One of my favorite little moments in the show from OVA 7. Coming from a family of mercenaries, Pip comes to his grandfather crying and upset about how at school he gets picked on for being the son of a mercenary. To console him, his grandfather tells him the truth.
Also, I will not be able to make any Amv's for quite a long time. Do not expect anything new from this channel until at least October. Sorry folks, you'll have to be kept waiting. I know i'll be missing a lot with the new DBZ movie coming to theaters in America soon. - Фільми й анімація
“We fight for money because fighting for fun is too horrible to admit.”
Love that line
Best line about the nature of a mercenary ever written and spoken.
*Grim, but true. People fight because they just want to.*
Pip even admits that it was the thrill of the hunt. As people say, if you like doing something, make it into a profession.
@@andymcneilly true that's why i'm thinking about being a mercenary in real life even though i have bad hesitation issues when it comes to people that seem good."
"Tired of killing for free he view mercenary work as a paid a vacation"
Makes sense to me. If you're not doing a job you love, why do it; and if you're good at it, never do it for free.
yeah, but it too hard to find a thing you really like to do
@@iagocavalcanti5277 At least, one that pays the bills.

"O little Pip it is much more than just killing! It has many complicated facets. I once toppled a fascist South African government in a day... It was set up by another in week but at least I still got paid."
I didn't realize until now that the Wild Geese were based on the actual Mercenary Outfit called the Wild Geese who were freaking insane and legendary.
Those boys who insult Pip are going to get flashbang in lunchbox next day.
what kind of idiot (even by kids standards) bullies a mercenary's son?

@@whydidyoupressthegokubutto3396 Pumped up kicks
I doubt children would know enough by themselves to know being a mercenary is bad. They probably heard their parents bad mouthing Pip and his family so they started doing the safe without thinking what might happen
@@user-pi3hd2bt3f that's a great point
I always thought it was a damn shame we didnt get to know Pips grandfather better. Here we see him in a peacful setting, enjoying his liquor in a warm light of dawning sun, stretching in his chair, gazing at the beautiful landscape before him. But damn, his presence here is the result of few generations who practiced a borderline suicidal line of living and who managed to keep the bloodline going. The package of survival genes he has from his ancestors is already making him both mentally and physically more suitable for battle than nearly everyone else. And to top it off, he's in his old age, outliving even his son. You can safely assume whatever default setup of combat prowess he started up with he developed and trained it to its very limit, backing it up with tremendous battle experience and knowledge. An old timer in a profession where people tends to die young, it does give you this horrifying realization of what a beast he is. It is a weird contradiction seeing him here, relaxing like that. The last Bernadotte who lived his human life to the end, with the time to rest and reflect on his bloodline and its way of living. And with little to no regret whatsoever. The scenery setting here fits him very well.
May be a bit late, but I agree with this entirely! I only found this show by watching the abridged version, but by god is the regular one cool as hell as well! Thank you for writing this enlightening comment, it made me look back on these scenes and gave me a reality check on how mercenaries think. I hope you have a great day stranger, I tip my hat to you and your wonderful thinking.
A monster at peace
RIP Mad Mike Hoare, the inspiration for Grandpa Bernadotte, dead today at 100 years old.
100 years old that bastard ha.
Wow, that's why the name "Wild Geese"....
"Little bit of tinnitus never hurt anyone."
Right? Would have appreciated a warning for that soundtrack at the end, or y'know... it not being that loud at all, Jeebus Christ.
@@NatyaVT It's a Helsing Abridged Reference actually
Archer is not pleased with this comment
"Deserve's got nothing to do with it, it's a job. Anyone who found himself at the end of my gun he was fighting for something - bring down a gouverment or prop one up, for homeland or someone elses, for family, for a woman.. maybe just food and drink. So many damn reasons, some good, some bad. A mercenary doesn't ask questions boy, it's enough to know the other man is dying for something, but that reason of his, whatever it was, was it really worth fighting for? Maybe. But who says you need some epic cause before you can shed some blood? Fighting for filthy lucre has always been good enough for me, pays the bills. Toss us a bit of coin and we will risk life and limb. They dangle their spare change in front of our nose and we come running, we march onto chessboards all over the world for mere pennies. Kill for em, DIE for em. But really, it ain't about the damn pennies. We go because we enjoy it. We fight for money caus fighting for fun is just too horrible to admit. Die for a dollar, kill for some kruna.. sign us up! We're scum of the earth, boy. With a legacy like ours, course they're going to pick on you at school. You cry but I bet you'll come arround one of these days. You know the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
Nerwik “You were right. It’s never been about the money. It’s always been about the fun.”
shadowknight1121
If you put some thought into it, this must have been a real thriller moment for Pip. He’s going around the world as a mercenary fighting, and then finds out he’s gonna be fighting actual Nazi Vampires.
This is a family of badasses if they can be mercenaries since before the year 1000 and not once break the bloodline
Joe Scirrotto i think the generation don't go so long as that, I think their bloodline as mercenarys begin during the 1600, where most of the wars where fought with mercenary companies.
he said 8 generations which isn't that long if you think about it.
Joe Scirrotto Technically PIP broke the line. But he was fighting Nazi Vampires.
@@pforgottonsoul grandpa's grandpa's grandpa's grandpa would make it 10 generations with Pip being the last
@@loganthekrogan2182 Technically Pip is still a mercenary contracted by the Hellsing organization, he just works for free now.
The best thing about being part of a mercenary army it's not having to worry that cigarettes will kill you. I'm willing to bet that Pip's grandpa was the oldest member of their family in the past eight generations, most of them probably didn't make it past their mid-30s.
It be cool if they did a series on the wild Geese.
Eddie Frangos unlikely, however based on the pictures alone I would be extremely interested
The creator of hellsing actually did do a manga about pips grandpa in ww2
Epic Zombie Doctor Actually it was more of a rough draft of pip
@@mixmaster3028 Alot of staff members of the show make references to the past works being slightly canon in diffrent ways and that was one of them. Maybe one day kota Hirano will come back with a few diffrent story of the hellsings univerese and back story. It would totally be cool to see how anderson became the paladin of iscariot
I would like that
I just love this monologue.... the kid is moral human reasoning.. and the grandpa is the answer to that reasoning. The answer a mercenary would give to such a moral dilemma.. is unique, interesting, niche, vile, morally-heavy... its such nasty subject.. and the G-pa has lived all the way through it. We get to see him at the end of that journey. Whoever created this scene is artistic story-telling genius
Who is it who dare to mock you? Is that zhe son of the butcher JEAN-PAUL!?

i love the writing in this anime, so many epic speeches from characters.
"We fight for money because fighting for fun is too horrible to admit." The tragic life of a U.S Marine.
The US marines dont fight for money, they fight for funny ideas of freedom and for the thrill of the fight.
DK eh, the first and the third one are more accurate at the core.

There are 3 kinds of motivations
Ideals
Money
Desire of violence
Every soldier have a mix of the three on diferent proportions for everyone
“We fight for money, because fighting because dad kicked you out of the house is just too horrible to admit.”
@@valentinov901i like that thought. Ima have to use that. Essentially youve described myself. I want to enlist for the love of battle and for the money. Ideals have been left by the way side for me. I dont care about that stuff anymore
Little Pip is so cute
Meanwhile, in the Kojimaverse
The next day all those kids "mysteriously" disappeared
Bullying a mercenary's son is just stupid
No surprise they found flash bang in lunch box
I love this scene along with pretty much all of this anime really. Just the raw honesty and truth behind it. It's really sobering but the weight behind it is just really powerful.
the worst thing is true because i asked a mercenary he never got ptsd for those who killed and saw because what he said was that everyone in that war were there voluntarily everyone knew the risks
so poetic. 😭...
This is the best cold open of all time, hooked me immediately. I wish more shows did this, it’s so annoying to have to fast forward through a shitty 5 minute music video before the show actually starts. Not sure why that’s still a thing when there are much better ways of doing it.
Pip"grandpa can I ask you a question" Antony"wait it it my grandson"pip"well it just....we French right" Antony"yes we are...why do you ask"? Pip"why are we talking in Japanese"?
such a good anime
Love all your videos dude, this is a good scene too. Hellsing Ultimate was one of the best Anime's ever made, only if there was another.
Are you sure about that?
Search Drifters, a episode is already out, it's similar to Hellsing just fantasy but all as bloody and crazy sadistic as a Hellsing episode.
Look up, "Hellsing: The New Dawn".
Damn I love monologues from Hellsing
Hunters, a true hunter there everyone. A merc, as most tropes goes, are soldiers for the hire. Be it for battle, private army, rescue, etc... Can’t admit to Joy for the cursed joy of the hunt.
The way his grandfather talked about all the people he killed and the death of his son shows that he’s at peace with himself and his life. It sucks that their bloodline died with Pip although I suppose he will live on within Seras.
Why does Young Pip look so much like Suzaku Kururugi? Also both characters are voiced by Yuri Lowenthal
That would be an offense to Pip's intelligence.
I said look like, nothing about intelligence. Pip is obviously better xx
oh roite

Oh, mon cher petit-fils~ I'm not going to do it.
I feel like TeamFourStar didn't understand the meaning behind this scene.
OVA 7 is both my favorite and least favorite part of the show.
Could be worse. Could be a 13 part anime that botches nearly every character
Pan Z What are you referencing?
he was probably referencing the Gonzo take on Hellsing, the one that made Jan and Luke owners of a prostitution ring, made most the characters into a single basic character trait, and had it end with a villain who was basically just alucard if he was a walking tumor with an even bigger gun chained to his arm.
Nakumare Nailed it :p
One of the things I disliked the most from the first Hellsing series was it's portrayal of Integra, in that she was unnecessarily mean to Seras for an incident that, at worst, could only be a passive mistake on her part. I wouldn't have minded this aspect of Integra's character as much as I did if the story actually went anywhere with it, but it didn't. In fact, that incident and Integra's subsequent scolding of Seras for it all happened in just one episode, as well as the entire plot thread of their relationship, so by the end of the series, I was left wondering why this cruelty was even there.
Just realized that Phoenix’s Flight plays in this scene, the same tune that plays during and after Walter’s death. Just on repeat and without the choir.
A fine memento to the wild geese movie from 1978.
He's absolutely right about everything!!! That is the true meaning of being a Mercenary!!!

Pip’s Grandpère: “Oh my little Pip, it is so much more than killing people. It has many interesting prospects. I once helped topple a Fascist South African government in a week. I mean it was replaced by a new one in two, but I still got paid.”

really?
ya most "mercenaries" nowadays are called contractors due to the fact that the Geneva convention considers hiring mercenaries a war crime and if you ARE a mercenary and your captured you are not protected by the Geneva convention so they could torture you or do what ever openly with minimum backlash
of course that dosent stop some places from subcontracting them i also find it ironic that the country wear the geneva convention is housed used to have one of the most saught after mercenary groups in europe the swiss pike men
dion woollaston its called hypocrisy because war can be a good business and mercenaries will always continue to exist.
Kuma Bear:3 Not hypocrisy, irony.
Is the work of a Mercenary legal in the world?
No. But it still happens. They typically call them private security forces now.
It depends on whether or not you’re working for the local government. The biggest problem is that the Geneva convention doesn’t apply to you. So if you get captured they can mangle you all they want.
