Step 1 if it survived, eliminate Comstar interference. I'd do this with appealing to their wish to restore Star League.
Step 2: finish grinding down the Cappellans.
Step 3: reinforce borders and convince people this is the new normal.
Step 4: take bites out of the dragon at a controlled pace until it's time to kick the weak snake's teeth in all the way.
Step 5: take the samurai jerks off the board as a player.
Step 6: reinforce, repair, consolidate, and breathe.
Step 7: appeal to the other nations of of the Sphere to voluntarily buy into the greatest stability and prosperity since the Star League.
Step 8: wait for them to come, and only eat up their territory if they start fights.

It's ironic that Comstar was actively trying to hinder the best chance at the reformation of the Star League.
If the FC had won the war of 3039 the Star League might have de facto reformed within a decade. Comstar shot themselves in the foot and basically guaranteed another 3 centuries of warfare at a minimum.

Plus, Victor and Omi Kurita had fallen in love by the time of Operation: BULLDOG. Even if Katherine still takes the Lyran half independent, the Federated Combine could rise from their wedding, with a perfect causus belli against the Lyran Alliance, and Victor riding a huge wave of popular support for being the man who ended the Clan invasion. Either the FWL and Capellan Confederation side with Katherine -- highly unlikely for Tommy Marik, coin toss for Sun-Tzu -- or decide to back what is about to be a de facto new Star League under House Steiner-Davion-Kurita.

A few basic rules for the Axman (or any melee mech for that matter). 1) You are not invincible, even with an axe and an AC/20 odds are that an opponent will still be standing after initial contact and will hit back with all they got. 2) You're a fire magnet, most players have a phobia of melee mechs, so they start to pour a lot of firepower into them to prevent contact. 3) Charging headlong at the enemy from the first round, means rule 2) kicks into action towards your proverbial butt. 4) Timing is everything, better to pick off those that are no longer worth wasting ammo on than try to bring down Bob's brand new Atlas as soon as possible, or move tactically so the enemy has worse things to worry about, like engaging your Axman, while they have a Warhammer in their rear arc.
Same applies to mechs like the Hunchback or even the King Crab, most players will nuke anything that has an AC/20 or a melee weapon, unless they are really experienced and sacrifice a pawn to remove a potent, but not invincible weapon from the field. Rather than act like a mad berserker a good melee mech is an opportunist who will prey on the weak and finish them off, use cover to get close and remembers it carries ranged weapons rather than believe everything will be settled at range 1.

They did damage but went down with only one enemy mech immobilized but largely intact. The Axman cleared the board. Ironically without using its axe, though it kicked the head off one enemy. • @stormcrow28
      @stormcrow28 2 роки тому

Yes they do. Currently they produce the 6M, which adds in a 325 XL engine, drops the axe and other weapons for two T-bolt 15s with two tons of ammo each, 4 ER Medium Lasers in the legs, and a bunch of hand held weapons of various kinds. The other two are the 3S and the 3Sr, which switch to a light engine and keep the ferro. The 3S carries an LB-20X, Guardian ECM and 3 ER Medium Lasers, while the 3r uses a Rotary Autocannon 5, 3 ER Mediums, a Medium Pulse Laser, a C3 Slave and the Guardian ECM of the 3S. Probably the most radical spread of the Axman in the ilClan era is the 3S'move to general Periphery space, pirates, and the Free Worlds Leauge in the case of the Regulans, so almost everyone has one. After its sucess, everbody built melee mechs.

The main weapon was replaced with an LRM 20 plus Artemis FCS . The large pulse was replaced with a standard PPC and an additional medium laser was added with all of them being moved. to the left torso for 4 total AMS and case installed in the left torso help keep it safe a all ammo is kept in that location. Lastly added a TAG in the head because...well why not and I had an extra ton to lay with.

    Hello Red.
Yet another fine video. And one featuring one of my favorite designs. The AXM-5N is an almost 'perfect' design. And it can only be beaten by seriously degrading its electronic countermeasures to upgrade to all Clan Tech weaponry and equipment. Including Clan XL Engine, FFA, Endo, and heat sinks.
I see the 'all clan' version is polishing a fine apple, though. Although good to look at, and eat, it is only slightly better than the normal, unpolished apple.
The 5N, is well worth the C-Bills to gain access to one. And, if used wisely, can tip the balance of a battle with a few strokes of its signature weapon.
As others have said, you have grown quickly to become one of the 'go to' personages regarding our shared passion. You, Sven, and Tex still lead the pack by a wide margin. One that grows wider with each and every video you three create and share with us.
Keep doing your thing... I'll be here to watch, appreciate, and comment.

The Axman became one of my all time favorites because of the animated show. I especially digged the black and yellow camo paintjob of Adam Steiner's Axman. What a shame the AXM-5N is a much later era variant because imagine what it'd be like if Adam had that badboy of an Axman. The clanners would be watching in abject horror as it tears apart their mechs. I don't even think Malthus' Summoner would be walking away in one piece if it's not already reduced to slag. Adam can take down Malthus' Summoner in many ways with the 5N. He could use the clan er ppc to headshot the cockpit, turn it into swisscheese with the HAG, or just rip it apart with a TSM enhanced hatchet strike. Yeah I can imagine Malthus and the other clanner's would be calling the 5N a "barbaric" machine.

I always wondered why the Axman 1N had the long range large pulse laser in the left arm that was *less* useful in melee and the shorter ranged medium lasers in the right. Personally I'd have swapped them over, possibly even gone for small pulse lasers instead to make them even more brawl focused. The 2N is a better option but the 5N? Oh boy, that thing's a *MONSTER*! :O I'd actually forgotten about that one, thanks for the reminder :)
I do think they missed a trick by not creating a melee Crab variant though - call it a Fiddler Crab, stick a battle claw on one side and a point blank laser array on the other with maybe an ER large laser in the torso for some fire while closing. Perhaps a heavy variant to round out the family (although I consider the Marauder an honorary Crab).

Under tabletop rules, if you fire weapons from an arm or leg, you can't then make melee attacks with that arm or leg. Original has 10tons FF for 179 points or 17.9 per ton
5N has 12tons of LFF for 203 points or 16.9 per ton.
So for a 20% increase in weight it gets a 10% increase in protection? Wouldn’t it have been better to stick with the original FF armor for more hit points? Or just add 1 ton and use the other ton for something else?
Otherwise I love the 5N and the content, great work.
