From the late 90s into the 2000s I was using those because they were all we had, when I was in my 30s. As much as I agree with you on the vintage look and as much fun as I had, I don't miss the technical and mechanical issues like you described having, which I used to frusterate over. I couldn't wait for the simplicity of the age we live in now. I love what I have today, and it's not fancy or expensive.
These older handycams are such a vibe and they make new things look old if you get the right setting.
Don't buy one, go find one in your parents closet
Literally just pulled this from my closet
Found my grandfather's camcorder, and that's the reason I'm watching this video now
Literally just did this
Literally
They sold it
Bro this was really well put together, thorough, jam-packed with knowledge, and very straightforward. Thanks a lot my g🙏🏾
the rode imo sounds worse than the in body cam mic lol, thats nutty that they got the mic to sound that solid. Tbh the sound has a great characteristic that i would just use it for its mic capabilities
The rode sounded way better dog
I get what you mean, but I think the rode picked up a lot more of the fine detail and it can be equalized a lot easier later on down the editing proccess.
might just be ur preference. the mic picked up a lot more than in body
Loved this video man! Got me hyped for my camera to arrive
Awesome video dude!! I'm obssed with cameras, but especially with the retro stuff. They're the best! Your video gave me a wonderful 90's - 2000's vibe lol. I've been trying to track down some of those old cameras on Ebay and other websites but couldn't find it anywhere, the only ones I could find were from people trying to sale them for absurd and unfair prices.
i remember my moms had brought me a vhs camcorder when i was a kid, and i fell in love with it. looking at these makes me wanna get an older cam corder, appreciate this video man- amazing run through 👏🏽
That’s dope🔥🔥💯 and thank you🙏🏾
I have one of those Sony cameras. I bought it new, so thanks for making me feel old 😂
I also have an even older Video 8 camera somewhere. Fun fact - you can use the Sony camera to take tapes from an older analogue Video 8 camera and pipe it into a Firewire capable computer. It gives a more stable input than using the phono cables!
I must dig these relics from a bye-gone age out.
Noice! People keep saying to get a firewire cable. Im gonna check that out for the next time i transfer some footage. Thanks for checking out the video and dropping some gems for information 💯🙏🏾
these camera's are NOT relics. Just because people today don't use them anymore, does not mean they are relics.
I still have (2) Sony MiniDV camcorders. One still NEW in box never opened and the other is still working. Tapes that i recorded 22 yrs ago still play today.
@@ACommenterOnUA-cam you selling them?
@@noslimes9628 no
I have a TRV310 kicking around, thought about getting rid of the thing but thanks to this video I think I will keep it, also Digital8 cams have firewire ports like another commenter said those are better for transferring the video footage over to the computer than analog connectors
Fun video. I have old Panasonic I used when I was a kid. A gift from the past(my dad's). Thanks for making it.
I can say for a fact the XL1 and GL2 are amazing ergonomically and the footage isn't too bad
🔥🔥
Gl2 is amazing lovee mines
Those were the days when the 8mm first came out. 120 minutes of tape time, digital and in a smaller cassette too. No more VHS. I have two similar cameras like yours and about 6 mini DV cams I've collected from thrift stores. I know their limitations but I just can't stop using them and that's where a lot of the fun lies. I also love the eyepiece better than just a viewscreen which is difficult to see in daylight. Good video, thanks.
these things are definitely great buys for sure! And yes, the eye piece is definitely 10x better to look at!
Awesome presentation!! I also love this cameras, I remember how expenssie were this at the 90's !! Now I got a professional level Hi8 Sony camera for less than 100€ ... it's awesome, every video transmit that "memory" feeling (my english kind of sucks but you know what I mean). Enjoy it !! Cool channel.
BRUH. good looking OUT! great video, covered everything. about to order one of these jawns right now.
Watching you guys have fun was just as cool as the video topic
So first I found those camcorders like the slightly modern from maybe the 2010, but now, I just found the hidden gem, the camcorders probably from the late 80s 90s and it really gives that OG quality that I really love
Great Video Sir. Love your editing style and some of your camera close ups at 1.11. You have a new subscriber.
super helpful, great video!
Excellent video ! I play on getting a used one as well
I have a Sony TRV 140 and it still works great and I bought it new. I use the Hi8 tapes in it and I still record video on it👍
Radical! Great content!
Great video bro I needed this thanks
Thats a fetchin dope shirt bro! Not many people know who Forward Observations is!
In order to get high quality footage, do you deinterlace the footage and if so how/what program do you utilize? I’m trying to convert from 720p to 1080p if possible.
I still have mine that I bought brand new in like 2004 or 05 on my birthday. Ot was my first camera and still have tons of my old skate videos/CKY and jackass inspired stuff.
Inspired. Thank you
I have recently bought a Panasonic NV-M7 will be fun to record retro footage
Man, this was an awesome video! I had that camera, then the Sony VX1000 with the Century wide adaptor and we were making pro level skate vidoes lol!
Hi mate - I don't know if this has already been said 100 times but the liquid you need for the head cleaner is isopropyl alcohol - which is pretty easy to get hold off
yooo this video is fire!
I think it's better via FireWire than via analog cables when you use a MiniDV camcorder.
I love your energy
The camera I'm getting is one of those Sony digital 8 cameras with the firewire port for easier capture. Not even gonna mess with capture cards XD
Hell yeah this hard!! I need one ASAP!!! I want the handy cam but they expensive AF RIGHT NOW!!
I can't believe we label those camcorders "vintage" already. lol
LOL I remember when most UA-cam videos were made on one of these
@@tobismasher268 I remember that time before UA-cam when I literally had to download little video clips individually to watch and share them and put them on my cheesy website lol. Windows Movie Maker was all the excitement! But that's how I started.
Technology improves quickly, we can in a way say the same about phones
@JacobVideoGraphics True. For something to be vintage, it needs to be at least 40 years old. So from 1920 to 1970's.
In tech years, that is a looooonnngg time ago
Nostalgia my mother used to love this video recorder
Hi, and thank you for sharing this with us, I have a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV340, and I still use it today, I think it takes really good videos.
i still have a sony dcr-trv11 and trv30 that still function. I got video's on there from 2000 that still play
hey do you use a pc and if so how did u convert the footage on a windows pc?
My man, this camera can be connected to old MacBooks like pro 13 2012 by the FireWire cable, without any rca usb connectors :)
fire, I need one asap
Sick video dude
Clean & Very Insightful Video Bro.
Preciate you brodie🙏🏾
3:50 makes me wanna have internal mic audio for nostalgia again
Dope video my boy
Great vid love your style bro!!!
Thank you💯💯
So... the Digital 8 camera doesn't have a way to get the footage off of the tape in a digital format? You still have to go through analog cables? No Firewire?
2:45 .. gotcha bi--h lmaoooo i know that feeling
happened to me after i bought i point and shoot film camera on eBay
Dawg i was hurt🤣🤣🤣
i bought a video8 handycam for $4 untested and, to my great surprise, it works great !
just need to get a new battery and some tapes and i’m good to go. :-)
it also came with the original receipt from 1993! not to mention the fact that it was from the now defunct circuit city chain. pretty cool !
$4??? Cant beat that! And it worked! That’s dope man!
The original receipt is pretty cool to have too!
thats amazing bro🤝🤝
Where?
What do you think of the Sharp Viewcam VL-NZ100? I have one. Should I keep it or sell it?
Great video bro!
Preciate you always broski!!
Could you recommend any camcorders that are digital but still give the same nostálgic feeling.?
Bro yo edit is hilarious 😂 nigga hit the fort nite dance
sick video man
Yo I got a Sony handycam DCR-SR42 and I was wondering what kind of sim/memory card I can buy for it?
bruh subbed straight up off the intro and edit. So good
Preciate the love!💯
Got one!!!
straight forward, to the point, good tutorial and entertaining, love this video I'm planning on buying one cause i wanna shoot music videos
I want to get a panasonic 7 (I pesonaly like beefier cameras), do you have any tips?
Bro what the heck I was just watching this cause it looked cool, was not expecting to see myself!! Great video man
Dude you literally inspired me to do this video! Love your content and thanks for checking out the video!
@@VizwayMedia so wild dude! Where y’all based? We should meet up and shoot something!
@@ZachMayfield im in the air force, so im out in New Mexico right now, but im moving out to Texas in a few months. A meet up would be dope!
@@VizwayMedia So cool dude. I plan on taking a texas trip at some point anyway for another collab so we'll have to stay in touch!
@@ZachMayfield sounds good man! I'll just hit you up on IG when im out that way
Hey! I just got the Sony 560x what is the difference in quality? I saw a video on Sony 76x, 360x, and 460x but not 560x. I have been trying to find a video review on my specific camera "breed" but could not find anything. Can someone help me understand the differences?? Thank you in advance!
I have a Sharp Viewcam sitting in a bag. Might be time to dust it off and put it to work!
It’s definitely that time!💯💯
Amigo tengo una camara de esas Sony hi8 y quiero saber si vale y como lo puedo vender... lo tengo con su estuche pero solo la cámara... le falta batería.. está en muy buen estado....
If you're going to drag a massive camcorder around with you, might as well make it a Hi8 or Video8 one to get the analog feel.
about to buy you have any brand recommendations?
Yeah and one that has the unmodified nightshot for xray vision 😉
@@LardDoesItRight ccd-trv99, that's the ultimate one. Make sure its unmodified where you can control the exposure completely while using nightshot.
@@danielrudolph3252 That's the one I ended up getting. Been filming everyday. And making it work with only two tapes I just transfer the footage as I go. Very happy
@@LardDoesItRight Nice! It's really a fun camera to play with. I also like the ccd-trv85 because my parents had that one when I was born (and it was unmodified too, manufactured January 1998). Still have it, but it broke. I got a couple other ones though in near MINT condition of both of those models, and they are awesome! The TRV-99 has more bells and whistles though.
I had one of these and door kept popping over getting tapped pulled out and everywhere. I wasn't too thrilled with the 240p image quality when I converted old video tapes.
Have any of you used one of this Hi8 handycams before? 10/10 highly recommended!🙏🏾🖤
I have that Sony cam… cept mine’s a mini DVD. I think it has night vision as well. I was trying to get rid of it. It’s like new. Adorama web site was offering to buy any used Sony gear. …
Ehhh options. But nice video!
Kinda nudging me to maybe hold on a little longer.
👍🏻📹
Hey man I was thinking abo it buying one of these cameras do they really look genuine n which one do u u use
I appreciate you bro. I’ve watched so many video telling me to download different software. All along I just needed to go to quick time later smh. You got my like and sub fosho.
Yesssuhhhh! Preciate the support. Some people say do firewire for “higher quality” but I honestly do not care🤣 i want it to look vintage and low quality. that’s why i got the camera in the first place🙏🏾
@@VizwayMedia EXACTLY. I got it for like a vintage B cam. If I want the high quality footage I’ll use my up to date camera which has 4k… much respect keep up the good work.
What is the difference between a Sony hi-8 cam (analogue) & the "Digital 8" Sony? Is the Digital 8 better? I think the Sony hi-8 analogue cam records a signal of 520i ?... 🤔than Digital 8 must be ??
There's something romantic about film. Buying it, peeling the cellophane off the case cover, labeling the tape and the tape case with the included stickers, opening the door, inserting it, and closing the door. The feedback from the touch and sound of operating it feels GOOD.
It's not film though, it's still digital....
For me, I have 2 video cameras that our family has, both of them are busted ,One of them VHS C, another Mini DV, I want to get my hands on a functional video camera so I can go around my city filming, where can I find some low price but functional video cameras?
nice, I love my old TRV-420
Noice!!
I've plenty of 8mm cassettes. My Handycam Sony is 100% analogic (1995). Unfortunately, when playing the sound doesn't work.
I need a second hand camera to play and to transfer the video to my laptop.
There were some Hi8 cameras that wouldn't play 8mm tapes recorded on the previous basic 8mm system.
I remember that some Sony Digital8 (2003) were able to play 8mm tapes and it had the cable to transfer the video to PCs. I wonder if someone could let me know the correct model, please.
Is there any other better option to transfer the 8mm video to a laptop?
Thanks!
Really nice video bro! Just doing it your own way is the best!
Absolutely!
Would the battery linked work for a DCR TRV 310?
The fluid in the tape cleaner kit just evaporated.
Definitely. It wasn't a scam.
The Dave Gotcha insert was sooo unexpected and perfect timing..... Made my day #TheLittleThings
🤣🤣🤣 bruh, dave has the best snippets! Preciate you for watching 🙏🏾
No matter what you record with the analog camera, you would get a 90s hood footage
what battery does it use? my grandfather have this and he passed away, than I got this camera, but it doesnt come with the battery😢
2:40 that fluid is acetone. you can use any type nail polish remover without perfume and additional skin care stuff, plain old acetone is fine. or regular isopropyl alcohol is fine too. how do i know? I am 51yrs old :))
maaaaan, i really had no clue until after i posted the video haha. I could have saved a couple bucks since what I got was empty!
I found one in my cabinet 😀 turns out my dad used to vlog
Lol mine too, he gave me his so I’m trying to learn how to use it 😂
My parents still have theirs, theres still footage on it also. Might have to have a look at it soon as theres lots of memories on it
Definitely should take a look at it to relive those memories 🙏🏾
i got MiniDV tapes from 22 yrs ago that still play good AND have vcr tapes from 32 yrs ago that still play
i have my tapes too, there's 15 of them
I recorded my children from 2001 until 2011 on 8mm tapes. Just bought me a refurbished sony hi8,a dude in Florida, he refurbished and replaces heads
I have that exact model 😀
I have a working Sony Hi-8 handy cam a working Sony HC-9 HD mini Dv handy cam and a Canon Vixia R300 small camcorder. So if I ever need a genuine vintage look I'm good. Oh I forgot to add I have 2 working Super 8mm Film cameras. But to get a genuine vintage look for cheap. I put my old Minolta or my old Canon FD mount lenses on my Canon 90D ormy Canon R7. It might still be shot in 4k digital. But the video has this organic soft focus look that's still genuine through those old Manuel lenses.
Kids : but my grandma or mom already has one in the attic
sick FOG shirt
I have a issue where I play the tape back and it’s says “ emergency eject “ can you help me with that ?
I had this camera back in the day. However, they break easily and you need an old-school computer and software that has firewire to get the footage
They are super fragile! Gotta be careful not to drop them or it’s over!🤣🤣
I have a panasonic vcr made in 2005 that will accept a RCA video input and it will record onto a VHS tape OR DVD OR an SC card.
I still have one in my collection and it still works
NOICE! I’ve been getting into point and shoot film lately. It’s cool to see all these older cameras make its way back into today’s creative space.
cool man!
yo what exact model is the sony cam?
The built in mic sounds better. There's a high freq ringing noise with the Rode mic. Maybe an external recorder would be better with the external mic?
My EasyCap capture card doesn't show up in QuickTime, I have to use an app called USB Camera in my Android with an OTG adapter
I feel like the crackly audio from the in-body mic adds to the aesthetic imo
1000% agree witcha! I was just curious to see how it would sound
dude, you saved my life. My dad used to use these type of cameras alot. So I wanna get back to using it and also backing up all of our old home footage. Thank you!!!!
LETS GOOOOO! Go back those tapes up! Priceless memories right there 💯💯
If you use the Sony brand shotgun mic, you won’t need to use an audio cable. It attaches via hot shoe. Also, it’s better to export video from the camera using Firewire instead of the analog RCA cables. I have the same camera-bought it new in 1998. Still works great.
Great tips! A lot of people have mentioned firewire as well so I gotta check that out!
Hi!!!! I know this video is older so I hope you see this I really want to get one! Do you know how long I can film on one of these cameras like 20-30mins or shorter?
thanks for the comment! The camera i got can record up to 120 minutes of video footage with the Hi8 tapes:
amzn.to/3ESOLnt (this is the tape i bought from amazon)
Cool video bro.... I like this channel
90s look!
