    When I bought my 460 I had the dealer install the same spikes, soon after I did the same with my little 260. Makes cutting thick bark trees a little easier.

      With the amount these saws cost both sets should come in every box.

      It's a worthy upgrade, the stock dog is a joke.✌

    What brand snap ring pliers do you have?

    When I bought my 460 a decade ago the dealer quoted me a price for the saw with a 20 inch bar. I told him to mount a 25 inch bar and the large dual felling spikes for the previously quoted price, and they did. You cant normally haggle in dealerships, but a lot of times you can add things for free.

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  4 роки тому

      Oh I got two dual dogs and roller catcher kit free, around here they normally just don't have that already on this all that's all I was saying.
      Thanks for watching.✌

    It’s definitely a different frame of mind in the Midwest. I got laughed at for having a 24” bar. No, not all of the trees I cut need a bar quite that long, but I sure do enjoy not having to bend over constantly while bucking.

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  3 роки тому

      It's definitely nice to stand up and buck. But with light 50cc saws I won't run anything longer than a 18" bar, zips limbs off instantaneously.

    You should try the 1122 hardwood dawgs, if you have not already. They are the same as the 1128's with a shorter bottom spike, same clearancing issue on the outer dawg.

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  4 роки тому +1

      I personally prefer the larger dawg, if these grab too much, or I get too much leverage I will definitely give them a shot.✌

    Looks good, bummer is you loose a little bar length,which is a bummer with a 20".
    I've got that same torque wrench 😂

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  4 роки тому

      Very true you do lose a little bit of bar length, but I normally run at least a 24" bar on saw 70cc or larger saws, I don't like bending down anymore.✌

    The bench your working on is that a custom made one or is it something that was repurposed?

    You would think that if Stihl made the saw and Stihl made the dogs for the saw...they should just bolt on. Are these dogs made for the 661 and just machined enough for the 462? I’ve seen some folks mention doing that

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  3 роки тому

      There's a smaller outer dog the fits the non wrap cover, but you can't mount a roller catcher. The wrap bar cover is larger and fits up with the outer dog without any grinding. I'm thinking Stihl just assumed no one would mount up the larger outer dog with the roller catcher. Makes no sense to me.

    Nice set of dawgs!! Would love to see them put to work!! How far below the chain is the tip of the bottom tooth?

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  4 роки тому +1

      I'll have a video of the saw in wood soon! Are you asking how far the bar is from the bottom of the bar/chain?

    • @307j.o.a.t9
      @307j.o.a.t9 4 роки тому

      How far the bottom of the dawgs are from the bottom of the bar/chain yes. My 395 had a set that was 2 1/4 below the chain and it created too much leverage and stalled the chain in the cut. Built a set at about 1 1/2 inches and they work amazing.

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  4 роки тому

      @@307j.o.a.t9 Just checked looks like 2" from the bottom of the bar. I have found that the geometry plays a big role, the stock dawgs on the 395 are not the best IMHO.

    Ive heard that the big spikes make it harder to move the saw around a tree because they stab into everything easier.

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  3 роки тому

      They can. These are for large trees with big root flares and thick bark, out west type of felling. There is a smaller set available, but without the roller catcher, though you could do some drilling to make a roller fit, I'll track down the part # and get back with you. Some are using the 064 spikes as well, here are the part numbers for that.

    Did you end up putting on another roller chain catcher? I took a screenshot of your video where you were holding up the directions for the roller chain catcher. It says 1122 650 7702. 1122 650 7700 according to my Stihl dealer isn’t even a part number. I did see 1124 650 7700 is a Stihl part number and is also a roller chain catcher.I put on the same one as you have in the video and the roller part won’t actually roll (as you said it’s too wide)...I have a lathe though and could shave it down a bit. I’m assuming it’s actually suppose to be able to actually roll on the shaft?

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77  2 роки тому

      I just cut it down, my dealer gave me the 661 roller, so yes it was too wide. It's is supposed to spin freely.✌️

    • @LeuCustomKnives
      @LeuCustomKnives 2 роки тому +1

      @@Andyshine77 ahhh thank you! I’ll turn it down a bit on the lathe. Wasn’t sure and and wanted to ask ☺️

    1142 664 0501 is the perfect fit. You don't need to drill or saw anything, just screw it on motorsaegen-portal.de/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102053&start=40

      Those are the small spikes without the roller chain catcher, the roller chain catcher is a must in my opinion. These were the correct felling spikes, everyone has the same issue, you just have to clearance the inner part of the spike just a little bit. I didn't have to drill anything.
