JUST WOW!!!! How did i miss this song in my younger days, must have played it 200 times in the last week. This has got me dancing in front of the mirror at 54. Thank You im 19 again.
This is one of three ballad-style tracks released by Bomb The Bass around ‘91-‘92 - the only one that got the most recognition charts-wise was ‘Winter In July’ but ‘The Air That You Breathe’ along with ‘Keep Giving Me Love’ are all fantastic tracks to chill out to & all of which make you feel that you have disappeared & are now gliding through a 'happy place' dream world.
What an absolute masterpiece! Unlocks so many deeply hidden emotions and memories from my youth.. Man, with all the shit in the world today, it makes me long so much get back in time - yet I can't. Not many songs can trigger such deep emotions. I absolutely love it every time I play it!
Even though it's now 2024, I can't help thinking of COVID and the pandemic, when I see this video. Brings back memories of 2020 - some quite painful. But other than that, this is a timeless classic - so effortlessly sung. It's a beautiful song. I just wish it didn't make me think of the pandemic.
What an absolute classic, up there with unfinished sympathy imo just a shame the views don't reflect that, 38m vs 16k. Tim Simenon one of the most talented people in the british music scene over the last 30 years doesn't get the props he deserves. Agree with Paul Jakma the album mix is slightly better, those small differences like Kenji's guitar licks, i also spent so much time listening to the album, Unknown Territory = all time classic album.
This was a brilliant album. And who did the lyrics for Loretta Heywood's songs on this album? Cause they have their own lyrical style, different to the others - I wonder was it Loretta? If so, an amazing lyricist as well as a singer. Also, did Tricky or Maxi Jazz make any appearances in these vids? There's someone who looks a lot like Tricky in a number of Bomb the Bass videos. Is it him? Simenon and Tricky were part of the same scene in Bristol that led to Trip Hop, weren't they? Anyone know? Also, that guy in the corridor in the black jacket - hard to see - but almost looks like Maxi Jazz. Am I imagining it? :)
@@PaulJakma She is credited for the lyrics and vocal arrangement on Winter In July and credited as co-writer on this track and Love So True so I would guess she did the lyrics for those tracks too. The only connection to the Bristol scene I'm aware of is Tim working with Neneh Cherry, who had previously worked with Massive Attack but to my knowledge Bomb The Bass were primarily London based. As far as Tricky or Maxi being in any vids, I couldn't say for sure but that could well be Maxi in this vid...maybe you're not imagining it 😁
@HAL 9001 I remember getting the album for Christmas on cassette when it first came out, man I miss them days when music with substance, creativity and talent would get into the charts.
@HAL 9001 Yeah you're bang on the money there my friend, he's cut from that cloth when people were creating their own unique sound and not just trying to sound like everything else. Love all them other artists you've mentioned too as well as others like Soul II Soul, Massive Attack, Stereo MC's, 808 State. Don't think I owned Into The Dragon until a bit later but was well aware of the singles out at the time. Some really good songs on the 3rd album 'Clear' as well. I hope you did get round to digging out Unknown Territory again and if so I'm sure you enjoyed just as much now as back in the day 😉✌
Wow I remember this track was my first experience with weed when I was a teenager. I’ve never felt so at peace since then. No work, this track playing, stoned, a beautiful girl I was dating meeting up, a beer, my football team winning and gorgeous weather. Best day of my life I think. As I’ve got older I understand the WW2 and communist references in the video.
Brilliant. Though, I prefer the album mix. Only small differences, but I notice them - probably just cause I spent so much time listening to the album. ;) Could almost be a brief, flitting appearance from Maxi Jazz there..
"Tell me that you have never been one of them" sample on 3:05 is from the 1981 horror classic "Scanners". You can hear the source here: ua-cam.com/video/W2ZYTANTHWk/v-deo.html
I spent the last two days trying to track down the source of that sample! If only I had scrolled all the way down this list to read your comment my mental health would be better, right now! I remember being in my kitchen, about three years ago, maybe longer, on a Saturday night; I'm cooking and I hear that sample coming from the living-room TV where SVENGOOLIE is playing SCANNERS and I jumped-up and and went, "My God, there is the sample from "Air You Breathe!" I thought it had made a serious impression, but I managed to completely forget where it came from. I knew I knew, but could not bring back the source. Thank you!
@@dougneal85 Btw, I did a drum cover of this song, I thought you might find it interesting ;) It's on my UA-cam channel, you can check it out if you like.
And when I saw your silver hair I thought she was there I'm sorry if I stare But how could you know? Everything I see in you I hope, I hope your children do Inside, I shed a tear 'Cause now you're gone, I miss you in my life All that you ever need is The air that you breathe The one thing they can't take away The air that you breathe Another time, another place Would I see her face? I long to touch your head But how could you know? Everything I see in you I hope, I hope your children do Inside, I shed a tear 'Cause now you're gone, I miss you in my life All that you ever need is The air that you breathe The one thing they can't take away The air that you breathe 'Cause now you're gone, I miss you in my life All that you ever need is The air that you breathe The one thing they can't take away The air that you breathe All that you ever need is The air that you breathe The one thing they can't take away The air that you breathe
The second album never did as good as the début album was overshadowed by the gulf war in 1991. So anyone had a name like bomb the bass referring to war in the name in song title or band name were blacklisted from radio playlists political correctness gone mad massive attack shorten name to massive who spearheaded the campaign radio one.
Well, that's not that surprising given that this song and video date from 1991. Now 33 years ago ..and 31, since your comment. If she was around 75 then, she'd be 108 now!
Ouvindo esta linda canção em julho de 2024! Mais alguém?
30 years later and still sounds absolutely mind-blowing. Beat is tight as can be without interrupting the flow of everything.
Utiutiyty😮😅y😅u😅😮
Add three years since your comment. I agree with the sentiment. Excellent production on this track.
The very best track of bomb the bass. Still a breathtaking masterpiece in 2021.

51 here and it still gives me goosebumps just like it did back in the day.
Beautiful tune, brings up memories and emotions since I first heard it over 25 years ago. Still loving this Bomb The Bass Classic.

One of my all-time favourite songs - with Loretta and Bomb the Bass!! Totally Awesome!!
How this song didn't peak at no. 1 is beyond my understanding. It's my favourite BTB song no doubts
