yah I love it, one of my fave Carpenters. James woods is the king in Vampires. Love his lines
30:42 Actually, that sounds like what an ex-military would try, especially if they were trained on old school communication lines. Up until the late nineties, the military used special cables that would literally work if two severed ends would just be tied in a knot. You didn't need to make metal on metal contact, as the signal would pass through the coating. We used to do that a lot in training.
Of course, you'd need to have some level of intelligence to realize that civilian lines are completely different.

I've waited for so long for you guys to do more of these books to the movies, especially Vampire$. I might want to give the book a read. I would hope maybe one day they will remake this movie. Because I just love the beginning of the film. Plus, 1998 had two big vampire slayer flicks, of course, John Carpenter's Vampire's and Blade.
Back in the day, I always added "From Dusk Till dawn" to this 'trilogy.' I accepted and believed that Seth Gecko, Jack Crow, and Whistler were all the same person at different times in their vampire hunting career.

They should have left in all the stuff about using Rock n Roll to scare out the Vampires. That's great!
If I had known 1/3 of the book was just gonna be Anne Rice, I'd have skipped that part.
-Side note: As a Texan, I appreciated the small reference to "The Church of the Sub-genius." Always good for an insane laugh, especially if you can get THAT book.
Ernest and goofy should be it's own genre. The book sounds great like in a 2000AD comic kinda way. Gotta check it out 👍
I freaking hated the movie after I read the book. It's missing so much. Steakley is pretty awesome and you should give Armor another shot.
Being a soldier unfortunately means most military movies/books are ruined for you especially if the author never served.

I liked the book, certainly more than the movie. You forgot to mention the overcast “stormy day” when they get ambushed. That scene was legitimately scary..
I rewatched this movie for the 1st time in OMGawd 20+ years. I forgot about the Mahogony talk...makes me wonder was James given those lines because his last name is Woods? Great episode gentlemen!

The movies aren't as trendy. They sacrifice a solid subscriber count so we can hear a pod about actual awesome movies. Unlike the soulless motherfuckers only subbed to Tony, living their life by 30 year old ad campaigns.

The movie is 1000% a western. The reason anybody does anything is to fit the kind of western John Carpenter wanted. He was inspired by westerns very much and this is the only time he got to make one.

The fatal problem with this movie is that it takes its hokey premise and silly elements way too seriously. Carpenter should have treated it like Big Trouble in Little China. There is a painful dearth of irony and wit. It feels like a SyFy Channel movie of the week with a big budget.

The title of the book Vampire$ should have had a sequel called Vampire$: Blood Bank. And Jack Crow should have had a brother that he never knew about and he would have look like Bruce Campbell in appearance and attitude from Evil Dead.
I will say about one thing from the film John Carpenter's vampires is that it is fun and entertaining at the same time with James Woods as he gives his own unique Flair on being a vampire hunter.
And just a little quick fun fact about the thing in the novelization called "who goes there?" there are in fact three survivors (McReady, Bennings, Barclay) and not just one. And the one that de-thaws the thing is Blair that releases it.

By the way if you want some of the original lore, like OG vampire story you can find a translation of Milovan Glisic's story - eng. after Ninety years. Serbian vampire, there is even a movie Leptirica which is here considered to be a horror classic.

Just wanted to let you know, Jack wasn't trying to stop Mexican Marijuana Smugglers. He was trying to stop a Cuban Heroine Cartel moving through Mexico. He met Felix, who WAS a Marijuana Smuggler... planning to get out of the game because the Cubans were killing all the small time "amateur" smugglers that wouldn't move their product.

I like both the first and second movie. some of the best vampire hunter movies. a t.v series would be nice but you can watch one like this called firebite.
maybe a vampires 3 when the black cross has day walker blood hidden inside the cross itself from the first vampire hunter priest. the real first vampire patient 0 who was infected but others who got infected and turned could not walk in daylight and burn.
scientist working with the hunters and church who are attempting a cure only have the pills that hold back the turn for so long but findout the secrets of the black cross and need to find it to hepp with a cure before the vampires find it and use the blood to walk in daylight.

I would love to see you guys do arachnophobia and for some reason I always think of the movie fallen with Denzel Washington which I also think is very entertaining. even though I'm not a religious person, I must have saw them close together as a kid or something because in my head they're linked. I mean John Goodman is a character in both. maybe that's why. and I watched Roseanne as a kid because my mom loved the show so who knows

I love the end of the movie. Even though it set it up for a sequel that never happened. The dollar sign would make sense if you did a modern blackrock kind of vampire organization where they sucked the resources and the blood out of everything

I have love this book and the other by the same author and have read them each dozens of times. The movie version of Vampires was disgusting and an attack on the source material.
There is an anime called Jojo's bazaar adventure, and I s*** you not. It actually has a vampire named Dio!! Who is actually named after Ronnie James Dio. So, coincidentally enough, that's a thing that actually exists.

Frankenstein$ Unbound
This was the 1 carpenter movie that I had never seen at first. Having seen it in full last year and yup....it was awful. Definitely bottom barrel of carpenters movies.
As far as Carpenter movies go, it’s def not the best. There are some great scenes, but the production problems really hurt it overall.

The title VAMPIRE$ pretty much explains why there's a dollar sign. It's not that oblique guys. And you keep trying to show you're smarter than everybody as you keep getting checked. The one who read the book knows what he's saying. Definitely a bro-dude book. The book is a comic book and so much more fun than the movie.
