It's called Katana Engine, and the first game to use it was actually...DW9! Koei Tecmo has adopted it across all of their major studios at this point and it continues to receive updates. Nioh 1 ran on Team Ninja's technology, but they switched to Katana Engine (or possibly some kind of hybrid) for 2. The engine's lighting, shaders, and post-processing--particularly the water shader, AO, and bloom--are very distinctive, at least to me, but I'm a longtime diehard fan of Koei Tecmo who's very familiar with their game engines (at least in terms of visual style, cues and developer tendencies.) I've always found it amusing how much Omega Force loves AO, ever since their previous engine was updated for 8th gen. The demo runs great on Steam Deck by the way, even has at least one custom graphics setting for it + a custom controller config. With Proton Hotfix and DRS enabled, I was getting a locked 30fps, and when testing it uncapped, it stayed at or above 40 at most times (and only dropped to the low 30s in the heaviest sequence of the demo), so assuming the final code is more optimized, it should be able to lock at 40fps in most scenarios. FSR3 makes the game look significantly worse without meaningfully improving performance (and the higher settings for it introduce heavy visual corruption), but funnily enough, XeSS partially worked for me, although I only tested the "Native AA" option. The framerate was in 30fps territory, but it did look quite good, so that's definitely a consideration. Actually, I'm going to test the other XeSS settings right now, somehow that had slipped my mind before. Fate/Samurai Remnant was very heavily optimized for Steam Deck, and its director said in an interview that the team are huge fans of the system, but I was still worried that Origins being a 9th gen exclusive (compared to Samurai Remnant scaling down to Switch) would make it too difficult to optimize for Steam Deck. I'm extremely glad that they went out of their way again, as I have no other way to play it. I am ungodly excited for the game, and I really hope that John will have the time for a proper full video on it, that would be a dream come true for me (I know that's a big ask though!) And one comment I want to make about the game itself--it's very close to my literal dream Musou game, a hybrid between 5XL's Destiny mode and Bladestorm, and I immediately recognized that from the reveal trailer. So yeah, to say that my excitement is through the roof would be an understatement. (P.S. I remember John saying that he likes the look of the engine in a previous DF Direct Weekly, am I misremembering that?)
I would love to see them make a new Dynasty Warriors Gundam game. The latest entry, Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn/真 ガンダム無雙) came out in 2013. In addition, I'm surprised they haven't done a _Warrriors_ game for Final Fantasy; especially when they made 2 for Dragon Quest.
My dream dynasty warriors would have branching paths in levels and things that would change depending on how well u did, i am not sure if they have done that before
There is some degree of branching, although AFAIK this is more determined by what battles you choose and completing bonus objectives within them (the latter being akin to DW8/XL's hypothetical routes) instead of dialogue choices.
The last great dynasty warriors game was Dynasty Warriors 5 because of its coop modes. I’ve zero interest in this game because it lacks any coop at all.
Had no issues on the XSX but since you want to be a butt to brag over an old 5 year console. Just know new Xbox will be out in 2026 which is less than a year and half of ps5 pro release date. New Xbox will dominate ps5 pro for 4-5 years. So enjoy this 1 year bragging for ps5 pro while you can. GTA6 and even this game will play much better on new Xbox than ps5 pro. Plus new Xbox will be capable of running steam games 🔥. Once PS6 drop in 2029-30 next mid gen Xbox will counter that again the following year. Xbox owns Playstation my guy.
Dynasty Warriors started on PS1 as a 2D fighter similar to Soul Blade/(Edge). The shift in gameplay style happened with its sequel on PS2.

Pretty sure they have
There were some kind of mods like that in days of PS2 DW Add-ons

bring color back to video games
I know its Japanese. But after Wu Kong, i can definitely see a Dynasty Warriors type of WuKong
John is yapping. DW has historically run pretty badly on PS2.
DW PS2 games smooth? When was the last time you guys played them? They were filled with constant slowdowns.
Lol that's what I was scratching my head about, like.... no, it did not ran smooth 60fps. TF are they smokin'?
Soooo Pro cant run performance mode over 40fps, base PS5 can yet theres no footage of the Pro running the game and dropping frames...baffling.
U hear from where? He literally said the 4k native mode dips to 48fps the base ps5 doesn't even have 4k native mode lol.
Just too many great games coming, I may get this later on discount

It did not ran great on the PS2... lol
DW has never run well on consoles.
Definitely NOT a return to form....non customisable main character...generic anime dude 😂
i played this demo yesterday for ten minutes. it was so bad i turned it off and read a book instead
