It would be nice to have a youtube option for the full episodes too.. even if you upload them as "unlisted" and link to them in this comment. Could also consider putting them on bandcamp at a quid a go or such?
It's his birthday.
Please do your Roger Moore. Coogan can suck it!
When is David Mitchel sitting down with you?
What about Rob Brydon AND...Adam Buxton?
Oh GOD. It's been a while since I've seen Steve, it's like seeing him for the first time all over again.. bit of a shock!
Had to do a double take.
Used to him again by the end of the clip
‘Eyes that pop out their ‘ead- Steve’
Eyes bulging with imagined riches
His glasses touched his eyes
" I just thought there must be a tractor sale .."
eyes bulging with imagined riches
Annnd there it is!
“Doing a Huw Edwards” hasn’t dated well as a phrase.
Anyone saying Stephen never wrote anything as good as The Office.....come on....Extras was a hell of a 2nd album.
Better
@@bobbyboko6317 I’ve not compared the two. There are similarities as Ricky Gervais has a very comedic and intelligent sense, totally unique from anyone else in this earth. Let me say incase you think this, I am not saying that there are no other people who have intelligent and comedic minds.
The Office and Extras are polar opposite’s. Therefore one is not better than the other.
@@lavernebell6274 Fair enough Laverne then let's just say I prefer Extras , but I do like the Office . 😀
Steven always comes across as naturally funny. Also seems like a really decent bloke, honestly wish him all the best. Same goes for you Rob ofc
50p
@@95Lodgey a more British version of 50 Cent?
@@95Lodgey It's not about the 50p
As a tall person myself ( 202 cm ) I can relate... whwn smallish people ask me if I ever played basketball, I always ask the if they ever played minigolf... It settles the score!
I always ask how the weather is up there....😁
"I'm surprised you're asking this though, Steve..."
Eyes that pop out of their head..... Steve
Oh he's done you again!
If the plane got into difficulty the cabin crew told everyone to meet at Steve when they land.
It's a shame when Stephen Merchant is thought of as that bloke on the podcasts with Ricky Gervais, both men are extremely talented in their own right and the comedy 'hello ladies' created by Merchant with Merchant as lead is so funny and barely gets a mention. Great interview ✌️
Respectfully, Gervais' work in recent years has proven that it was Merchant who absolutely made The Office and Extras amazing. Gervais' recent work lacks the subtlety and intelligence of the early stuff
I loved that show I was to my knees laughing 😂😂😂😂
Who thinks of Stephen Merchant as just that bloke from the Ricky Gervais podcast?
@@liamjones9115Yeah exactly, not since about 2005 or so?
@@ryanyates4124That doesn’t prove it at all; Gervais may well have gone off the boil since then. I take your point though
Stephen, I loved "The Outlaws" the story line, the acting, the mix of characters etc . . . Walken was wonderful . . Love from Thailand.
If Stephen was Italian he could be a Merchant of Venice.
There is such a special chemistry between you guys. Thanks for doing what you do!
I agree but I think Stephen has great chemistry with anyone as long as they're not being a a-hole. It's the type of person he is.
@@Elwaves2925 Agreed!
@@Elwaves2925 unless it's a woman
Was Steve a tall baby?
Mr and Mrs Merchant, you've given birth to a basketball player
"Eyes bulging, with imagined riches"
Fantastic episode. You guys should do a podcast together. With Stephen back in the UK!
I think Stephen Merchant having facial hair makes him look remarkably like Jurgen Klopp
What a way to insult a guy!
Rob's hair transplant really is a work of art, the best I've ever seen.
He pointed at the Pachino style in the brochure
He’s must’ve had multiple procedures done
Couldn't agree more, I usually can spot a hair transplant a mile off, even the best ones, in fact I could probably tell you a few that's never came out and admitted it but I can just tell but Brydon is probably the only exception
@@fookoff9220 Dec off ant and Dec's is good.

"Doing a Huw Edwards" didn't age well sadly.

Is that you Karl?
Imagined?
“MECHANT!! Who are you call sad?”
At least my mother still don't cut my hair!
Ooooh he's done you there
Stephen comes across as a really genuine guy you'd want to hang out with or have as a friend. Love his work, love his vibe.
I've never seen eyes that sore since Ren & Stimpy.
'What the weather like up there?'
'Better than down there.'
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Mr Merchant is
‘ Gert Lush’ 😂😂😂😂
A brilliant fellow Bristolian 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hide park, we can all meet back at Steve 👍🏼
Such a beautiful conversation between two amazingly talented people!
Steve trying to get tickets for Bruce again on air. Hope he doesn’t waste a balmy summers eve
Love Stephen Merchant. What a Writer and what an incredible actor too! He's little fat mate isn't that bad either 😁
Went a bit espanol at the end
Whatever happened to him?
Das Lanken Pissenstreak.
”What’s the weather up there.” Reportedly, one time Will Chamberlain got that question he spat on the person asking and answered: ”It’s raining ”.
Man alive what a bloke
I wouldn't paint a picture of that.
I love it when comedians laugh at one another.
And I hope that waitress is watching this.... we have a lot to thank her for!
Stephen is brilliant!!!! Think he's absolutely first class!! 😎👌🏻💯👏🏻
The Ryan air story was a right giggle... just visualising it 😆
Outlaws was as fantastic as anything Ricky's ever done.
Steve’s early stand up persona sounds like Ricky’s entire standup career
no it doesn't.. Ricky's early stand up sounds like Ricky's entire stand up career.. I've heard him tell the same jokes for over 20 years now! ..and it's largely from chats with Karl in the xfm days!
@@mikefry4567 I wouldn't say that, but he does need to knock the subject of religion on the head. I agree with his points, but give it a rest, mate.
@@timothygraham4304 he needs to knock the trans jokes and cancel culture jokes on the head. It's all he's gone on about since 2016, and getting his phone out to read Twitter arguments on stage. His stand up and Afterlife are some of the laziest attempts at comedy I've seen. Merchant seems to have kept it fresh though and has much more class
@@shauncowell6215 You're a wimp and deserve to be made fun of

These interviews are always a joy to listen to.
What stands out here though is the way Stephen replies to a Brydon question by telling him about something a different interviewer asked him, then giving his answer to that question.
Huw Edwards comment not aged well
Was about to comment that haha
I love Stephen Merchant and Rob Brydon❤
Disappointed to read that this is the edited highlights, as the only entertainment value for me was the third party heckler, related by Stephen, and that was on the thumbnail.........
Rob looks so much like a king on a playing card.
The only king that hasn’t got a moustache is the King of Hearts, on the playing cards..
"I've been doing a Huw Edwards" - Not sure he'd admit that today!
Thank you! A lovely interview!
Is Steve going to get his producer to source Springsteen tickets and then not go again?
Defo didn’t try and wipe a smudge next to Steve’s head
They didnt mention Greg Davies who is taller than Stephen or Richard…
Rob seems, very hirsute, dare we talk transplant?
Rob sounded more Welsh than usual
‘Rather like Huw Edwards’ has aged badly.
I should think Hu Edwards is still struggling for words
The hair, the beard.......it's Al Pacino. Rob that is, not Stephen.
Steve's comedy persona from his early stand-up, reminds me of Rik Mayall's student anarchist persona..
The audience knows things the persona doesn't.... :)
Huw Edwards reference has aged poorly 🙃
Ah, RIP the Huw Edwards impersonation, lock that up with your Saville impression, unless you are going for the docudrama of Huw like Coogan did Savillie.
If anything bad ever comes out about Ronnie Corbett then he's finished!
I think Stephen's bloodshot eyes tell us he wasn't late due to working on anecdotes 😅
Don't have a go at the eyes
@@shanustheanus He's had a stigmatism from the age of 5, so that's what makes them a bit bulbus.
wait 'til you see 'im without his glasses on..

Stephen should live in Croatia. They're all giants over there.
Huw Edwards reference not aging well!

Those eyes, I see why karl freaked out when he 1st saw Steve
I find it funny he doesn't remember talking about Bruce Springsteen in the first podcast he did with Rob.
Eyes that pop out their head… Steve
1:11 Sounded exactly like G-Man
The facial hair shows good taste. The Corden mug on the other hand…
I love the beards. Keep them
Both of you.
I got you the tickets Steve... And you didn't even bother going. And I got you that crate of beer. Ungrateful. At least you weren't given a game console without a RAM pack for Christmas.

You can tell they are genuine friends. This was great to watch
Rob Brydon is very good at affecting Hugh Edward's Welsh accent. Very authentic.
I agree, Rob is very good at affecting a Welsh accent............
I don't think that comment is very effective. I'm even minded to effect an air of disaffection for it, but perhaps that would be an affectation?
@@mustafa1name Did I use the wrong word? If I did, thanks for wrapping it up in a bit of humour
Seeing that Exeter is smack bang in the west country, perhaps Stephen's audience felt he was having a go at them personally; he'd probably have gone down a treat in Norwich!
Here's the clip of Stephen in his Dad's hat at Glastonbury ua-cam.com/video/2rBl-6vle_8/v-deo.html
Was listening to Stephen on a podcast, refresh UA-cam and here we are! Thank you Mr. Brydon.
Eyes bulging with imagined riches....
I'm going to see Springsteen at Hyde Park, I hope I don't get stuck behind Stephen.....
He slept in instead of buying a ticket so he's just gonna stand at the side of the stage and watch
I always liked Steve, 5ft9 he was relatable. 🇬🇧🙏👵
He's not been 5'9" since he was 10
Two comedy genuis's in one interview.... and the Tea mug of someone who isn't
Ha! Here to say the same… i did like ‘the wrong mans’, but you know who’s worse; Colbert switching from Comedy Central to CBS… Blech. Like Trevor ruining the daily show…
Opinions from a random guy in Montana though. ✌🏻🙏🏼
Portal 2 has given him a specifically legendary status in videogames too.
I never took to "The Office" - I think perhaps I have worked for too many managers like David Brent to want to revisit those scenarios! Yet, I have loved Stephen in every other thing I have seen him in. Disappointed that Rob didn't get Stephen's take on guesting on "The Big Bang Theory". As a 6'5" person I completely share Stephen's dread of plane travel.
...steve
bloody hell!! did they have to put the camera so close? 😂
I am moderately tall and went through that growing up period of every time we visited family or they visited us being told to stand up to show them how tall I had gotten. I quickly learned to respond to questions on the street as to whether I played basketball or not were best responded to by asking if they played mini golf. I was going to be a comedian but everyone just laughed at me.
Brilliant love Stephen both series of the outlaws were great comedy drama 👍
I wish Rob commented on what it’s like being at the other end of the height scale and getting short jokes all the time.. I’m the same height as Rob
Stephen's eyes were incredibly bloodshot! His writing is clearly very good, but I've never been a fan of his acting...
I don't know, I think he has been improving his acting over the years
Besides, he does quiet a great job out of his confort zone
oh no I was really enjoying seeing the trees waving in the wind and rain in the background and also knowing it was LA made it even better to know they get shitty wealther there too. Also didn't think the light was a problem...oh well, makes it look more clinical and deadens the atmosphere somehow. We know its not professional and its nice to make it feel like its just two blokes who are friends who might be talking to one another anyway even if we weren't watching...or would they ?!!!
I really hope you make the date for the Bruce Springsteen concert and that Rob does sit on Stephens shoulders and flas his boobs
Being in LA, I can narrow down to three days when this was recorded. It's not always nice and sunny, but it's not often it looks like that.
Please watch Stephen Merchant in The Barking Murders. He was superb.
