I have a similar camcorder with the same problem. Nikon VN-760 was a re-branded Sony CCDTR700. The corrosion is apparently just from decades of exposure to humidity. I tried to replicate this fix, but I couldn't get the innards to slide out, so I couldn't properly clean the connectors. But just the jostling of disassembly must have somehow fixed the problem, as now it seems to work OK.
My Sony TRV110 still working perfect too. Only had to clean the AC power socket with contact cleaner as it has been in its case for a while. The hand grip is still perfect too. Interesting mine has not had the ribbon able get cut though? I bought mine in July 2000. Its the PAL version but plays NTSC too.
The later digital-only Digital8 camcorders will let you record in LP mode on a standard Video8 tape. They eliminated the Video8/Hi8 detection switch since it was only necessary for analog playback.
So glad to see you're still frequently uploading! I have a camera that may or may not be faulty (tapes arrive tomorrow), and if it is and its something I'm unable to fix myself, I'd love to send it over to you! Hope this would be a possibility
Thank you, I've learned a lot from your videos. I have a Sony CCD TR70 that won't latch when I push the cassette tray in and therefore won't close. I can't seem to identify where the actual latch is in the compartment. Are you able to point me to that location?
What are your thoughts on putting a little dielectric grease on those connections after cleaning? I find it helps both in home electronics and automotive connections repairs I've performed. The "Wet Coast" is horrible for corrosion and fretting. Great info on your vids and happy to see a fellow lower mainlander having fun with this stuff after so many years on the bench. Keep it up 👍
I have a TR81 as well which I have sound but not Video, so I check out the Capacitor on the Video board and found both the 220 uf 4V and the 33 uf 4V were bad so I replaced both of them. well it worked I was able to get a great picture, well with my luck it only lasted 2 hrs and after that nothing no picture and no sound any idea ?
I've got this exact model and it won't load tapes. Without a tape in it will close and lower the mech but ejecting again it gets stuck near the top. You can see a small white gear in the bottom right spinning and the larger gear above it vibrating. I'm guessing some teeth have stripped? This is my 5th camera, I just want to watch some tapes :(
Hey there, I have a question for my grandma's cam corder, I believe it to be the same one as this one. I didn't know if you still use this channel or not. It's a Sony model CCD-TR23 VIDEO 8 Handycam 1995. The cassette area opens and closes, plugs in. All buttons work however, when cassette is in place, says all 0's on top, won't rewind, play, or ffwd. The cassette does move on the side when rewinding but then suddenly stops, and shows a house like looking symbol. Is this similar to what's wrong here in the video? Help! Haha. Ps. Just seen you are still active on here. Hopefully you see this! Thanks
Thanks a lot! Your advice helped me save my CCD TRV418E from C

Thank you so much! It seems like i also had a loose connection and i can finally digitise my old tapes ❤

Externally it looks like that thing has seen very little use. Not all beaten up and sticky
I have similar camera with no playback. Is it the same connections to check? Thanks for your help!
Some people would say the design of complex flat cables is ingenious, but I would rather say terrifying at times.
I just ordered my very first vhs c camera looking forward to it. I only just had vhs cams before

I have problem with sony ccd tr570e. The tape drum won't turn when the tape hits the head. How to fix it? Is it enough just by cleaning the connector?
Yep ribbon cables are a pain in the butt on any product.

Great video, I appreciate the knowledge. I have the same camera, my issue is that my tape will not load. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Quick question I have a bunch of Digital 8 Video GVD-800 Walkmans. Just wondered if they can suffer from the same edge connector problem too?
The deeper the disassembly gets the more I wonder if it will ever go back together again. Stay tuned to the end of the video. Mine has the same issue.
