Really useful and affirming video, thank you. I feel lost in my role as a manager. I feel like I need more from my own manager, but I don't know what I need so I've no idea what to ask for! Any tips on that please?
Bumpy road is right. When I first took on the manager roll I felt woefully inadequate. But I started to notice that each new challenge made me better, it made me grow. So now I embrace the challenges that come with the position, knowing that I'll be better and more confident as I conquer them. These challenges helped improve me not just as a leader, but as a person, and I'm always grateful for the opportunity to grow now. I read this somewhere, I can't recall where, but I'll never forget it because it resonated with me so much it was: "Life is like a seed that cant grow without fire. Without challenge, there's no growth." And this doesn't just apply to management. Taking a course in school that's difficult? Boom, challenge accepted. Having a hard time communicating with people? Bam, you can do this! The growing pains will pass and you'll feel like you leveled up to become stronger for the next challenge.
This video! Acknowledging in between efforts and strides gave me peace, as I also have perfectionist tendencies that often comes with self-criticism. I’m looking forward to checking out other videos! Thank you, Mak!
Hey Makeda, This video was just awesome ... it really answered exactly the concern I am going through in this phase of my life. how can I get coached directly by you ? You are a great coach ❤❤
Been so stressed out. The workload is crazy AF. My decision making is at its worst right now. My one-up manager can't seem to understand that i am a visual learner rather than giving me instructions. I got promoted as a supervisor/manager 6 mos ago but I'm starting to question myself.
I've stopped watching when she said that "Leadership and management can be learned." This could be true for management, but for leadership is nonsense. She doesn't understand the meaning of this word.
