    Nailed that opening blues demo track! The bright cap on these vintage amps is much more pronounced at low volumes... once you go past 4-5, the effect of the bright cap becomes less and less apparent. Awesome amp for blues, country and some old school rock'n'roll!

    I can't afford to buy one of these so built an exact replica!! They are great!!! Mines a bit beaten up now been giging with it since 2009! Never any troubles except once in all that time! A preamp tube conked out! But I always have some spares in the back, so pulled it and pushed in another one! Good as new! I use it with an attenuator though 😃

    I absolutely LOVE this amp. Probably my holy grail amp. I am so glad you got a chance to demo it. It has such an amazing sound. For my uses, it is just way too expensive and I would never be able to use it even at it lowest settings. I keep toying with the idea of getting one of the Blues Cube variants to try and get that sort of sound at low volumes.
    For now I am just using the Fender 2 collection on Amplitube 4. It sounds pretty good, but for some reason, on all the amps presets, not just the Twin model, it has a super bright sound on the high e and b strings. Sounds absolutely great on chords and single notes on G string and lower. Plus it isn't quite the same listening to a guitar on a pair of headphones.

    • @tdunster2011
      @tdunster2011 3 роки тому

      I also have a Blues Cube Artist and Amplitube IV. Amplitube Iv is way better than the Blues Cub at capturing classic tweed tones. I run it through either some Yamaha powered monitors [HS50] or a small Roland KC80 Keyboard Amp. I don't have any of the issues you mentioned. I'm also using a Steinberg UR22 mkII interface so nothing flash - but it gets the job done so can't see any reason to change it for something more expensive.

    • @johncarpenter440
      @johncarpenter440 3 роки тому

      @@tdunster2011 I appreciate the feedback. I do think my interface is probably part of the problem. It is an IK's old Stealth Pedal. It gets the signal to the computer, but I have a feeling I am losing a lot along the way.
      I do want to upgrade my setup. But I keep wondering if I should go more towards upgrading my computer setup, or just go for a "real" amp. Realistically, something like a Scarlett Solo or 2i2 and a studio monitor or two probably fit my needs better. But the allure of a full size amp with a 12" speaker always has me second guessing.

    I had this amp for a week when living close to Thomann in Germany, but I had to return it as it cut out on me with nothing more than a hum. When Thomann checked it out it was working again sod’s law, but I wasn’t going to take another chance... The amp sounded faaantastic! I bought it thinking this is going in my basement and I won’t be moving it around, so it doesn’t matter that it’s very heavy. Plus German properties and they basements are built like a bomb shelter. But when I had to take it back UP the stairs to return it... That was when I realised how insanely heavy this combo amp is 😆 It definitely needs to be used with an attenuator too unless you plan on playing at gigging level all the time. By the way the $800 Tone King Ironman ii attenuator is very very good. Better than what Tone King put in their own combo amps as independent/isolated circuitry is built for each level of attenuation. I digress, but I wonder if I had the independent Ironman attenuator when I tried this amp, maybe the pure organic tones at a more manageable volume could have persuaded me to keep the amp. Totally impractical weight to move around but truly awesome tones.

I just bought an up to date laptop (out of necessity). But maybe now I'll be able to make some half decent videos and start posting on UA-cam. I got one of these used on a killer deal and ended up flipping it for a more modern take on a tweed amp that doesn’t flub out on the bass. This amp is killer, just needed a different take for my tastes. The Two Rock Burnside is filling my tweed “need.” Both are killer amps, but I can get the killer tweed tone at lower volumes with the Burnside.

    Removing one rectifier tube doesn't hurt the amp. Just remove the inner rec tube, (second from the left, while looking at the back of the amp.), while it is TURNED OFF and the tubes have cooled down (unless you like burning your fingers). Note: This will obviously reduce available power to the output 6L6 tubes, and reduce the volume. So much so that if you try and turn the volume up past 3 and you Power Chord it like Pete Townsend having a bad day, the amp will clip the signal significantly, and all you get is a farting / burp sound, which isn't musical at all. However, at volume below 3 it is a sweet sounding bedroom gig volume. In this configuration the 6L6's should last for a very long time.

    As for why you can’t jumper, unlike most amps where input 1+2 of each channel share a single triode stage, this amp each in
    It uses its own triode (tube stage), as such, jumpering from unused input on one channel to,the other wouldn’t complete a circuit
    To “jumper” channels, you would have to use a “y” cable
    As for the difference between the normal and bright channel, it will be more noticeable with the amp at lower volumes. Think of it like the bright switch on a blackface or silver face fender

    A word of advice from experience, get the extended warranty, and save the receipt in a safe place. I have had so many problems with so many fender amps I switched to Marshall. Good luck!

      Made in USA valve amps? Or made in Mexico valve amps? I've had several made in USA Fender valve amps for over 30 years, and not once have they failed at all. Yet... one set of factory Fender 6L6 valves lasted 25 years before indicating they needed replacing. I expect the filter capacitors will need swapping out eventually, but I'm letting sleeping dog do their thing atm.

      @@ianklauss4235 Yes, I have a Super Reverb from 1974 or so, still sounds / runs great. More recent Fender amps I have bought and had significant defect issues with include....Bassman reissue, Super Sonic 100 (all 3 of them), Hot Rod Deville, Blues Jr III, and maybe some I have forgot. Getting unskilled Mexicans to make amps IS a very bad idea! The replacement necks from Mexico are great. But I am done buying their amps..... Fender owes me some money!

      Check into the Two-Notes Captor X. It might be what you need. The Fender Tonemaster amps have their own XLR output that also uses IR's. These will generally give you the best results but the Katana and Fender Mustang amps are good options too.

    Close micing alone just takes all the life out of the sound and adds a thin-ness to the tone. A room mic would add some needed ambience. Great video though

    You can build a 5e8a twin for well under a grand. Soldering skills and some patience.
