Hair-lo curious creature - read on,
In case you're wondering, I've lived in 5 countries, including Trinidad. In this video, my new studio director gets me to talk like a Trini. I was born in the UK and moved to Trinidad aged 12. I spent my adolescence here and then moved to Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland. I never could quite talk like a Trini and have it feel entirely natural. Covid happened and now I'm back in Trinidad - nuff said! I hope you find this video entertaining. Can you talk like a Trini?

It sounds very much like a Trini convent girl so yes, yes it does sound Trini
I was about to comment the same thing lol
Thank you Love. It feels so not me but it’s also the easiest one for me to imitate.
@@chetwayosfitnessenterprise5472 😂 I have to work on it
Yes, Trini sound like they are singing. Such a sweet accent
Right?
Thanks 😊❤- a trini
I came from your "how i learnt Spanish in Spain" video but omg your trini accent is pretty accurate!! Love from Trinidad 🇹🇹🇹🇹
My studio director wanted me to try something different. Watch it with subtitles for the best experience.
@Nibbler800 I stumbled across a kind-hearted creative INFJ who does filming and editing. I'd previously had difficulties communicating with editors on Fiverr so having a real live person to help has made a HUGE difference. I'm in Trinidad - came for carnival and then COVID happened. How are yooooooooou??!
You look so BEAUTIFUL!!! I enjoyed this video so much! UA-cam needs so much more Caribbean youtubers! All I know is you, myself( from Dominica left at 5/6) and 1 other person. This was nice to hear!
In Jamaica they say "cockroach nuh business inna fowl fight!" My mother says that a lot! Whenever there's an altercation of some sort and the people involved try to get her involved for whatever reason, this is what she will say. Followed by "mi mah? Fi guh mek dem pick mi to death?"
You did good lol 😂. I could tell the difference but a non Trini probably couldn't
What differences could you detect? _Grabs notepad._
Your hair is Perfect!! So beautiful
Thank you so much, Love! Wow! What a mixture of cultures! Which one(s) do you identify with the most? I wish you all the best on your non-European language journey. Cool that you're learning French too! What will your methods be? I want to learn Yoruba and French next so we're on similar journeys. Thank you for all the love!
@@NaturallyHigh I started in school, but never became fluent. I'm going to use all the language apps and podcasts I can. I also have Rosetta stone. Once my schedule is more free, Ill put more attention on this endeavor and find more resources. I think its soo cool we are totally on similar journeys- I've always had a thing for languages and it really is inspiring when I see all you've done with yours! In school I had this dream to learn so many languages- I still do, its really refreshing to see how you've actually done it.
No, don't sound Trini to me, but does sound like grandma I save the seat on the bus for!😂
😆
Crapaud, corbeau are french words (toad and crow)
I know they speak creole in Trinidad like in Guadeloupe, St Lucía, Martinique, Dominica, St Marteens or Louisiana , would be nice to see a video on that too.
And i forgot bacchanal is french and still used in creole
I’m trying to learn Trinidadian Patwa from the few sources I can get to that are there: UA-cam, Duolingo (Ayitisen Kreyòl), and listening to my mom speak in a trini accent. (Mwen se 🇹🇹 ak 🇺🇸 so allyuh know 🥲)
I don't know that you were Caribbean, I'm from Martinique ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We also say Bacchanal in French and Creole
I’m of Afro Trinidadian descent 😊that’s interesting. Fun fact: in the late 1700s, there was mass influx of French planters and their enslaved Africans from the French Caribbean. Trinidad then became a majority French and French creole speaking island. Trinidad was ceded to the British in 1801. From what I’ve heard, the transition from French and French creole to English and an English-based creole was gradual. There are still people who speak the French creole - it apparently sounds very similar to those spoken in Martinique, Guadeloupe and St Lucia. My grandma speaks it. I didn’t know that bacchanal was a French word! It’s also an English word, though it’s much less commonly used. In Spanish, it means “orgy”.
Also, thanks for your comment!
Totally exact

I want to learn how to talk like ah 🇹🇹 when Barack Obama was President in my late teens & early 20s I met a Lot of Trinidadians 100 % black & 100 % Asian Indian never met 🇨🇳🇹🇹 in my life 😂😂. I look forward to visit 🇹🇹 & I want to meet more 🇹🇹 people talk like an 🇹🇹. Happy Independence day 🇹🇹 from Chrissy 🇺🇸🎆🎆🎇🎇🎇🎇
This was so entertaining 🤣🤣🤣🤣 as a trini, you did well
This was funny! 😂 But you did a great job 👏🏾!
Merci mon Chérie!
The older Black folks from the States would call a woman fast if she raced from man to man. Dat gul fass (Gullah)!
The younger ones call them a straight up hoe!
Great job girl. All Caribbean accents sound beautifully alike to my American ears. You did a great job though. I'd never heard of any of those sayings, although I sussed out the meaning of the champagne one, as it's close to the champagne/beer budget saying we have here.
You look gorg BTW!
The convent gyul ba ha ha ha at the end..... oh my goodness.... lolz rotfl
I like she
Here is one for you
Meh blood take yuh
You look so pretty!!!!
Thank you Love!
Yes your Trini accent is 👍🏽.
You sound like me in Ghana trying to speak my dialect. They tell me it's too clean. Lol
#crossculturestruggles
Sounds like extremely refined Trini accent 😁
I love the hairstyle
haha loved this! st. kitts in the building 🇰🇳🇰🇳🇰🇳🇰🇳🇰🇳
Yeah girl....that's a Sando convent accent you did in the last few seconds of the video.
NIGELLL! lmao lovely surprise there.
And good job on the slang =)
Glad you liked it!
Cockroach don't belong in fowl party. HAHAHA!!! Looking for trouble it sounds to me.
My friend messaged me to expand on the definition included in this video. I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Love the hair!!!
Thank yooooou!
I am lost with those sayings only understood chupid. It was interesting will you be doing other Carribean phrases?
It's never too late to learn! I'm not sure I will. Nigel will likely want me to but people haven't shown much interest in this content on UA-cam. The same video's doing much better on IG. Would you be interested in more content related to this?
The last bit was more Convent girl, which is another variant of the Trini accent. But good try.
Thanks for your comment. I was expecting that! Trini accents are so varied and individual. I don’t have my own Trini accent but this one feels easiest to imitate.
It sounds like a bishop's Trini accent hands down!
LOL! Makes sense!!!!
My favourite word is 'maco' (verb and noun) and the words deriving from it such as macomere, macocious. 🤣 I just love it! There are also sayings/phrases which are maybe more commonly used in Tobago such as a 'guinea hen bring ram goat story', meaning someone who beats around the bush/ has many excuses or lies instead of speaking upfront/ the truth.
I love 'macocious' too! I only know the word 'macomere' from that homophobic song, 'Macomere Man' by Olatunji. Does 'macomere' have another meaning?
I love that saying, Korrie! Thanks for sharing it!
@@NaturallyHigh macomere as I know it, is an endearing term used to describe a woman's female best friend (origin of french creole macomère). I completely forgot about Olatunji's song which I find very disgusting to say the least...
I love your necklace. Do you mind sharing where you purchase your necklaces?
I got this set at Esprit in Switzerland.
Thanks 😊
I LOVE your hair style 😍😍😍
Thank you Love!
In some parts of the States, you would call someone a horndog. Usually white folks would say that.
Oh yeah!!! I’ve heard that too! I’d never made the connection... mind = blown. It’s the same expression in Spanish too “ponerle los cuernos a alguien” means “to put the horns on someone”.
@@NaturallyHigh wow! Put the horns on somebody!! 😄
OUTTA TIMING!!!!! BAHAHAHA!!!!
You’re having the best time! 🤣

@Nibbler800 awwwww thank you! I've missed you!
No, girl. Just no.
Thanks for your comment, Sis 😘
