I wish we had a show like this nowadays with social media. I think there are so many people in the world who see others' seemingly perfect families who are all crumbling behind closed doors.

i would love to have her to help fix my family. i related to this episode quite alot but in my home its a lot more gaslighting and deflecting blame onto others. very much lack of accountability

This mother is miserable and needs a lot of individual therapy. Kudos to her for trying but she has A LOT more work to do. She has a lot of childhood trauma and she's inflicting it on her entire household.
I got that vibe just from watching the intro (which is where I'm still at, haha). I'll be interested to see how it pans out.
EDIT: now that I've watched the whole episode, you couldn't be more spot on. I think she also has some resentment and anger built up from her own childhood, and really does need to do some work on herself, by herself, with therapy. I agree it's also impressive that it was clear that she was making a real effort, and clearly wants to change. Some more therapy would make this oh so much better for her, and the whole family.
I agree. She's going to relapse if she doesn't. She shows a lot of narcissistic behavior
@@mysticseraph2213 Her "making an effort" could've easily just been a show for the camera, too. But she seemed to admit that she has issues which is a plus. She definitely has a lot to work through, though.
@@Dreamr4life1 Yeah, and it's clear this didn't start when her man cheated. Her daughter even said that she's been that way since she was a kid. The guy probably cheated because of the way she is, honestly (not a good excuse, but still).
She’s very damaged, really hard.. damaged her kids. She should never have had kids. The men shouldn’t have given her kids.. She’s has ruined countless lives.. I know, my mother was the same.. vile
You can feel the bitterness and hatred oozing from the mum. She looks livid on a constant basis
3 minutes in, all I can hear is how angry the mother is.
I thank God for Jo Frost. There's no telling how very many lives and families she has changed for the better!

Yes she didn't need to say that with her kids. She is very blessed as her kids are great people and she wasn't the one to make that happen as much as Chris has. !
Having to learn that the reason your mom never gave u love is because she can’t even love herself and therefore will never show u love and express love … is a hard lesson to learn to a kid
I’m 29 and I think about this often. I know my mom will never love me, and I feel bad about it. Knowing mom doesn’t love me since birth but being in the same house was torture. As an adult I feel bad for her now. I wasn’t loved and I know how to express it still. She could at least try before one of us dies.

Exactly. Mum talks in such a gendered way, saying that her husband should be doing ‘manly things’ and how her daughter isn’t acting like a daughter, but like a son. It’s as if she doesn’t see them as human beings, just gender stereotypes.

First time I’ve seen the mother be the biggest problem. She is an emotionally immature parent. Kids usually end up no contact with these people bc they are exhausting to be around

it was the mother's decision to let him in. obviously she feels like thats all she deserves. imo both had their own faults but seemed to learn to overcome it. i would never stay with someone that i cant fully trust, thats what makes a relationship in the first place.

She said she supports her daughter being a lesbian but she clearly doesn't. She's okay with her being a lesbian as long as she doesn't do anything lesbian-like...such as looking at other girls. She's stuck in gender roles instead of accepting people as they are. She's projecting so much negativity onto her family

It's hard to judge a couple's relationship because there are always two sides but the cold and indifferent way she treats her children is disgusting. Everything is about HER. The daughter said she's been like this since she was little, so before Chris. She alienates her daughter. She is cold towards the son and speaks to him like a drill sergeant. Teens aren't easy but I see no love or warmth. It's very sad for the kids.
Just to be honest people have reasons they do the thing they do including infidelity, how justifiable those reasons are is debatable, but honestly I can see why he would cheat, and he probably won't leave bc he have to leave the kids, depending on the state they live in he might not even be able to tack the one that's his

Definitely! The daughter is intelligent, calm and speaks her truth. As soon as mum gets some individual therapy to address her past, I bet their relationship will improve ten fold. The daughter seems very understanding. I hope they will be okay.

What I see from this episode is a mother who doesn’t like herself, who thinks she’s better than her mate, has no respect for her mate, distrusts her mate, loves her daughter but doesn’t like her, doesn’t know how to show affection. She needs individual therapy. They need couple therapy and all could use family therapy. I commend them for agreeing to show the world their dysfunction. 👏🏽👏🏽

I think everyone is missing the fact that the mother is a broken human being with no idea what attachment is. That's because she hasn't had one in her entire life. I sincerely hope that she receives some help after this show to help her break down those barriers and let herself love and be loved

God she’s miserable. I have a mom like her. We’ve been no contact now 6years. Her favorite child that she always put me against also broke connection with her 2yrs back. Everyone take your trauma head on and deal with it. It’s not fair to traumatize others bc you yourself are traumatized. You’ll end up alone, sad, angry & miserable. Learn love. Learn to open up, give apologizes, be respectful & all that good healthy stuff.

Poor kids, definitely. But poor mum also - when she was a kid, she was treated the same unloving way. This stuff happens in cycles, sadly.
I feel the toxicity from this woman. She’s only playing it up for the cameras. If I had a mom like that, I would’ve left a looong time ago.

@@RaefonB It does happen in cycles, but anyone with average emotional intelligence would act the opposite way their parents treated them if their childhood was horrible. Not use it as an excuse to perpetuate it onto their own children.

Stay strong as siblings. Look out for each other and build your own family. What you are going through is not ok or normal. Also don’t feel the need to accept her physical touch. I love Joe but you went wrong there, that lady is toxic and the kids should not have to endure her touching.

I know how the mom feels I wasn't shown love when I was young only hurt and pain. It was difficult for me to show and receive affection from my kids and husband but I didn't want my family to feel the same pain
Thank you for being understanding. We only see how she is now, not the once scared and innocent kid she must have been to become this difficult, intolerant and angry person.

You should always strive to do better for your family if the family you grew up in was lacking in love and compassion, if you feel wronged by your parents and then act like them then how do you expect your kids to feel, I don't even think she cares about their feelings, so sad.
Exactly right,I grew up without emotional support,and not much physical affection. Just exposed to screaming, violence, fighting etc. But as a mum,I willingly give my babies everything emotionallly I never had. And as a result we are really close,and they're great kids 😊
I grew up with a narcissistic mother and sa by my father. But when I became a mother I did everything to let them feel unconditionally love and respect. They shouldn’t feel as bad as I did in my childhood, not for a second.
Now they are adults and we have a great relationship.

They should have this kind of show with real help and support for families that have older children who are from their later teenage years up to their early twenties!! Especially, with the generations who have become so dependent and fixated upon having such a heavy presence of social media platforms in their lives because sadly, they really do believe that’s reality and they don’t realize how far from the realm of reality and the real world it actually is!! Too many believe that they just have to have all of the most expensive and newest of everything and think that it’s mommy and daddy’s job to just give them everything they want for nothing. Too many don’t understand the reality of what responsibilities and what hard work is! Not all, but far too many!

i feel like these families use jo and her show as a last resort when the problem is pretty much cemented (which is a horrible idea). call jo when the problem is fresh so they can move past it. it can get better for a few weeks but i know the progress wasn’t long term

Both people in this relationship need therapy. The man for how to show up, maintain boundaries, yet realize the pain he caused. The woman to heal so she can show up with love. I don't like people labeling her, but her state in this is causing dysfunction.

I don’t think she’s evil maybe toxic because of her own upbringing!! I think the Mother faced some of her own demons and started to change because she does love her family. I loved seeing the change in all the kids because of her changes . I think they have a bright future if they keep loving each other
