These interviews are always a joy to listen to. What stands out here though is the way Stephen replies to a Brydon question by telling him about something a different interviewer asked him, then giving his answer to that question.
Couldn't agree more, I usually can spot a hair transplant a mile off, even the best ones, in fact I could probably tell you a few that's never came out and admitted it but I can just tell but Brydon is probably the only exception
It's a shame when Stephen Merchant is thought of as that bloke on the podcasts with Ricky Gervais, both men are extremely talented in their own right and the comedy 'hello ladies' created by Merchant with Merchant as lead is so funny and barely gets a mention. Great interview ✌️
Respectfully, Gervais' work in recent years has proven that it was Merchant who absolutely made The Office and Extras amazing. Gervais' recent work lacks the subtlety and intelligence of the early stuff
As a tall person myself ( 202 cm ) I can relate... whwn smallish people ask me if I ever played basketball, I always ask the if they ever played minigolf... It settles the score!
@@bobbyboko6317 I’ve not compared the two. There are similarities as Ricky Gervais has a very comedic and intelligent sense, totally unique from anyone else in this earth. Let me say incase you think this, I am not saying that there are no other people who have intelligent and comedic minds. The Office and Extras are polar opposite’s. Therefore one is not better than the other.
@@MrMedicalUK The Office is better because it hits on two levels, it's very funny but it's also insanely well observed. Extras has funnier skits probably, but it doesn't hit on the relatability note as much. The characters do stuff to serve a joke or a skit idea or a funny storyline, rather than having incredible realism as they did in UK Office. (in my opinion)
As a retired comedy performer, the worst part of dying during a gig was having to go to the bar to be paid, and the barman counted out my fee in front of the punters.
Ah, RIP the Huw Edwards impersonation, lock that up with your Saville impression, unless you are going for the docudrama of Huw like Coogan did Savillie.
Had the pleasure of seeing Stephen live on stage once. Can confirm he is very tall it's not all camera trickery. The Outlaws was a great show of his and also, I don't think it gets said enough... but I love his performance in the video game Portal 2 - another very influential thing he was a part of.
Steve's comedy persona from his early stand-up, reminds me of Rik Mayall's student anarchist persona.. The audience knows things the persona doesn't.... :)
I never took to "The Office" - I think perhaps I have worked for too many managers like David Brent to want to revisit those scenarios! Yet, I have loved Stephen in every other thing I have seen him in. Disappointed that Rob didn't get Stephen's take on guesting on "The Big Bang Theory". As a 6'5" person I completely share Stephen's dread of plane travel.
no it doesn't.. Ricky's early stand up sounds like Ricky's entire stand up career.. I've heard him tell the same jokes for over 20 years now! ..and it's largely from chats with Karl in the xfm days!
@@timothygraham4304 he needs to knock the trans jokes and cancel culture jokes on the head. It's all he's gone on about since 2016, and getting his phone out to read Twitter arguments on stage. 11:55 Streamers tend to get the same questions repeated to them aswell, they tend to start of with long and detailed responses and then over time optimize it to as quick as just a one word response. But these phrases you mentioned are more like small talk which usually is just there to convey their intentions and build a foundation for deeper topics, so if i was you and didn't want to talk to these people i would just develop a couple of pre-made responses to these questions and recognize that for some of them its an actually new question they are asking and/or they are just trying to communicate with you.
Omg you're the first person I've ever seen to use chapeau to mean bravo. Da iawn Rob! This series just gets better and better. Loved the impromptu slow talk, "royal hack style" at the beginning. Who needs a script? 😂 Cheers Rob, you very nearly cured Wales 0 Iran 2....but not quite?! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😂👌
I am moderately tall and went through that growing up period of every time we visited family or they visited us being told to stand up to show them how tall I had gotten. I quickly learned to respond to questions on the street as to whether I played basketball or not were best responded to by asking if they played mini golf. I was going to be a comedian but everyone just laughed at me.
Hey Rob, Hugh Edwards may not get the Royal gig anymore - think he’s having a bit of time off from The BBC at the moment to concentrate on his photography hobby.
These two need their own podcast. I think Steve has much more of a mature presence as opposed to his XFM days and Rob's maturity is already there. And Hello Ladies was utterly brilliant!
There's a real correlation between Bristol and comedy. So many comedians come from Bristol and surrounding areas. I imagine the slapstick festival has something to do with that.
