Love how he's tapping his foot on the beat so he can keep the syncopated piano rhythm going. Very subtle but adds a lot of motion to the performance. Beautiful rendition.
Lol ever since that VOX video people talk about that every time the song is brought up
Surely if its just the piano there is nothing to syncopate with?
@@TheGamerThingIt's syncopated with his foot. You can hear it tapping
Notes can be syncopated with an implied (silent) beat. Imagine a drum beat where nothing is played on beat 1 but with a heavy backbeat on 2 and 4.@@TheGamerThing
@@TheGamerThingthere is an implied beat one and it is syncopated
This man has changed my life in so many ways.

How?
Phew, For a minute there I lost myself.
This is the best performance of this song. Not even Radiohead can do it better. Something perfectly magical about the acoustic of the piano and his pedal work.
Absolutely, it definitely has a vibe.
The best version, indeed. That few notes he changed in the middle, perfection.
I can't decide between this, and the other 'from the basement' - version by the full band
I can't say if this version is the best one but the acoustic piano is very soulful here. I like the drums and percussions playing off-beat in the studio version... Though, I'm unable to choose which one should be the best.
@@TheRunner75as you shouldn't be, friend. It is truly difficult deciding what song i like best when it comes to this band. Everything they have put out is truly something exceptional, so being indecisive as to which version you like best is understandable
This man better never die, like ever
Boy do I have some bad news for you...
That’ll be a dark day for me for sure
@@kadenc66 I feel you. Thom Yorke and Radiohead is what music is supposed to make you feel, do, be inspired of. I think music is the most honest thing in this world. And Thom Yorke does it the best
@@kadenc66 With how young I am, I know I’m gonna have to live in a world where the band will be just a memory. It’ll be like losing an only friend, but their music is always going to be there to comfort me like it always has. Their music will live on, never to be forgotten.
This comment is kinda ironic because this song is about all the memories he'll leave behind after he dies, and that you (the listener) shouldn't be afraid
My friend and I performed this at my mom‘s funeral.
❤️
🥲
Sadly I found this song after my mom's funeral and the first thing I said when I heard it to myself was I wish this could of been played
❤
Sure, OK Computer is a masterpiece and in many ways Thom's best work. But isn't it ironic how two years of depression and writer's block, where Thom thought his entire creative carrier was over, led to Thom's and Radiohead's most creative and revolutionary work? Let downs and dark times truly strengthens and shows your absolute potential once you recover. If anyone reading this is having it rough, know whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You will get better.
And yes, I know alot of the Kid A and Amnesiac material was written in that period, but he still had a long and hard period where he felt nothing he made was as good as it had been before.
Really wish that is true, that it gets better, but I don't know
@@johnf.r6658 it does bro. just let it be.
@@johnf.r6658 It does man. It always does
Wish at least Radiohead comment sections would be devoid of this senseless, mindless "positive thinking." No, it doesn't "always" get better. Millions of people know better. Ask the junkie on skid row if it gets better, for instance. For them it is just a slow spiral toward oblivion. Ask the suicide victim if things got better. I guess if you think death is better than life, which is very likely is, then you have an argument at least.
@@SPQR_14 It's people like you I seriously have a problem with. Theres is no definite reason for you to spread your ugly negativity around people who seriously are contemplating ending it all. Trust me, I've been there and whining about how unfair everything is and that nothing seems to go well for you is just a complete waste of time. Because guess what, thinking like that is what keeps you in your downward spiral. If you seriously think that death is the solution to all your problems then I congratulate you. But for us others who actually want to give life a chance and to see for how beautiful it truly can be, please fuck off. For you I guess this "senseless, mindless positive thinking" is something you've never even wanted to try. If darkness satisfies you then I won't convince you to do otherwise. But please, leave it out from people who genuinely wants to feel better.
This was the last song i listened to before plunging 7 stories at 70 miles per hour onto concrete. only here now by the grace of god and have a 5-year-old daughter. so much could have changed if i had succeeded. if you are thinking about doing this, or that you have no control over your life, remember there are people out there who love you, in spite of all the stupid shit you do. let go and let god, live in spite of your pain
I'm really glad to know you're here today, God bless you
God bless u man
Glad you are still with us.
What a rip off!
That happened...
This song breaks my heart and mends it at the same time
Dude- yes. Thank you- that is exactly what I feel listening to this but couldn't find the words. Peace:)
1:45 - 2:25 may be the most beautiful interlude I have ever heard
The change of lyrics to "i'm talking to you after it's too late" crushed me. Most of my friends are struggling and depressed and not being able to help them and one day finding out they ended it is one of my deepest fears.
The difference between this version and bonaroo live is tom yorke screaming out on the culmination of the song "this is my way of Saying GOODBYYEEEEEE"
And here he is so emotional he just cant scream out but wants to
My two favorite performances of videotape, Love Radiohead❤
i have an unhealthy obsession with this song….
it’s just perfect in every way
Everytime I see this man I feel happy
same
this man is the embodiment of music
Right?!!! 🤗😊😁🥰🙏
this is one of the most intimate performances, from Thom Yorke, Ever
just him, piano, when i hear it, i think he's singing to his 1st wife, as she's passing with cancer
that's just what i see or hear
its a very tender song, only possible with true real emotion
amazing
Have you seen his piano version of Bloom? If not look it up. It’s titled Thom Yorke Bloom live at some studio. It’s amazing just as this one is.
Watch him wobble to a beat that is not there. Ingenious.
this is on my 'falling asleep' playlist. it makes my heartrate tick up every night and i dont know why i havent taken it off the playlist because it doesnt help me sleep at all. i just get so immersed in the tripping, falling over your own feet feeling this song instils and i love that my heartbeat will sync to it
Is no one noticing how the lyrics get switched up on this version at 2:25?!
This is my way of saying goodbye
Cuz I can’t do it face to face
I’m talking to you after it’s too late
From a videotape
No matter what happens now
I won’t be afraid
Because I know today has been the most perfect day I’ve ever seen
Yeah, people were noticing. There's several comments in it.
No. Only you noticed and Thom Yorke did it intentionally so you would.
2:45
because it is an early version. this live from the basement was in 2005, while in rainbows is released in 2008
@@ooloncolluphid9975 2007*
*trigger warning* I was locked up in a psych ward when this was first teased in 2007 after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. I was a big fan since the Bends and had seen them four times, (1995 for the Bends, 1998 for OK Computer twice, and 2001 for Kid A/Amnesiac) but I was so lost in drug addiction, ego, and misery, I wasn’t listening to music much. Despite being a musician myself.
Sitting in the day room of that amazing psych facility, I never expected that was where I would discover probably my favorite Radiohead song. It made me feel in a way I hadn’t felt for a long, long time.
Thank you Thom🖤🙏
(ANIMA and Daily Battles were also ... unbelievably good).
What a lovely story
@@changfachou hope it wasn’t too triggery. Thanks!
Hope you’re doing good today. :)
@@window__licker I’m trying, just like everyone else🙏but I very much appreciate you asking.
I rarely check UA-cam messages because of negativity. But that’s kind of you.
@@RustinChole the internet is a ruthless place, but I hope you get where you want to in life bro. I know messages over the internet mean nothing for the most part, but I’m glad you’re doing better for yourself now since you’re still here after all those years. I think it’s part of the human spirit to hold on, and knowing others like you have held on gives me hope to continue :)
I'm very glad we have this song on videotape
The genius that is Thomas Edward Yorke. A wonderful singer, song writer and musician who has helped to give us some of the most insanely beautiful music the world has ever heard.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written
Yorke takes it weigh up. Still a zeitgeist for its intelligent, aware and sensitive listeners.
definitely the most beautiful version. and the first one we got to hear as far as i can remember. this song has comforted me in so many ways over the years. on certain days it was the only medicine that was able to keep me alive.
I was 18 when this album came out & I’ve watched this video dozens of times at this point in my mid-30s. It’s stark emotionality still strikes me. It’s austere & it is beautiful. Heartbreaking & somehow hopeful. A perfect way to conclude a virtually perfect album.
I think that every child at the age of ten should be given the entire works of Radiohead with a note that says,“Listen and understand, this songs will tell you everythink you need to know about what you will feel and go through for the rest of your life and you will realize that you aren‘t the only person who feels like this“

How tormented a soul must be, to write music this good
From tragedy, comes greatness
His lyrics move me more than any other artist. As a music producer and song writer his solo projects originality and emotional vulnerability inspire me.
This song takes me to another place. Bless you Thom Yorke.
This is absolutely stunning.
Thom has a way, of bringing you into his world, in the most beautifully, masterful way possible.
Definitive version of the song, it just cuts straight through. They could have stuck this recording on the end of In Rainbows.
I read "Fausto" because of this song... That's how much i love it! is just so perfect.
I really love this song. Every couple of months I start singing it to myself.
Year after year....I drift through the weeds with your melodies wafting in the shadows of my mind. Almost thirty years now and it only gets better. That’s how beautiful and complex your music truly is!!!
This song just hits me for whatever reason. It’s beautiful…..
I wish I could like this a thousand times.
I love this with all my heart, thank you for your art.
One of my favorite songs. Absolutely perfect!
This was so beautiful. Ty
You are my center when i spin away out of control. I really felt that.
Beyond brilliant. Thanks Thom. My soul is activated.
Prime Thom Yorke. Simply incredible.

Thom, quel talent! Créations, douceurs, folies!
A masterpiece.
Best video on UA-cam.
The way he smashes that pedal to match the rythm of the song makes me wet... I mean my eyes are wet cause i'm crying, please send help
Best performance 👏🏻🧐
This is true art baked in history
THIS IS ABSURDLY GOOD!!! MIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUI
I LOVE YOU, THOM!
Had no idea this got re-uploaded in HD. Had been watching the old what 480p version for like a decade.
I hope I have the opportunity to listen to this masterpiece when my time comes and I am able to see myself on videotape.
Как всегда спасибо, Том!
so kool, so lucky to av him, genuis, ❤

He is playing the syncopation with the piano pedal just wow
The best
Probably his best song.
Best performace
this song is very moving
This is a great song for my MMA sparring. When me and the other guy are pummeling one another and we're both bruised and bloodied, this piano stuff really gets us pumped. It's not as good as Static X but it's really decent.
please play this at my funeral
I love you thom
Is he using the piano pedals to create a rhythm?? It sounds very faint but almost ryhtmic like
this is the one
Oh wow, been there , you are not alone. 😥💜🐱♏🏴
When I'm at the pearly gates
This'll be on my videotape, my videotape
Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me
This is one for the good days
And I have it all here
In red, blue, green
Red, blue, green
You are my centre
When I spin away
Out of control on videotape
On videotape
On videotape
On videotape

I'm talking to you before
No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen
Wer part of all. Love you Thom.
Wow, I thought this would have come out months ago... but it JUST came out lol

No words
Even though he's a bearded man, I can still see the little boy playing music in his room by himself.
Dammit I'm addicted again

Love this version. They should’ve mic’ed up Thom’s foot though, mixed a little more in there.
I actually love the rhythm it makes
@@ooloncolluphid9975 I second this
I have a crush on Thom Yorke.
when i am, you're not. when you're, i am not.
just can't remove gold from a bracelet. ❤
Thom’s music isn’t just normal music, using syncopated beats, complicated chord progressions and different time signatures. But this song, video tape encompasses only one of them. It is really (and I mean really) hard to stay in rhythm with syncopation. Thom uses his full brain to not mess up the beats and stay with the time signature. (PS: Syncopate is when the instrumentalist plays the song on his own rhythm rather than a typical time signature song which goes on the beat, syncopation goes on the feel and whatever speed the player chooses to go on, example: 4/4 beat, like pyramid song, where the player goes on his own pace but is still within the time signature of 4/4. Usually songs play on the upbeat or the downbeat, but syncopation keeps on majorly the player’s feel) I might have made some mistakes sorry, I’m not really good at explanation but this is a synopsis.
It's an amazing song, but the syncopation isn't really all that complicated when there's only one instrument playing.
you explained rubato not syncopation
❤️
The metronome is pretty audible and cool
That’s the noise of his foot on the pedal
