Exodia is really odd. The more pieces you open with the worse it is, 4 being the absolute worse opening hand possible. Then 5 is the best hand in the entire game

@@AndyHorcasitas-ck6dn most exodias decks need to loop their draw engine to be able to draw all pieces of exodia as quickly as possible. If you start with 4 pieces and another card, chances are that either your last card is brick, a card that needs to discard others cards, or a card that works with everything else in your deck but exodia pieces.

In the og duel yugi just had to draw into exodia, here yugi had both a good starting hand to get him the win. Plus he would of been facing down blue eyes who almost gave Kiba the win in the first duel.

He just misplayed and it's not like I can say he really did that other player just had the right opening hand, the luck of the draw. But if he had attacked with Jet 1st Sangan would have just been returned to the hand and down to 1k LP on 1st turn. It's not that he played badly just the way it happens sometimes.

Its crazy how yugioh is right now that you can lower life points by 6800 on your first turn with only 1 attack... i miss the old days when a game could hold for 20 or 30 turns and you win the game all of a sudden by a mirrorforce or a topdeck lightningstrike (or raigeki before it was banned) or something like a monster reborn.

Bro, even back then 20-30 turns was an absurdly long time. Average duels were probably more like 10 or so turns, depending on hands and cards.

@@Celestial_Wing I'll have to rewatch the episode to check if Yugi used Sangan's effect. I'm not ruling it out, but I remember that Sangan was face down, and it wasn't revealed to be Sangan until Kaiba destroyed it.

This reminds me of a tournament I participated in about 20 years ago. I had already qualified for the German championship in a tournament held in my city but my brother and other friends didn't succeed and we went to a closeby city that also held a qualifier but a bit later. I didn't use my main deck but made an Exodia deck instead. After the third or fourth qualifier round (before the KO rounds) I noticed that people started talking about me saying things like "That's the dude with the Exodia deck. I hope I won't have to face him". Felt pretty interesting to be talked about in that manner haha. Unfortunately, I was unlucky, though: in the first KO round I played against my mate who I already played against in the last qualifier round (so right before that). This time I lost because he already knew how my deck operates and that made it significantly less powerful.
My brother and another two friends of mine ended up being 1st, 2nd and 3rd in that tournament when the locals were boasting how their two best players would wipe the floor with all of us. Fun times

@@williamscott2580 Well, it is banned now (apparently). Back then the Exodia pieces were limited to one each per deck. As I wrote in the beginning, the tournament took place about 20 years ago :) Back then I had three torrential tributes in my deck, as that was also allowed. I believe a couple of years later it was also limited to one per deck. It was a time when spell cards were still called magic cards and when there was common, rare, super rare, ultra rare and secret rare and that was it haha
@@williamscott2580 Hmmm I don't remember there being different ban lists in tournaments. Just the one general ban list. Wouldn't see why Exodia would have been banned either because back then you weren't able to pull off any of that "win in the first turn" stuff you can do nowadays
@@williamscott2580 Some months ago I played that Yu-gi-oh! game for a few days (I believe it is called Master Duel) and daaamn, a lot has changed in the game haha. It is crazy how many special summons people can pull of in a single turn
This is why I exclusively play exodia decks. For every 100 losses as long as I get 1 win like this, it's all worth it.
Its not about winning. Its all about sending a message.
Use a crooked cook deck, turns your win rate from 1 percent to 90 percent (mostly because people ff at the mere sight of him)

@@carlsagan3999literally drawing one exodia card in a 40 card decks lowers the percentage same with 60 cards so drawing all five is luck and so is drawing more than one piece basically he got lucky that he drew a card that gave him the last piece
@@ValkynShadethat isn't once in a lifetime odds, you have 0,03 % chance of opening with 4 parts of exodia, that's one in three thousand games, not that bad. If you play regularly yu gi oh and only exodia, it could happen multiple times pretty easily

Being born in 96. It's crazy to see what the game has become. I grew out of it when they introduced synchro summoning and I didn't think it would as intricate as it is today. I cant even imagine trying to play with just cards now. I got back into DL a couple months ago though. And I want to watch the anime now.

I like how there's a small delay before the exodia animation kicks in, ultimately this should crash your opponents game.
the "delay" is because on the opponent's side, they see each piece of Exodia flip up in the player's hand before the monster himself pops up on screen. Master Duel does not make this clear to the Exodia player

Man… times have changed. Back when I was a kid we would have to sacrifice small level monsters to summon a higher one, and we couldn’t attack on the first turn if I’m also correct. I would usually start my turn with man eater bug or armed ninja with a trap card.
He didn’t attack on the first turn it was the second….
Or yomi ship "yomi ship ability is if this monster card gets destroyed the monster who destroyed it will get destroyed" I'm still playing Yu-Gi-Oh GX academy even today
Funnily enough, last time I checked Man Eater bug was banned due to its effect being too strong

Both of those rules are still in effect. The person playing second can attack on their first go because it is the second turn of the game, not the first. They were doing fancy shenanigans to special summon all of those monsters on their side of the field too, which is why there was a bunch of cards flipping around out of their hand.
This is the most accurate duel why Kaiba never wins against Yugi

i don't know which one is scarier; drawing exodia in 2nd turn or having 2 monster with 3000+ ATK in the first turn
FYI he drew it when his monster died on the opponent's turn, not his turn 2. When Sangan dies, he was able to pull the last piece by choice from his deck. He might as well have grabbed all 5 pieces turn one. All he had to count on was the opponent beating the crap out of Sangan ... Which sadly he did. xD Makes it all the sweeter, I'm sure.

I run a Blue-Eyes deck myself, and I have to say that it's actually fairly common to get two of my dragons out first turn. The problem is that so many other archetypes are much better optimised for this kind of thing and unfortunately Blue-Eyes has been neglected as far as proper support goes. It's got some fun combos but if you play it against others enough you quickly realise there's a big difference in how it runs in comparison
You could have two 3000 ATK Dragons, Turn one way Back with the old cards. Just Play Lord of the Dragons and Dragon Flute.

I'm pretty sure you could have ended the duel immediately if you had had an Almiraj in your extra deck, as Linking off the normal summoned Sangan would trigger it's effects instead of relying on your opponent to not interact with Sangan in the slightest.

The skill is in reducing the inconsistency in your deck and making it work in any situation.
But most of the time I'm unlucky enough never to draw land still.. 😅

Every card game in existance is like this. It will always depends on the cards you get.
Technically, Yugioh (as in the tcg), MTG, and other tcgs get around the issue of luck by virtue of you building your own deck. You can still get screwed occasionally, just you can simply make your deck consistent enough it would be really unlikely to not do its thing.
Yugioh, *the anime,* on the other hand, doesn't get this excuse since cards and their rules themselves are created on the fly.

Imagining this game from the blue eyes perspective is amazing. You just first turn crapped all over your opponent, with OP monsters and summons, he draws a card after you take him to close to 1000 LP, game is in the bag just wait for him to end phase. Then boom 3 seconds later game over. Would have love to see a player reaction.

Back when I was in school, we played Yugioh by the PSP game rules. We would respect the max number per card (exp: 1 cyclone) but you could use one copy of the forbidden cards (it was more fun for us).
I had this deck with indestructible monsters by battle, burn spells, and stalling traps. I remember having exodia, a death set, and one monster that could win after inflicting damage a few times by effect.
Having your opponent waste all their good cards just to stop you from ending the game while you have another setup to win was priceless.
The amount of ¨this is bs!¨I heard made my day.
I miss playing with the boys, looking at each other albums of rare cards to exchange them, giving tips and testing fun decks, and giving essential cards for free to those starting to play (I had so many copies 🤣).

What a fun interactive experience, that man chained about 9 cards, summoned 2 monsters with 3,000+ damage rating +1 low level and attacked his life points directly for 6800 damage all in the first turn. I'm sure everyone enjoys playing against people with decks like that because this game is incredibly well balanced :)
Lol that Blue Eyes deck is not even close to the strongest thing to play either. Really at this point in Yu-Gi-Oh though it's important to consider that their is a lot more interaction points to stop some of the absurd boards. My HERO deck can pretty reliably end with 5 monsters on field all over 2500 attack while still holding 3-4 cards for next turn if my opponent doesn't interact with me at all.
@@luxumbra7602 I won't lie brother, but that sounds like a dreadfully boring experience if that's what the games mechanics have boiled down to. I can't say that the game was perfect in my times of playing when Yu-Gi-Oh was first introduced to the US, but at least is was moderately paced and enjoyable, this just look like an epileptic seizure in card form.

Lol when this show first came out I was working and decided to buy a complete boxset of cards, as well as that toy thing that you attached to your arm. I played magic back in the day and 60 bucks for the cards and 40 bucks for the toy was a silly teenage buy but hilarious when I went to my friends house, he and his brother were big in card games like that. I swear the only times I won games was this set, or when I get over the top and act like they do on the show (I had the arm thing after all lol).

reminds me of the first time i played Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution. the first tutorial battle i drew 4 pieces of exodia and for my 6th card on my turn i drew the fifth piece. i was seriously thinking it was part of the tutorial and not just freaking luck.

Some people seem to think Sangan should have been linked away, but doing so would make it vulnerable to Ash. I choose to believe that the player was big brained enough to realize this and instead outwitted the opponent by purposely setting the monster, knowing that a single set monster is rarely ever viewed as a substantial threat and would likely be destroyed by battle instead.
I mean it is optimal, it's just better cause then you don't have to worry about dying. For example, if blue eyes had any attack increase, the damage woulda just won the duel alone
Except most good decks would pop sangan before battle phase with removal to have a clear board to attack into (don't want to run into a ryko or man eater bug do you)

I can't remember where but i remember it being said that the Effect of Exodia can't be activated if a god card is on the field.

Sangan is probably the only monster I’ve used in every deck I’ve played with because I just love it’s effect, but when it comes to summoning Exodia there’s no question it’ll be included.
Anytime someone just sets a monster and ends turn, you should be on high alert.
With things now you're better off finding a way to remove a card without destroying it.
Although in this case, a banish or a bounce would have been better, since any method of sending Sangan from field to grave ends up with the Exodia win.
