You can tell in the judges voice that even she is devastated by having to hand down this sentence. She probably hoped she would never meet someone who deserved such a thing, she seems to be a genuinely kind person who hopes for the best in the world. I'm glad she didn't show him any leniency but I feel bad for her because it's almost like she had to lose something in herself to uphold the law in this case. It just shows how much damage one man can do, it ripples outward and touches everyone. Defence lawyers don’t always believe their client is innocent. Nor do they usually want to see their client get an acquittal. Their job is really to make sure the state dots their I’s and crosses their T’s to make certain that the defendant truly deserves to go to jail.
They’re also to make certain the innocent don’t do time for a crime they never committed. Detectives and prosecutors do occasionally get it wrong sometimes.
