    I bought a Mastercraft Flux Core MIG welder from Canadian Tire almost 2 years ago, it was on sale for about $200.00 I also bought some .030 Lincoln flux core wire at the same time. I also have an old Mastercraft stick welder I purchased many years ago. I find the MIG welder easier to use as I am just a novice wanna be welder😜 As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't fall apart or break, you have a good weld. My welds aren't pretty, but they hold😁 Just like the saying goes, "A grinder and paint makes the welder I ain't" A flap disc makes the weld look pretty in a jiffy. Take care Don and thanks for the video👍

    Thanks for the review Dony. I have looked into the MIG welder and no where do I see the input 115v amp requirement. Most of the 115 welders seem to require a 20 amp circuit to run these.
    Do you have any information that might have been in the paperwork that came with the welder that might give me an idea of what the AC input circuit amp rating needs to be?

      All it takes is shielding gas (100% argon) and a tig torch.

  • @Ecksterphono

    I usually like doing reviews on products after moderate hours of use. Especially certain Chinese products that aren't main brand and become unavailable in short order. Product my work good but when something goes wrong that you can't source parts or you have to replace a complete assembly, then it's not worth it. If a product doesn't last more than a year or 2 years then it's not worth it.

      @@donyboy73 Hey thanks for replying! I am flabbergasted by this, just can't make it work - tried several browsers with the same result, even looking up a google temu help link, I am immediately redirected to the login page. I'm completely stumped. Some folks seem to say it only works on android. Too much of a hassle for an old timer who felt much more at ease in a DOS console and was able to get things done using FORTRAN!!!.
      In any case I loved your review - I have an old stick welder. Weighs a ton but gets things done. Suprised the little inverter box works seemingly as well as my old monster for 1/4 inch plate! Keep up the good work and greetings from La Belle Province ☺

  • @RollingEasy
    @RollingEasy Місяць тому

    The welder looks good Donny but your welds don't..... Try this on the 1/4 inch. Amps around 130. 6012 electrode and a firm pressing contact continuous weld holding the stick at about 30 deg to the joint. Flux will peel upwards like a snake skin and just fall off. Fillet size will be the 1/4 inch required.

    • @donyboy73

    • @donyboy73
      @donyboy73  Місяць тому

      Did you mean 6013 or 6011 rods? I cannot find 6012 rods.

    • @RollingEasy
      @RollingEasy Місяць тому

      @@donyboy73 You've given me so many good tips on small engines over time. I can offer a few good tips on welding.
      If you can't get GP 6012 then 6013 will do. With amps just a bit higher, you 'lean' the rod against the base metal with a slight pressure and at a fairly acute angle. Its called a 'touch weld'. Get it right and it looks like it was done by a machine. 6011 is a cellulose flux rod, run on DC. It behaves like a sparkler but gives good penetration on pipe welds and then a 6012 can cap over to make it look pretty.
      My best unit is a TIG as one of the benefits aside from welding, is that it can give incredible and precise heating up of 'frozen' mechanical parts with its small but concentrated arc when a piece of scrap is clamped to the part which needs the heat. Far safer than an oxy or butane torch on machinery and small engines etc. I've yet to see your other welding videos but have always enjoyed your small engine repairs greatly...... Thank you.

    • @donyboy73
      @donyboy73  Місяць тому

      @@RollingEasy Thanks! I practiced the method you mentioned and I noticed better results immediately and the slag peeled like a snake skin just like you said. Thanks again, I appreciate it! The 6012 rods are impossible to find here.

    • @RollingEasy
      @RollingEasy Місяць тому

      @@donyboy73 Glad you tried my suggestion. Generally on a good weld slag comes away very easily and that's when you know you've done it well. Another thing I always tell anyone fairly new to stick welding, is to get physically propped and comfortable before striking the arc. You cannot write neatly on paper with holding an 8 inch pencil by its eraser so when the rod is new and long, two gloved fingers of the left hand can hold it like a billiard cue to get the start and to give the steady as you get the weld underway. UA-cam is filled with many BRILLIANT welders. I'm in awe of many even if I've been welding for well over half a century. Some would make me look like a beginner but this is how we all learn new things every day. As it should be.
