I think the coolest thing about these videos is how much everyone has a playstyle, or set of cards that people know they love. Sandy is the mono white player, LSV wants to take Academy, JBro wants to draft some green red based aggro deck, blue white control is literally Cheons.
LSV has an insane range though. And he always goes for where the packs and the picks of his opponents lead him, he doesn't really force draft his biases that much. He reads the draft really well.
Kappa Cannoneer low key one of the best cards in the deck. That card has been really good for me. A shame LSV didn’t play the cannoneer earlier in game 1, he could have copied it with reflection and most likely alpha striked with unblockable.
I agree, I wonder if talking through plays instead of just thinking about them is actually a level a difficulty added to this. Wonder if LSV notices a different in the quality of his play when off stream.
This one was a good case for the premise that no matter how good you are, it's just not possible to consistently both be an entertaining narrator and play flawlessly at the same time.
31:29 you could win by: just play island, then kappa cannoneer for one blue and tap 5 artifacts. Then just copy it with reflection of kiki. It comes into play with haste and is a 5/5 after giving itself a counter, then play zuran orb making 2 sharks (with the orb for 3 counters), making Kappa 8/8, then chrome Mox for 2 more sharks (with the mox itself for 3 more) makes kappa 11//11, then brain freeze makes 2 more sharks puts him up to 13/13, then cast wheel of fortune for 2 more sharks 15/15. Then go to attacks, and attack with everything, the 15/15 unblockable hasty kappa cannoneer token, the goblin shaman token, both seedsharks, the trinket mage, and syr ginger which is 6/4 after sacrificing the treasure earlier. Then you get another treasure from goblin which gives kappa another counter and syr too after sacrificing it. He can only make 2 more fliers to chump both seedsharks, and the one servo he has can chump trinket, zirda blocks goblin shaman, and just the 4/4 is left to block Syr, so 3 points of trample get through plus the 16/16 unblockable kappa makes 19 points of damage and he’s at 17.
This is close but has a few issues. The first issue is that Syr doesn't have trample unless an opponent controls a planeswalker, so if the rest was possible the opponent could still block all the damage except the Kappa and survive on 1. The second issue is that we don't have enough mana because in this line the Treasure Token needs to tap to cast Kappa and also sac for a mana as part of the 2 spells + kiki copy but it needs to tap in order to sacrifice so it can't be used for both (and casting Wheel means we can't do it later in the turn after we get the treasure from the token attacking - we could hope to draw a different
@@Willd2p2 Dovin's Veto can't counter creature spells, so the Cannoneer would come down. Agree with your other points, I couldn't quite see a path to lethal on that turn. Regardless, Cannoneer was the play that turn, LSV seemed a bit tunnel visioned on the Brain Freeze plan.
@@edwardbeshers Right of course, was so focused on it possibly countering everything else in the lines LSV was talking about that I forgot it couldn't actually counter the Cannoneer. @@Willd2p2 you are correct about trample, I missed that. But you are wrong on mana, as there was enough as is, and you can’t tap the treasure to cast cannoneer AND sac it for mana, as you have to tap as part of the sacrifice cost.

I don't really understand your dislike for Crucible in the Academy decks when you have Zuran Orb. Being able to tap Tolarin Academy, sacrifice it, and tapping it again gets you near immediately to "infinite" mana without even needing too much additional setup. Even just bringing Tolarian Academy from making two mana to four mana for a turn can give you an early power play.
Great question, I bet he takes the academy tho. A good follow up question is what about ruby or sapphire next. He def takes time walk and ancestral over it I think, lotus I’m not so sure tho🤔🤔🤷♂️
Can you, at 1:10:00 activate the ability of Reckoner Banbuster after you declare blockers to still draw a card before it dies? Ignore this. I just realized that crewing it obviously turns it into a creature, thus it is affected by summoning sickness, idk why i missed that.
in match 2 game 1, was there a reason you didn't draw with the bankbuster before it died when it was double blocking the adventurer? What else were you saving your mana for? (I can't imagine it was for brain freeze at taht point in the game)
also, in game 3 you definitely did have lethal after you milled them out, there were enough non-summoning sick incubators to wake up and send in and they wouldn't have enough blockers to get them all plus shark. sweet game though!
I was messing around with Retrofitter in the Arena Cube last night actually. It’s a little better than it used to be with the generally lower cost spells and whatnot but my god that card is good.
It looks like these zero-interaction do-nothing draw-7 decks aren't that great, especially since the opponent can have Sheoldred, Bowmasters or some other hosers in their deck. Also skipping that Force of Negation (interaction) for a mediocre artifact seemed way too greedy.
chrome moxing the Wheel away I think was terrible. Yes, it didn't look like you would be able to resolve it through dovin's veto but getting rid of it yourself just lets him veto something else instead. Also you couldn't use the mana for anything. I also think there was an argument to brainfreezing the turn after he cast dig simply because it didn't seem like he found the combo which means it was very likely you'd mill it but would have to decide if you could beat the board. So not sure if it was right, but should have been considered.
I believe they are the various trophies Luis won as a pro (plus one he took as collateral when he loaned Reid Duke cab fare) and original artworks from MtG cards.
I would be surprised if it made it in... 5 color decks are already pretty viable with how good the mana is in this Cube, and the other fringe benefits (like Valakut) don't seem worth it either. Only having 1 in a deck means it is much less likely to be in your opening hand, so you've got this clunky 4-mana do nothing card most of the time.
Strange question, dark blast wouldn’t be playable I don’t think. There’s no dredge archetype, and the black removal at one mana is so much better. Lava dart is only mildly playable and is so because it gets 2 spells on the stack, occasionally kills 2 creatures for only one card and a land, and with agro red decks as much burn as possible is good.
It was a shame not to take advantage on the displacer kitten, because teferi, time raveler showed up right next to it. It is a "infinite" mana combo and it allows you to draw your whole deck

I doubt “unfunness” would effect LSV’s assessment of a cards worth. I do agree and feel he both overvalues star and undervalues twist, but just barely. I also think mind twist is not always comparable to something like fractured loyalty, because it’s much more high variance. If your opponent only has 2 or 3 cards by the time you play it, it’s not always that great, and if their board is strong, it can waste your turn not playing to the board. Fractured is always great if you can survive to put it on the stack, as it both deals with best threat and give you one. Also, I think the reason LSV undervalues mindtwist and in the past library, is only because they used to be like top picks after power and have dropped a lot, tho he goes way too far occasionally in that mode, like I remember a few months ago he would pass library for something like currency converter, another great card he takes a few notches higher than I do.
