stormy Daniels. Most Republicans claim to be the moral party and/or the majority Christian party, but hypocritically enthusiastically want to give an adulterous Donald Trump, another 4 years in office. If a US president who was a member of the Democratic Party did the terrible things Trump has, of course, the Republican Party leaders would be screaming for his removal from office. #6) Trump committed the crime of obstruction of justice. #7) Trump committed crimes of trying to tamper with elections, especially in Georgia. #8) Trump's attempted abuse of power regarding Ukraine. #9) Trump committed tax fraud in New York State, which why Trump hid his tax returns for years. #10) Trump practiced corrupt nepotism as he appointed unqualified members of his family into positions of power in the executive branch of government. #11) Trump illegally destroyed documents and illegally took documents with him after he left the office of president. There are many other horrible things about Trump. Here are some of them: Donald Trump is a dumb corrupt businessman which is why he hid his tax returns. Donald Trump is not a self-made man, he benefited from nepotism. His daddy Fred Trump gave him millions of dollars to start businesses many of which have failed! Donald Trump's failed businesses are many but include: Trump Airlines, a Trump Casino, and Trump University. With his failed Trump University, he defrauded hundreds of students. In Trump's many construction projects he failed to pay some of his contractors. Trump committed fraud with his non-profit in New York State which is why Trump recently transferred his residence to Florida. Donald Trump is too stupid to write his own book which why he hired a ghost writer to write "The Art of the Deal". When Trump was in high school, he hired another boy to take his SAT college entrance exam. Trump claims that he is smart, but he refuses to show us his college transcripts. Donald Trump's daddy bribed a physician to write that Donald Trump had bone spurs and therefore could dodge the Vietnam War draft. Donald Trump and his dad also practiced racism in who they would rent properties to in the 1960s and 1970s. That is just scratching the surface of the long list of horrible things about Donald Trump.
Obamas biggest mistake is allowing china to take over the south china sea. this set up the battleground for ww3 which the US may now lose because of obama
Interesting video. I may be wrong and you probably have more years teaching than I. But as I understand it, William Henry Harrison gave the longest inaugural speech in history in the pouring rain, thus dying from pneumonia not from drinking DC water. I thought Taylor died from cholera from drinking milk on a hot 4th of July day. Perhaps my teachers back in the day, taught me wrong info.
On that point, the secret service greatest mistake is not having agents stationed in buildings along the route. If a few had been in the book depository, they could’ve caught Oswald before he started shooting
I greatly appreciate that these mistakes are ranked by how much harm to how many people they caused, instead of how much personal political damage they caused.

I feel like a lot of the early slave holding presidents were like... "We need to end the scourge of slavery... Not me though. I'm busy. Someone will probably do it sooner or later though"
So true. The first half of the 19th century was presidents being too scared to tackle the horror that was slavery until it got to a breaking point of the civil war.
A lot of abolitionists at the time thought that slavery would just die out naturally if they restricted it. They might have been right if the resulting policies didn't cause tensions that blew up into a civil war. Also the cotton gin happened.
It’s crazy how a lot of these same laws and issues are constantly repeating themselves in different eras. Just goes to show how much we haven’t learned when it comes to our mistakes.
I believe those errors were a building of a foundation of rottenness, which under puppet Biden is becoming a full bldg into which the new oligarchy are quietly occupying - Herr Klaus Schwab, his Davos Wehrmacht and multi-billionaires, this is what Elon Musk is trying to expose, but MUST be circumspect.
I believe king Solomon said "there is nothing new under the sun." Also a great look at why we cannot move past our mistakes from the past without teaching about them in great depth. We put people in concentration camps because they sorta kinda looked like people who attacked one of our territories that we shouldn't have been in anyway. Not to mention all the coups we've staged, then the coups to take out the dictators we put in place etc. You get the point lol
Money has a lot to do with it, as always.. But just as big a cause is that we don't teach factual history. If you don't learn from your or others' mistakes, you'll be likely to repeat them. Whitewashing history, banning books, omitting massive chunks, to deliberately create a demographic that won't know they're supporting a neo-Hitler until it's too late.. And those of us that DO know what's happening won't have enough numbers or power to do anything about it because we've allowed the militarization of the police .. Police controlled by the wealthy and politicians who are, by definition, the enemy in such circumstances.
Thank you for acknowledging the Philippine-American war, Mr. Beat. As a Filipino on the way to becoming an American, I find that not many Americans are familiar of this. @@Secarstra777 Ah, yes. Many people are not familiar of this either. I would go as far to saying that the Americans are the only colonialists that Filipinos are generally enamoured with as we don't really feel this way towards Britain or Spain. Just to add a little note, the reason why the Japanese Imperial Army invaded the Philippines shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in WW2 is that the Philippines is a strategic stronghold of the Americans in South East Asia, as the Americans have built bases in the Philippines used during WW2 and Korean and Vietnam wars. And, of course, a major refueling station as well. In fact, the most considerable largest naval battle of all time happened during WW2 in the Philippines called the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

You're entitled to your opinion, and I was familiar with James W Louwen criticising him earlier, but either actively or not attempting, I can't see any earlier presidents as being much worse or better.

It's rather hilarious how Harrison's greatest mistake, drinking a cup of water, meant that he could be, arguably, one of the least destructive US presidents. You know, 'cause he was only in the White House for 1 month.

@@MistyKathrineIf you really want to be a pessimist since I refuse to believe presidencies of people like Lincoln were “bad” in the sense they were net negatives for the nation. Keeping the country together gets you into positives no matter what you do after it.

The more I thought about your take on Nixon's biggest mistake, the more I found myself agreeing. The War on Drugs has had a much longer impact, whereas Watergate is mostly known as a scandal at it's time and sort of stayed in the past. It has significant historical meaning, no doubt.
Watergate may have stayed in the past in the sense that people may not think about it all the time but I think it still had huge lasting impact on American’s trust of their own government.
Hell, the Nixon one is why Reaganomics isn't the worst part of Reagan's administration. Greatly increasing privatized prisons was. It's also why that godawful Clinton-era crime bill got passed.
I would argue the Cambodian bombing was worse. Not only did it drag another country into the Vietnam war, killing innocent civilians. But it also lead to the rise of the Khmer Rouge, which enacted the Cambodian genocide killing 20% of the population of Cambodia. That seems much worse to me than a bunch of people being thrown in prison. (Although the war on drugs was extremely bad).

American history and history in general for that matter has always intrigued me, but learning the dark side of American history is truly fascinating, because you expect some bad things but once you dive in the US has done some truly reprehensible actions.
I think the doctrinal nature of required American history classes in the US, public school grades 5, 8, and 11, are part of what has always driven me to learn about the many dark secrets that were withheld.
My father was a victim of the war on drugs. He died in prison and robbed me of my dad at the age of 11. He was just locked away, when he needed help, and left to die.
I think the 2 biggest mistakes by any given U.S. president are (and this is just in general): 1. Not learning from the past mistakes made by world leaders in history 2. Not putting the best interest of the American people 1st, but rather prioritizing their own self interests, their party's agendas, and most of all the interests of lobbyists and special interest groups
@@yoyosummers4270 the victims of slavery were the people who's interest should've been accounted for, so not supporting them was going against the American people
The problem with your second suggestion, is thinking that the "American people" is a single entity where they have a "best interest". Any action taken by a president will affect some Americans in a positive way and others in a negative way

100% His attitude toward it was definitely part of what contributed to many conservatives thinking that gay men were getting what they deserved for being gay. And it was even worse when he only started to care at all when Rock Hudson revealed he also had HIV.
I haven't watched the video yet, but defanging antitrust and allowing all sorts of corrupt monopolistic mergers, setting that precedent was very easily Reagan's worst move. It's not even close. It has a massive effect on every American to this day and will for very long time. It's arguably almost as bad as Clinton and glass-steagall. And to be quite clear Clinton is the worst president of the last handful. Or more. Easily. And that includes young bush and the current traitorous clown. That's how bad killing glass-steagall was. It very directly precipitated the 2008 Great recession, and it has ongoing horrific effects. Reagan's AIDS response was pretty bad, but it was sort of a trump level covid bad. In a different way though. I think Trump was actually trying to do the right thing he just failed hard trusting fauci and Pfizer & the WHO. He had a lot of company though, everyone but Sweden drastically mismanaged the crisis. Aside from Trump's continuous spew of clinical narcissism, he really wasn't that bad a president for the most part. He didn't make a lot of mistakes besides allowing lockdowns and pushing the Pfizer poison. My theory of presidents these days is that their adequacy or inadequacy is mostly determined by what they don't do. By mistakes they don't make. Biden got in the office and immediately made 10 horrific errors. Errors or purposeful evils I'm not quite sure which. Trump mostly stayed out the economy and energy's way. You can't really expect too much more from a president these days. Sad but true.

Obama's biggest mistake was to leave his presidency with records left behind that proved he was apprised of the Russian collusion hoax perpetrated by Hillary Clinton on August 3, 2016. He could have saved himself of being found complicit in the crime if only he would have informed the public of it being a hoax and took steps to insure the FBI would not run with it, but he didn't. Here's another fun fact: they polled zoomers, and like 77% of them thought that Indians lived in peace and harmony with the land before the white man got here. God I'm laughing so hard I can't even voice text dictate. Even now it's like the third time I've talked about it. The average native American tribe practiced a casual sort of genocide on its neighbors and was extremely enthusiastic about taking slaves. There were exceptions but they were definitely a minority. Casual genocide & slavetaking had I rather serious enhancing effect on that. More dumb fun with baizuos.
Well when it comes to the first seven Presidents or so, they actually made slavery much harder, like banning it in the Northwest territory, banning the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, etc. But they never went so far as to outright ban it because they thought it would go away on it's own, and banning it outright would just cause unnecessary bloodshed. Obviously they were wrong, and slavery ended up actually becoming bigger in the future, but they had good intentions. Some of them were hypocrites though, owning their own slaves despite being against slavery.
It was about the culture at the time, the leaders were trying to delay a civil war which was bound to happen at some point. No president could magically erase the practice of slavery.
Thank you for mentioning the war on drugs, that has been possibly one of the most detrimental mistakes in terms of cost and impact imo. The amount of misinformation that has been spread about drugs and drug use because of it has been insane, and I'd say it has set us back decades in mental health research and policy.

I think a lot of presidents' biggest mistakes were things that took so long to see the consequences of that someone else got the blame, especially if it had to do with foreign policy or something else boring that most voters don't pay attention to.
Yes, some people still think that Reagan was a great president who really helped the economy, when in retrospect his administration did so much to hurt so many people. We had to wait to realize that the trickle down was miniscule. We'll have to wait to see all the good results from the Biden administration, but some people just don't understand the concept of time, and the ship of state doesn't turn on a dime.
Yeah that definitely adds up. Wasn’t the bay of pigs invasion basically entirely planned before Kennedy was elected, and the major decision he mad towards it was actually to decrease direct involvement with it?
I come from a Panamanian family and Manuel Noriega was a monster. My older relatives remembered the horror of martial law and were more than happy to be rid of him. I wouldn't classify "Operation Just Cause" as a mistake at all. It's one of the few things that the US did that actually helped Latin America.
I agree! I evn remember at the time how some Liberals were even proud of what the country had done, it really did deserve the name "Just Cause" -- a wonderful yet extremely rare example of our armed forces being used to restore the democratically elected legitimate ruler to the people -- instead of deposing the legitimate rule like we did in so many other countries!
I hate us interventionism with passion, 99% of the time is immoral imperialism to bully countries and peoples for their one-sided economic and political unjust gains, but getting rid of Noriega is the exception that makes the rule. Two very important things should be added though: 1) When it comes to bringing Ortega's dictatorship to the edge, credit and glory must be given to Hugo Spadafora. Indeed, the military invasion only happened right after he was assassinated. A one-in-a-trillion history changing hero. 2) The US has a lot to blame for Noriega's dictatorship to have ever been in place in the first place. It is no secret that pretty much all dictatorships in Latin America and the Caribbean were either put there or strongly supported by the US, especially after what happened in Cuba and later Nicaragua. Same applies in Panama. They propped up Noriega and have blood in their hands. It is a good thing Just Cause happened but the decades if horror could instead have been avoided.
He was a monster and we (the US) put him in charge. This is so common that one could argue putting the very worst dictators in charge of nice places (especially those countries in "our hemisphere") is our government's main hobby.
I mean, as people have said before, operation just cause was not a mistake, but all the movements done by the US that helped him get into power were surely a mistake
*These historical mistakes truly show the enormous weight of being the head of the US government. Every action is written down. Great analysis Mr Beat!*
I really enjoyed this video but I have to say that Ronald Reagan's biggest mistake was not retaliating against Iran in 1983 when Iran supported financed the suicide attack on the Marines on October 24th 1983 that led to the death of 241 Marines. A little shadowy group known as Islamic jihad or later on will be changed to Hezbollah Funded by Iran would never be punished. That was one incident that led to Osama bin Laden later saying America was a paper tiger
I remember growing up as a kid and how the idea of wanting to be the president was fun. As an adult, I realize now how you must prepare for the inevitable, where you figuratively have blood on your hands or impact the lives of so many human beings.
it seems the president only seems to exist as a PR scapegoat for the rest of the deep state to hide behind while not really having that much say in how things are run.
He may miss some stuff, and the humor is a bit corny - but I can truly appreciate the objective approach he has with these videos - especially in such a polarized, partisan time/status quo that we live in
Hes Def not Objective 100% of the time, when it comes to modern politics his bias torwards the left comes through more and more. Im sure as we gain distance he will become more objective on current issues in the future
@cirrus1682 exactly what I was going to say, there were so many mistakes that were just immigration reform acts and he made it seem like that is the most evil thing in the world.
I would have also talked about the aids crisis with Reagan. While Reaganomics certainly impacted more people overall, I feel like the aids crisis was bad enough to have been a dishonorable mention
Good point, but trickle down economics was and still is terrible!!! He should have used this word to describe it, but he did not. The Republican party is still hung up on this. They still want to give tax cuts to the rich ad nauseum!!!
There are so many truly awful things to choose from that picking just one as The Worst is really impossible. Shredding The Constitution, especially the 4th amendment, to rationalize creating the domestic police state is another strong candidate for The Worst. Mr. Beat also gave Bush 41 a pass on his many crimes.
In my opinion, you have to give a President 20 years after his term is over to truly assess it. What might seem like a mistake by W. Bush, Obama, or Trump might not seem a big deal compared to another mistake made.
George bush and Obama were funded by crime syndicates. Trump is corrupt but please do some research he is not what the media says he is. The media has ruined a great opportunity of coming together over a very middle of the ground president.
@@throatwobblermangrove8510 A great example is Truman. Today many historians consider him a better President than he was thought of while he was living (died around 1971 or so). I’m so/so on his legacy myself. While I think he made the correct decision in ending World War II quickly, some of his Cold War policies led to the Korean War and Vietnam War.
Major props for calling out Nixon on the “war” on drugs. I didn’t expect that. It is one of the biggest wastes of human lives and money in American history. The moralism over drug use is hardcore hypocrisy and has no place in our legal system.
Nixons biggest mistake is making friends with a pedopphile who likes 14 year old girls as a 68 year old man who was responsible of 50-60 million people deaths and helping the korean and vietnam wars sacrificing military soldiers unnecessarily. Mao is the worst dictator in human recorded history.
Although Nixon is seen as a centrist, the culture wars he started helped Reagan and Gingrich build today's pseudo-conservative "Own the libs" Republican machine . . . all as a result of one man's obsession with the presidency 😭
a "war on drugs" isn't exactly bad and is good when done right. The problem with Nixon's war is that he basically targeted drugs that weren't really all that bad. If he concentrated more on the real dangerous ones like cocaine, heroin and the other super shhtty ones and then make weed and shrooms as "controlled" products meaning they're legal but just controlled properly and only be sold by real professionals like doctors then it would have been all right
@@dickmelsonlupot7697 The war on drugs was and is primarily waged against users. Locking people up, that is punishing people, for using drugs is fundamentally ridiculous, counterproductive, and cruel. Drug use is not a moral or criminal failing, it is a mental health issue. Our “criminal justice” system is rooted in centuries-old English law which is wholly unequipped to ethically or effectively deal with drugs or any other “antisocial” behavior rooted in mental health or poverty. In 500 years, the criminal justice system of today will be looked at as little more sensible than the trials by ordeal of the Middle Ages.
Xenophobia isn't a fear of the Chinese specifically. It's fear of people who are different. For example, a lot of xenophobics get really on edge by people in their community on the autism spectrum, even though they otherwise qualify for being part of the community that the xenophobic trusts.
I am not too certain if the country really would have been better off had Washington made a show of manumission and opposition to slavery. While on one hand he was a unifying figure and there certainly was a lot of fondness for him among slaveholders, opposition to slavery could also have torn the country apart at a moment of weakness.

I like how you put in the "Philippine American War" as Mckinley's greatest mistake. As a Filipino High Schooler in Grade 7 in the Philippines, I learned about the Philippine American War in our Grade 6 Araling Panlipunan Class (It's our social studies/history subject) so for you to put it in the video made me feel more nationalism in me as a Filipino. Clinton has also apologized for signing the Defense of Marriage Act, the anti-gay marriage bill, which it doesn't seem like he ever believed in and did simply to signal to voters he was "moderate" on social issues.
I didn't know this! And thanks for bringing that horrible law up, too, J.J. That should have been another honorable mention. Dang, Clinton really signed some bad laws. lol
@@iammrbeatyeah, Clinton really did, but I don’t think he ever did it because he wanted to, but to appeal to republicans since they took over congress. Kind of like Obama during his later years of presidency. Both had to keep the country moving I suppose.
@@nprnilk Clinton played politics very cynically at times. If he thought he could get benefit by throwing some group under the bus he would. If he thought he could get benefit by promoting the interests of that group, he would. Clinton appointed several openly gay people to his administration, which was historic, but then also pandered to homophobia when that was the way the winds were blowing.
If I remember correctly, he signed it in order to shut down the ravening of Congressional bigots for as long as he could, because they insisted on having something and what they really wanted would have been worse. Same reason why he signed Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
@@JJMcCullough Politics are very cynical. He was a pure political animal once the congress switched in 94 to Gingrich he had to play 3 dimensional chess. Do you have any idea the scope and magnitude of what was hunting for him every day? First it was travel gate, then whitewater for 7 years - Trump says witchhunt - he had nothing like Clinton and let's be clear in Trumps case there is criminal activity, obstruction at almost every turn.
I wanna just say kudos to you, you weren't afraid to tell it like it is and criticize EVERY president regardless which party they were from. Well he was wrong about the central bank stuff 07:51. While it is true that most economists agree that central bank prevent market crashes, the same economists are also on the government dole. Basically they are paid to cheer the central bank and the United States Federal reyhas thousands of economists on their payroll as consultants. Now why would they risk fame and fortune when it is lucrative to lie in favor of the central bank?
@@maxi1ification True, but it is well known that government economists are basically cheer leaders for the ruling party. They don't see a recession until they are a year into it.
@@holdmybeer123 Similarly, people staunchly against central banks manage to have their own financial incentives to denounce such an institution. It's really hard to get objective assessments of things like that, sadly.
Regarding Vietnam, I’ve read that distrust in government started heavily at this point and has never been right since then. I didn’t realize until a few years ago how damaging Vietnam was for the US in terms of trust in government and what not.
It made your closest friends and allies cringe at being a NATO partner, trade partner..etc. The Good 1st world does not have the resources to stop America's once in every generation .. war on some 3rd world people with just awful optics.. optics of real atrocities. We friends want to think of the USA as anti-atrocity. Abu Ghraib huh? PM Blair ... the disgrace of the Labour Party. When America builds a coalition to take on a foreign power, check who signs on in each case. Canada fought in Korea... NOT Vietnam. Allies supported a war on Bin Laden.. where journalists on the ground outnumbered the troops assaulting his "lair". Friends supported the war on Iraq when Saddem made a sovereign UN state disappear. They did not show up for Round two, the revenge tour.
A mix of things actually. The assassination of JFK, Nam, Watergate and the rampant ascension of power of the CIA made that americans felt watched all the time, and as the government distrusted its population, the population started to resent and distrust the government. Who would've thought that spying on everyone would get everyone mad at you?
@@IbrahimButTwice nah... its got to be the border crisis. unfortunately, partisanship prevents democrats and republicans from doing what the other side wants, even if it's clearly the right option, just out of fear of upsetting their bosses
I strongly and respectfully disagree with the one about Bill Clinton. His repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act was one of the worst policy decisions in our country's history. It made possible the 2008 financial crisis (which, yes, is still ongoing and affecting us to this day) by allowing commercial banks to speculate. Otherwise, great video! 🙂 I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for calling Roosevelt’s concentration camps, concentration camps. One thing of note is that some of the men that were recruited in these concentration camps to fight in World War II were some of the most decorated soldiers of World War II, and as a unit I think nobody came close to them in valor.
I disagree. Not that the camps weren't a terrible decision, but holy shit y'all underestimate how horrid concentration camps are. Things designed to slowly kill the inhabitants after extracting all the labor possible. Compared, Japanese internment camps were while still bad, not nearly close to German concentration camls
@@chrischeng9145 I agree that the nazi concentration camps were horrific and beyond comprehension for the misery that they caused. To compare one evil to another is extremely difficult. Some people refer to the Nazi concentration camps as death camps which they were and Roosevelt’s camps were not death camps but they were places where people that the government wanted to concentrate people. I know people who were related to the people who were in those camps and served with distinction and valor in World War II. I believe we must acknowledge the past mistakes if we are ever to learn how to create a truly great country. Roosevelt did many great things and he did some very bad things most presidents fall into that category. We must learn from our mistakes and some mistakes. Hopefully we will never make again.
My college thesis was, "Japanese American Atitudes towards their Interment". My professor was stunned that none of his students ever wrote on that. I remember my high school history teacher explained how wrong the intermnet was but in retrospect how many Japanese-American lives were saved [from murder] as the American body-count rose in the Pacific. He did not say "murder" but we all understood what he meant.
In defense of Carter, I believe he did all he could do at that time. To quote Edward Grey, who wrote a book about US Presidents, “Although he has been heavily criticized for his handling of the crisis, few were prepared to say what they would have done in his place.”
@@jabrokneetoeknee6448 I believe that was also cited as one of the causes for the airline chaos earlier this year but whatever source I got that from could be wrong.
@@wildfire9280 Indirectly, yes. The airline industry has substantially changed its business model since the deregulation act. During the "Golden Era of Flight" airlines made most of their revenue from the selling of seats... something which sounds like a given. But that drove up the prices for seats on high-demand flights. Oftentimes a passenger would find themselves paying more on a short NYC to DC flight compared to a much longer NYC to Austin flight. Airlines didn't like this model because it meant that long routes were often less profitable. Today, much of airline revenues come from contracts with big banks, credit card companies, car rental companies, Fortune 500 corporations, who pay the airline for the right to issue "rewards" like miles to their customers or employees. Airlines prefer this model, of course, because it guarantees a steady stream of revenue regardless how many actual seats are being sold per flight. The consequence of this is that air travel, a pretty essential service in the 21st century, has been turned into a liability for airlines. They will cut costs on flights anyway imaginable... even if it means selling fewer seats. The airline industry's reaction to the pandemic typified this, when instead of using COVID stimulus money to keep pilots on the payroll through the lockdowns, like the government expected them to do, the airlines instead persuaded many pilots to retire early with very generous packages, and used the rest of the money on executive bonuses, dividends, and stock buy-backs. Now demand has returned to pre-pandemic levels but now the airlines are understaffed!
For personal Christian reasons Jimmy allowed the sick Shah entry for treatment to the US when Iranians demanded he be sent back to them for trial. THAT was his biggest mistake. The Shah was going to die soon regardless and he deserved to be on trial anyway. Not getting their trial caused the 'not US hating anti-Shah' Iranians to turn into radical, US hating Jihadists.

@@eugenepiurkowski5439 I really hate this talking point of "you can't judge history by modern standards" when you very well can. Slavery has existed since the start of civilization, and still lasts to today. We've known it's one of the worst things you can inflict upon another individual for millennia. If slavery wasn't that bad to historical figures, *why* did they have to kidnap Africans and bring them across the Atlantic, just causing more trouble for themselves in the process? There are plenty of records of white American elites being abolitionists in the 18th, even the 17th, century. And just look at Phillis Wheatley and her contemporaries, for example. She was incredibly outspoken about her experience as an enslaved woman in the colonies, and she faced constant harassment from whites who refused her talent and humanity, because they didn't want to acknowledge that she is just like them. They felt guilt.
@eugenepiurkowski5439 You say this as if there were no abolitionists in Washington's time. Airbags were not invented yet, but abolitionism was well-known to educated people back then.

What mistakes did I make with this video?

Police controlled by the wealthy and politicians who are, by definition, the enemy in such circumstances.
it all just comes down to "i dont like this group of people. I'm going to ruin their lives"

Thank you for acknowledging the Philippine-American war, Mr. Beat. As a Filipino on the way to becoming an American, I find that not many Americans are familiar of this. Actually, not many Americans are not familiar of the Filipino involvement of fighting with the Americans in WW2 either and the WW2 aide by the Americans sort of washed over the atrocities of the Philippine-American war.
Really refreshing to hear a history UA-camr talk about this.

@@Secarstra777 Ah, yes. Many people are not familiar of this either. This is probably the reason why the Philippines has a specific liking to the United States and at one time pushed to be a US territory because of our fondness for the Americans during the American occupation and post-WW2.

It's rather hilarious how Harrison's greatest mistake, drinking a cup of water, meant that he could be, arguably, one of the least destructive US presidents. You know, 'cause he was only in the White House for 1 month.
If you're a pessimist, Harrison was the least worst president since he had the fewest failures and scandals. If you're an optimist, he was the worst president since he had the fewest accomplishments.
@@MistyKathrineIf you really want to be a pessimist since I refuse to believe presidencies of people like Lincoln were “bad” in the sense they were net negatives for the nation. Keeping the country together gets you into positives no matter what you do after it.

@@MistyKathrine he shouldn't be included in the lists at all. He was only in office for one month and most of it he was bed bound. The more I thought about your take on Nixon's biggest mistake, the more I found myself agreeing. The War on Drugs has had a much longer impact, whereas Watergate is mostly known as a scandal at it's time and sort of stayed in the past. It has significant historical meaning, no doubt.

Twice impeached Trump was the worst US president in history for many reasons.
#1) Trump committed an act of treason against the US by inciting a violent insurrection on January 6, 2021.
I wonder which one the most people skipped to 😂

100%
His attitude toward it was definitely part of what contributed to many conservatives thinking that gay men were getting what they deserved for being gay.
Sad but true.
thats kinda simple for people to solve themselves
It was extremely not simple back then@@cardboard9124 . It was an apocalypse for some demographics (promiscuous gay males for the most part, also many africans.)
What exactly could Ronald Reagan have done? Imprison every suspected homosexual in the country and prevent them from having sex? When Reagan was in office the majority opinion was that it was a 'gay disease'
Biggest mistakes for presidents:
William H Harrison: "Beautiful day, i dont need a coat"
Lincoln: "Lets go see a play"
Garfield: "Lets take a train"
McKinley: "Lets go to the fair"
Kennedy: "Lets go for a ride. I need to clear my head"
That last one was hilarious.
"What are you in here for?"
"I sung a song"

Obama's biggest mistake was to leave his presidency with records left behind that proved he was apprised of the Russian collusion hoax perpetrated by Hillary Clinton on August 3, 2016. He could have saved himself of being found complicit in the crime if only he would have informed the public of it being a hoax and took steps to insure the FBI would not run with it, but he didn't.

Really fair point! I tend to overestimate his influence.
@@iammrbeat I do kinda wonder if Washington had been more vocal about slavery how much of an effect it would have. You said that he warned against political parties citing it would divide the nation, but we kept them anyway. I wonder why?
@@alex_flamer Tribalism is why. There's a natural desire in most people to side with a team. As for the slavery thing, Washington could have been as vocal about ending it as he wanted, it still wouldn't change the minds of those relying on slave labor to hold up their economy.
@@switchp8286 but it wasn’t tribalism. It was literally the rich people’s greed. But it is funny how y’all use tribalism as a scapegoat. Even the tribes in Africa didn’t treat their slaves as harshly as the Europeans/Asians(this include Arabs and you decide whatever continent they are on)
I think it's easy for many people to mistakenly view Washington as an omnipotent force who could compel anyone around him to agree on the right decision for any issue, even slavery. That's the cost of idolizing him as the "perfect" founding father.

Yum
Yeah that definitely adds up. Wasn’t the bay of pigs invasion basically entirely planned before Kennedy was elected, and the major decision he mad towards it was actually to decrease direct involvement with it?
Like Biden withdrawing the troops. Someone just had to cop that terrible hand of cards eventually
Two very important things should be added though:
1) When it comes to bringing Ortega's dictatorship to the edge, credit and glory must be given to Hugo Spadafora.
They put him there in the first place 💀then took him out when he decided to turn on them
I mean, as people have said before, operation just cause was not a mistake, but all the movements done by the US that helped him get into power were surely a mistake
You’re a fantastic educator, whatever district employs you is extremely lucky to have a teacher of such caliber!

it seems the president only seems to exist as a PR scapegoat for the rest of the deep state to hide behind while not really having that much say in how things are run.

In my opinion, you have to give a President 20 years after his term is over to truly assess it. What might seem like a mistake by W. Bush, Obama, or Trump might not seem a big deal compared to another mistake made.
That's always a valid perception, I think, with maybe an exception here or there for truly egregious mistakes.
True, especially since we don't really know the truth about things due to heat and controversy
I think bush’s is gonna be safe for a long time. The Iraq war was his worst
The moralism over drug use is hardcore hypocrisy and has no place in our legal system.
take an econ course and learn about externalities and public good. with your logic spending money on forced education is a waste and moralism.

I am not too certain if the country really would have been better off had Washington made a show of manumission and opposition to slavery. In defense of Carter, I believe he did all he could do at that time. To quote Edward Grey, who wrote a book about US Presidents, “Although he has been heavily criticized for his handling of the crisis, few were prepared to say what they would have done in his place.”
Carter was definitely given a raw deal in many respects. Personally, I’d list his signing of the Airline Deregulation Act as his greatest mistake.
