Fabulous places for a vacation! I’m there with you, for the serene landscapes, for your calm and warm voice and for your splodge and splash style of painting. Everything is so refreshing. Thank you Helen! ❤
What a gorgeous garden your in-laws have! 😍 You are so blessed to have such inspirational places to visit and stay. I enjoyed hearing the birds around the farm too. Lovely paintings! I love splodge and scribble. 😊💕
More oogling of the gardens...what lovely settings and I want a portable trampoline now to sit on when drawing/sketching lol. I love your travel kit...what a wonderful variety of materials to work with! I hoe late summer you'll do a full flip through of those three journals 😊
Enjoy your vacation! Thanks for taking us along on your paint sessions. That farm looks so lovely and welcoming and I’m guessing that Blitz is extremely happy to have you there. Love your splodge & scribbles and I always enjoy seeing what materials are being used. Thanks.
I'm really impressed with how the watercolor paints look against the toned paper, it's very striking especially since the sun is shining on them. Love your splodge paintings, having that little bit of added detail really finishes them nicely. Also, very happy that you played with Blitz, I bet she was happy too!
Beautiful relaxing locations to sit and paint! Lovely paintings too! Great selection for your travel kit. I’m going for a driving trip for a few days to stay in a cottage soon-ish. After taking a micro amount of supplies in a small pencil case on my previous vacation, I am taking the kitchen sink for a 3-day trip 😂. It’s so different when I have so much space!! I might only use one pencil, one brush and two paint colours, but I will have ALL the things I might even remotely think of needing 😅. (A definite sign I probably won’t have ANY time to paint 😂.)
Haha, love it!! I'm sure you'll enjoy having them even if you don't use them! I'm doing the next couple of legs of my journey on my own by train, and I can't walk with ease at the moment, so this was my version of 'light'!
@@helencryer That looks like the perfect amount when lugging things yourself on a train! Hope you have nice weather for your travels and fun scenery to paint!
As always really enjoy walking through nature with you. The morning looked gorgeous! Like the way you colour shapes then build up your sketches that become little pictures! ( Also, when you do the Cornish cliffs & beaches! ). Enjoy your break.
When I see 'Splodge and Scribble', I cheer Yay! Your pictures çome out so well. The farmhouse is especially lovely. Interesting to see what youve taken away with you, and I really ought to use the gelatos at the bottom of a drawer in my room. Enjoy your time away, and the sunny weather were having. Finally!
Hi Helen, lovely video as always! I’d love to see a splodge and scribble of the front of the house at your friends, it looks so pretty. Thankyou for sharing, take care xx
Beautiful paintings lovely scenery to paint enjoy your holiday I love your art travel bag can you send me the link please so I can purchase one thankyou
Really love your splodge and scribble sketches. And wonderful places to sit and paint. Thanks for sharing. Being new to all this, what are the gelatos?
Thank you!! Gelatos unfortunately are not made any more, so they're harder to get hold of, but they're creamy, lipstick style, water soluble, oil pastel kind of things!
First time watching your channel Helen. Blitz is gorgeous and she obviously loves your company 💕 I love the title...Splodge and Scribble 😁 attracted me straight away ❤ your swatches are beautiful! You are so lucky to live in Cornwall (it was my beloved Maternal Grandad's favourite holiday destination ❤).
Really enjoyed this video Helen. Beautiful scenery and love your ‘splodge & scribble’ paintings. I’ve also been eyeing up the toned paper, can’t wait to see how you get on with it!
You'll do great things with the Stillman and Birn! I love that paper! It's very good for gouache too (and Neocolor 2 and colored pencils love it). The tan is my favorite, but I have all three colors. They all perform great.
For some reason I haven't started using my tan Nova sketchbook yet either. I usually start a sketchbook by painting my current palette on the first page. Although when I bought the Alpha and Beta sketchbooks the first page in each was a swatch of every medium I own just so I could see how the different papers reacted to the same things. It helped me decide my plans for each of those sketchbooks. I bought the Nova tan one for trying gouache in but I might just try everything and see what it looks like lol. One thing I've never done is an urban sketch with gouache, I always use watercolors or markers so that could be fun with the right subject. Have fun on your holiday 😃
The Tempera sticks are larger for starters, so you are less able to do detail, and I think the Tempera sticks are a bit denser and stickier, though still very creamy and nice. They dry very quickly, whereas the Gelatos don't really dry at all. My Tempera sticks don't blend very well - they dry too quickly, whereas the Gelatos blend really nicely. They're both water soluble though.
🎉 splodge and scribbles 🥳🫶🏻. I have a tube of white gouache, but not sure how to use it with my watercolours, any chance of a demo at sometime 😃. Enjoy your trip away. 🙂
I see, thanks for sharing your knowledge,I’ll try not to ask too many more dafty questions, but on the other hand how do we learn, this is just one of the things I love about your channel , I feel that I can ask, thanks again.👍🫶🏻
Always enjoy tagging along with you, Helen.
I'm so glad! Thank you!
Love the splodge and scribbles, as always.
Thanks!

They've lived there ever since I met Scott 29 years ago! Yes, I feel insanely lucky!

A word of warning... your bottom gets wet when your water pot spills, on a trampoline!!
@@helencryer 😂
My goodness what an incredible garden... nice work Helen!

It’s always nice to see your splotches and scribbles, they have such a lovely feel to them. Enjoy your travels!
Thanks so much!
I just love your splodge and scribble creations!
Thanks!
Okay, so now I need to pop those fabulous flippin Gelatos on my Amazon wishlist! 😆. Enjoy your time away 😊
Just to warn you, they longer make them, so are getting harder to get hold of!
@@helencryer hahaha! That explains a lot. Thank you x

I really am happy with the beige paper so far! Things look good on it as long as you add some very light colours!
Love them both! That farmhouse is gorgeous, and how lovely that you had a little doggy friend to keep you company.
I received such an enthusiastic welcome from her, and got a bit emotional about it, that she remembers me from year to year!
Beautiful relaxing locations to sit and paint! Lovely paintings too!

Such a good way of explaining it. Splodge and scribble. 😊
It's a very literal name!

That’s a beautiful place your friend has in Cambridgeshire! I love watching you paint out on location, thanks for letting us tag along! x

Love the artworks you created. What a charmed existence you seem to live!

Welcome and thank you! I was so happy that Blitz remembered me when I arrived - I only get to visit once a year! Yes - I adore Cornwall!!

Beautiful serene place. I love my pencil case that you recommended. Mine is purple of course 😂 Lovely painting. 💜🙏

I only got mine just recently, and I was pleasantly surprised how well everything went with it!
How do you experience the difference between FC gelatos and tempera paint sticks, please.
Thanks! I have just uploaded a new video on mixing white gouache with watercolours (it does work best with tube watercolours though).
@@helencryer …..(as opposed to bought half/full pans? ) I do have quite a few professional quality watercolour tubes now,🤗.
Yes, tubes - you can get more concentrated pigment.
