Amazing piece of machinery. My dad bought one around the release year, and eventually I got it handed down to me. I see the video, and Dave was using the skid guards... it actually leaned and turned better without them!! Thanks for bringing back the memories!!
So true. But at least it.never fell over on his shoulders and wear out the fabric as we did before crash bars. Here is a newer video of it as I recently got a brand new one. Thanks kindly. ua-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/v-deo.html
Got about 40 of these in a range of conditions. The rarest version is based on a Suzuki Katana. Its called a citirider.Last time I looked it took me ages to find it mentioned on the internet.
40 Kraft Eleck Riders!!! Yikes. I worked at Kraft when these were introduced and I only had one. Another one was donated to me after the fire destroyed everything, and I made a video on that one a little more recently that this old one, from 13 years ago. Check it out, and thanks. This one was brand new. Thanks. ua-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/v-deo.html
That is freakin' awesome! My Uncle had one of those when I was a little kid and I always thought that it was the coolest thing I had ever seen! He was really good at driving it and also made similar crash bars on his that he had made out of coat hangers.
I had one of these back in the late 1970's and it was a lot of fun. I bought it from Tower Hobbies, I was around 13 at the time. I don't know if you got any of the chrome nerf bars that came with them, I think there was two or three different sets that would keep it up right kind of like training wheels, the could be changed as your skill level improved. Since Evel Knievel was so popular back then, one to many jumps killed mine, but it was fun while it lasted.
Great to hear that. After the Fire destroyed all my models, A subscriber sent me a brand new one he had in the box. I built it and here is the video on it. Thanks for commenting and for your story. ua-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/v-deo.html
Thanks so kindly. I have newer videos on it, but here is one that is 15 years old and I'll bet you will like too. ua-cam.com/video/ZoXs349YK7E/v-deo.html
The front forks are setup wrong. The parts where the front wheel bolts to should face the rear, this way the wheel centerline of the front wheel is behind the forks themselves. That's why it turns so wide and wobbles so bad. If the bottoms were reversed the trail is then behind the fork pivot point. I own 3 of them.
Exactly. It uses counter steering to make him turn. That's why the front forks need to be trailing. Set up that way and he should turn smoothly although it will not turn too sharp. You have to be moving at a fair clip to turn or even stand up straight but it shouldn't be jerky.
Long time subscriber here, Dave has never ceased to amaze me with the things he dusts off from his collection. What I think makes his channel so interesting isn't the objects themselves so much as the wealth of easily understood knowledge he imparts along with the video. I'd also like to take a moment to thank you Dave, for your military service on this Veteran's Day. Semper Fidelis.
Right on. You just need a 2 channel radio. I prefer, but could not find the Kraft 2 channel they came with, but I used a simple car radio with a steering wheel control for my new one. Here is a newer video, where I show how to assemble a brand new one, that I recently acquired as well. This may help you. Thanks much. ua-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/v-deo.html
the more I watch your videos, the more I learn ... the steering system is smart , to say the least ... great stuff ... keep on the great job , and thanks !
40 years old bike. It looks exactly like the Kyosho bike in my 1982 catalogue (you can find the catalogue online as a PDF). Did Kyosho take over from Kraft?
Yes. I hated to lose it in the big fire that destroyed all my vintage models and all I owned on 911, 2016. Kraft was sold to Carlyle Tire corporation, and finally went bankrupt, in 1982. Mostly it was because we could not keep up with the lower price of the Japanese products, which were JR PRopo, Futaba and others from Japan. Nothing was from China at the time. Kyosho was making models but not radios, so they were not involved. Thanks for commenting.
Great to hear that. This one was destroyed in my fire on 2016, 911. But a Subscriber brought me a brand new one and I made a video of it last year. Maybe you saw it. ua-cam.com/video/j8hJp3FaF-E/v-deo.html
Hey Dave- that one's in a lot better shape than I last saw mine! I got got mine from Ray K.- needed a little tlc and was a blast to run. I set mine up to run fast. The last good run it had it hit a rock about an inch high, doing about 30mph and it just launched the poor thing! pretty well bent up on landing. That was about 25 years ago!
really cool, Dave. Especially that this RC motorcycle's got a chaindrive, just like the real ones! I once had an RC motorcycle too, but a modern one, it drove quite well, it had a steering system to shift the cg, but no tilting, it was more like "real" steering, but the front wheel moved sidewards while being turned into the direction you want to go. The bad thing about this bike was, that the tx had a crappy range so you had to run after it, that was quite exhausting haha :D
Awesome steering mechanism! That is the same principle my brother used to teach me to ride a bike when I was 4. Of course I leaned a lot at first. I watched too many episodes of C.H.I.P.S. lol Nice one handed landing!
I had a lot of cool toys (like this one) when I was a kid....wish I would have taken better care of them, and kept them! Most of them ended up being blown-up by fire crackers! lol Thanks for sharin, Dave!! Semper Fi!
Goodness me!! How did I miss this vid? Somewhere in amongst my wealth of junk, I have the front wheel and forks from one of these. There's solid metal inside that tire if my memory serves me. And that rider had a rather sad square piece of foam for a body inside his riding overalls. But that was countersteering gone mad!
Got my first bike in 79, and the scond one in 83. I am still playing with it. I put the receiver under the tank, remove the dummy, and add a small pack of battery for the unit. The bike was made by Kyosho. Go to web site rcuniverse, search for BKWH59 pictures
It is great ! i have exactly the same bike but in blue, my grandpha bought it like 35-40 years ago... I have it completelly except for the pinion gear and a broken firing. Did you make any mod to speed control system? or you only conected lipo bat?
I replay your video many times.... You mentioned the main gear has to source elsewhere... oh, please let me know where can you find the main gear (which can be compatible with the original), the shaft is not round make the whole thing difficult. I hope I can restore mine also....
So this could be vintage Dave Night-Rider, but I suppose that name is already copyrighted. :) This is a really cool RC vehicle Dave. Thanks for sharing.
Why did I have to see this vid? Now you're going to 'make' me put my Eleck Rider back into running condition too! Couple things: I hated the stock steering system. At speed it was too stable and wouldn't turn; slow it down and the steering was too sensitive and the crash bars saw lots of service.
@"49 the triple tree is on correct, but later, after the wheel cleaning, its 180 degrees off - will that make the steering a bit twitchier? oops im wrong never mind
@@waynepryce34 Well the manual and box do not tell the size. I believe it is a 180 or slightly bigger. It is about 1 1/8 wide by 1 1/4 long. Must be DC brushed and needs a uses a rheostat, as ESCs were not invented at the time, but can be used. Prop balance for driving is key. I guess you bought it without a motor. That is too bad. Hey Dave! Great video as always. Did you ever get a chance to play with the Kyosho off road version of this bike? I believe it was a Yamaha YZ-250. I've been playing with "modern" R/C bikes for a few years now. Looks like more are coming on the market now - especially of the off road variety!
