Huh, interesting to see a review on something I've used for a decade, lol. I've been using a Giant Sedona since the mid 2000s. Almost 20 years! I remember getting it in high-school "because it was around the 500 dollar mark," and never actually realized what any of its pros or cons were. I just knew it held up good, and still chugs along to this day! I've never been a bike expert, and these past 5 years have been really rough on the bike. I used it as commuter bike all through the winter, getting it dirty. Popping tires, and crashing on the ice. The gear shifting isn't perfect anymore. If I put it in that super low gear, it'll get stuck in low gear for several minutes until it clicks back into place. Sometimes the gears skip a bit when shifting. I've basically had it on 2-6 the last few months, and it runs good. I'm sure if I do some maintence on it, I can probably get it working again. But the fact that it runs at all despite 5 years in the snow and salt speaks volumes for its durability. I once had the seat stolen due to those quick-releases, and swapped those out so it didn't happen again. The seat is pretty comfy, but having ridden the same bike for almost 20 years -- I have nothing to compare it to, but I never notice it as a flaw. ---- The only reason I'm looking into bike stuff now is because I'd like to retire the old workhorse and switch into an E-bike. So it's been a lot of learning! It's still really nice to see someone swoon over a bike that I've felt has become a piece of junk. Gives me renewed appreciation of it. Thanks!
I bought one in 2012. I loved that bike. It was stolen last April. I replaced it with a cypress. I think I liked the Sedona a little more. I caught somebody riding my Sedona a couple moths ago. I'm going to put it in the shop to get overhauled. I'll be riding the Sedona.
I have the 2018 and am very pleased with the comfort, rideability, braking system and convenience of suspension adjustments as you've stated. I too have the same preferences and riding experience. I don't understand why Giant isn't selling these bikes like it seems they should. I haven't taken my front tire off yet. I rode mine home from the bike shop for that reason. I bought tire liners for flat protection, which have served me well in the past. Thanks for the brake tip! Great review! Thanks!
Thank you, I have always been a function over form type of guy but this bike has both. Works great and looks great. I have done some modifications and made some adjustments. I plan on doing another review once the snow melts in my area. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The suspension is in the the front forks & down the middle of the bike under yh seat all ready built-in,as everyone i see wants one in 2021 ocyober as it's a flying machine with some weight but npot a Heavy Weight . I placed my Go-Pro on mine as i nearly lost my legs in a crash but came away with just mass bruises, but always love my Giant Sedona Bike now what a breathe of fresh air especially to get to work ...wow ...10/10 Bike thats so relible
Great review!. I bought my Sedona DX in charcoal with blue last week and it is an awesome, aggressive looking bike.. Comfortable upright position and ride. I love the fat tires, blacked out rims, and disk brakes. Perfect bike for my combination of street, gravel paths and moderate to light trails. The matt paint job is beautiful. I have only two minor gripes about this bike. First, the plastic pedals look cheap to me. I plan on getting a set of aluminum mountain bike pedals to replace them. The other is having to purchase an optional kickstand. Seriously, who is going to spend $550 and then lay your bike on the ground. Giant should just include the kickstand and add the price to the cost. I plan on adding a rack for carrying some gear and some lights. I'm also going to get a much better lock since this bike gets a lot of attention. I really love this bike!
I just bought the 2020 Sedona DX in Burgundy. I haven't received it yet, but I did have a 1991 Giant Sedona that I loved that was stolen. I have a Giant NRS1 ATC that I gave to my son. He loves it.
A great review by someone who obviously has done a lot of biking and knows what he is talking about. I have been thinking about getting this bike and will now having heard this review, I’m now certain of it. Thanks for all your honest help.
Good review Brian, and a good choice. I've owned well over a half dozen bikes in my lifetime and my current one is a 2001 Sedona LX. It's far and away the best bike I've had. I was thinking of upgrading to the new year's DX model and you've pretty much sealed it for me.
Rode one today at my local shop. I'm also older plus I'm very heavy. I had no issues with it. Worked great and I'm 300+ First ride for me in 20 plus years. I bought it to lose weight, got a killer bike trail right next to my house. I still think it's a bit pricey, but like you it checked all the right boxes. I'm going Orange though. I'm 5'10" and the sales guy keeps telling me to get the medium, but I think I might get the large. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to test them both out and bring one home.
@@brianrichard1768 Picked it up today. Got the Large frame Orange. Had the shop set it up to fit me perfect. Put water bottle on it, kick stand, mirror, phone holder, and a bell. Put 3 miles on it today and now there's a grinding noise coming from the rear hub/gear area. Going back tomorrow to have it checked.
@@brianrichard1768 I think it's actually that clear plastic piece behind all the gears on the rear hub, I think it's rubbing on the spokes. Not to worried about it. I got 1 year free replacement warranty and lifetime on the frame.
Would love it in military green. Most of the catalogue on renown bike companies are either full nerd MTB or racing and then crappified versions if you want something more "city like". This sedona checks many boxes for me. Companies want to use marketing to sell bigger tires, more "premium", more expensive bikes for no reason.
I need a new bike, and when I went into my local shop, this is the one the guy showed me. It's a nice bike, and I'm willing to get it, but spending $600 on a bike all at once is a bit much for me. I also have to do something with my current bike first so I have somewhere to put this one.
I have the same bike & it's awesome, I love the gray & blue, I had a 2018 Sedona black and green, I sold it to get the 2019, both bike were great bikes, no complain on either one, very comfortable bike's, I only do upright position, due to bad back & nothing beats the Sedona, I added a rear rack, different peddles & orders a pair of maxxis hookwarm tires for it, haven't installed them yet, 2nd Sedona and still can't find anything that fits my needs like the Sedona.
Thanks for the video. Seems like your uses and preferences in a bike are right in line with mine so the video was very helpful. I've been looking at the Sedona DX a while. Plan to make the purchase this evening. Sedona DX for me and the women's version for my wife. We'll replace the Marin (mine) and the Townie (hers) that we currently ride.
Hello Brian R. Nice looking bike you have. I think you made the right choice buying it bike 👍🏻🚲 .!., I have a question do you know. The deference between Giant Cypress DX and Sedona DX.?!., Just wonder because I have one that is Giant Cypess DX !, and I'm looking to upgrade my bike for better parts I may needs and I wonder if your bike have more gears on back and what type of front suspension and brake system you have ?.
@@brianrichard1768 Yes, unfortunately they discontinued the Sedona. The Cypress Dx is a similar bike but I'm not sure about the tire size. Unfortunately, bikes with 26 inch tires are on the way out....
I've been waiting on a good review of the Giant Sedona now I have a Giant cypress dx 2015 love the bike ,but I hate the brakes so now I have the Giant Cypress dx 2019 disc on layaway
I almost bought the cypress, it looked very similar to my diamondback wildwood. I never did get to see one in person as the dealer did not have either the sedona or cypress in stock. He ordered my sedona with a small deposit and promise that if I didn't like it he would refund my money. Good luck with yours and thanks for the comment.
Sure, I rode it all day yesterday. It's very smooth. I'm still getting used to the trigger shifters, it will take some time before it is second nature as to which way is up vs down. I cranked the fork shock all the way up and was surprised to find that it doesn't really dive much when I brake really hard. I also cranked the seat all the way soft it's still a little stiff, it will probably "break in" after a little while. So far i'm happy. It's a beautiful looking bike. Have a computer coming today and I install some small wal- mart lights front and back. I'll try to get a review up this weekend. If you have any questions let me know.

Like the lower gear ratio and fat tires but am a but concerned about going a bit slower. Also looking at the specialized roll which has 650x 2.3 tires. Any suggestions?
I tried the specialized roll. It's comfortable and looks pretty good but does not like to wheelie and for me that was a red flag. You could always put skinnier tires on the sedona if it was too slow for you. My brother has a specialized hybrid with skinnier 700c wheels we just spent a week together and for casual riding 11-16 mph there was no issue. Also my bike was far more comfortable.

I brake like a manual ABS, tiny small-kinda hard pushes. 25-30Km/h to 0 in what 6m.

Sedona=smoother ride. Cypress=easier peddling on pavement but not so good in trails.
What does it weigh? Can it keep up to a cypress dx or specualized roll.
