    The title of this is misleading because these stairs are both big AND beefy 😆. This is coming out super dope!

    This loft is a step above the rest.
    Step aside other diy'ers, these stairs rule.
    what are you doing step-stairs?
    I really had to take a step back to fully appreciate that loft!
    I just stepped out for a moment and the video was over.

    I have not heard so many "Rock Solids" since I was in Germany, serving with the 92nd MPs in Baumholder. Baumholder is nicknamed "The Rock," and the motto of the 92nd is "Rock Solid!"

    I'm a big fan of how overbuilt everything is. You can rest comfortably knowing that will not easily come apart!

    As big and Beefy as that loft is going to be, if a tornado ever comes your way, you will have a safe place to hide... LOL We have a similar theology, why build, when you can over build. Great job so far, Looking forward to see what your railing will be like.

    Comment: Awesome! Question: How did you get the pocket screws into the bottom tread? That's really tight.

    • @michaelzimmerman635
      @michaelzimmerman635 5 місяців тому +1

      Probably with a 90 degree drill attachment. I have one for tight cabinet work.

      I had to kinda toenail them in instead of drilling a normal pocket hole

      I had to get into a tight space but I didn't have a 90° drill...I used my husband's ratchet and it worked fine.

    What's the span of your loft? 2x6 sounds undersized for a garage loft, all depends on your span though

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  5 місяців тому +1

      It’s a hair less than 12’. Code says you can use 2x6 joists up to 12’. But spacing them 12” on center increases the strength

    Great Video (as usual). I am curious the distance between stringers. I was expecting 3 stringers with the side ones closer to the edge of the step and one in the middle, and not 2.

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  5 місяців тому +1

      They’re about 30” apart with a 9” gap at the sides. I thought about doing three but liked the look of two better. Since they’re laminated it’s pretty equivalent to having 4 stringers

    Brilliant build, absolutely love the result and i can't wait to see the next episode.
    You used Pocket Holes on these stairs, why didn't you use the Kreg HD Pocket Hole jig which would have been perfect for this job as they are for 2 1/2+ thick material, i'm not saying you did it wrong i was just wondering. All this you are doing i certainly wouldn't even got anywhere near what you have done so well done.
    Take Care and Stay Safe, Happy Christmas and New Year to you and your family.

      @BearMountainBuilds  5 місяців тому

      I just used what I already had. Decided I didn’t need to buy a new jig that I wouldn’t use very much. Plus the steps won’t be taking so much load that they need the extra screw bite

    Something is really bothering me here. You went with massive posts and the stairs are "big and beefy," but you went with 2x6s for your floor joists. I thought you said that the 2x6s were 16 feet long (correct me if I am wrong). The max recommended span for a 2x6 is 12'6". Does reducing to 12" on center compensate for that? Why not go with 2x10s, other than cost? I would just hate for you to add weight to that loft with storage and what-not and start to see those joists sagging.

    • @BearMountainBuilds
      @BearMountainBuilds  3 місяці тому

      The 2x6 joists are 12' long not 16'. I agree they would sag if they were 16' long
