    That’s so cool that the director realized he was overworked and needed to take a break, what a compassionate observation. I wish more bosses understood this and supported their co-workers in a way that shows they care.

      Pixar’s team seems to be constructed (or at least was) of very passionate people who understood the craft. And they valued the art more than the bottom dollar. So yeah it is very cool he was cool/ wise enough to know it would be worth more to let this talented artist rest a short while to get back to his old self.

    I'm a 3D animator, it happened to me too, but I told my compagny right when it started to happen. They understood and were very nice, I left my job because it was the beginning of a huge burnout (two years ago and I'm still having consequences now.) They told me that they would still re employ me when I'll feel better. But the truth is I don't know if I can animate for the rest of my life. It's a wonderful job, I had amazing years, but the pressure, my gosh it's something they don't prepare you for in school. It's a passion-job, the pressure and the want to do better and better and better burns us out so quickly and you don't see it comming. I was an high masking autistic-adhd person too, that didn't help and now I'm on a ton of medication to only barely fonction day by bay. I'm setting animation aside for an indeterminate time and I'm focusing on a chill artisanal side buisness instead.

    I feel like this explains the situation poorly. He didn't "forget" it's like saying you forgot how to talk, like your mind blipped for a long period of time on how to say words. That obviously doesn't happen. He had a hard time coming up with good ideas and when it comes to top tier animation, it's the most important thing. If the idea sucks it all sucks but on a technical level it was probably still amazing. He was just being self deprecating when he said he forgot.
    So more accurately his mind was not working at an efficient capacity to allow him to think at all because he was way too stressed. It's just stress.

    • @SoulHydron
      @SoulHydron Місяць тому +13

      I think it was prob more of a technical thing. Animation is both technical and artistic- its kinda similar to acting. I also believe animators are usually not the ones that decide on the ideas, rather their job is mostly to execute the performance in a scene. I think he might've literally had a hard time making his shots look good and nothing was working. Like how sometimes artists find that they hate everything they try to draw and feel stuck. But yeah sounds like his mind was stressed and needed rest

      @@DarthFedora while reasonable, everything you said isn’t “completely forgetting how to do a trade you learned and honed over years”. Spider-man lost “some” of his abilities (well actually one) which isn’t a good analogy either, since this is more akin spider’s biological performance, not something learned. While, stress to a spider can cause them to have trouble producing web, since it’s involuntary, it’s impossible to forget how.

  • @galaxytevine1801

    I recently just got out of artblock and this is exactly what it’s like
    You firstly don’t have any motivation/energy/inspiration to draw but if you do try you first find out that it doesn’t bring you any joy, it feels like a chore and then you notice that you can’t draw anymore, like one moment you could and the other you can’t, the first time I went through it I was confused and then sad thinking I could never draw again like I genuinely lost the ability to draw but after hearing what Art block is although still sad when it happened I knew when the time comes I can draw again, I won’t loose it forever so I work on stuff that is stressing me in my life and firstly remove or work on the tiny things and work myself up to things I find harder to work on that stress me until I’m out of artblock
