    Another great podcast, Mick was a great rider. Looking forward to the second part of the podcast ! The last year the TT counted for gp points was 76, Tom Herron won the senior that year.

    Proper legend and clever enough to know when to stop and move into other areas of the sport other than actually sitting on a bike.

    I remember Mick Grant at OULTON PARK BRINGING ALONG James Whitam to race in his early days wearing a set of MICKS leathers, i guess because in his early days HE DID NOT HAVE HIS OWN, Jamie was about 8 stone wet thru so plenty of room in Micks leathers but he rode the socks off the bike riding alongside some of the then top riders around I wonder if Mick remembers this happening HOPE SO?? wonderfull memorys.

    Watched Mick at Malloey park one year wen he slid off at the entrance to Garrards bend, As he walked back past us he picked up a large traffic cone, placed it on his head and bowed to the crowd who were shouting sympathetic comments to him! He wore that and waved to the crowd all the way back to the pits. What a great character, First saw him at Croft on his Velocette, he certainly made it fly!!! One of the very best of the era.

    How good are the stories from the older generation of riders, my era of being a fan, it may seem more glamourous today with the corporate events and money in the sport, but the pure sport and camaraderie of the era is just not there today, the more corporate the TT gets, the more we lose .

    That's why you can't truly compare the records of Ago vs. Rossi. Ago was allowed to beat up on the lower classes while competing in the 500's. If Rossi had been able to do that, not only would he have OBLITERATED Ago's win total, he would have SEVERAL more championships.

    • @eventcone
      @eventcone 10 місяців тому

      Well, you can't win more than you enter, can you? And Ago won two of his world championships racing against possibly the greatest racer of all time - Mike Hailwood. Got to respect him for that (even if I think he won because his MV was more reliable than Mike's Honda at the time).

    when you stop to think ,you didnt just have the track to consider which im sure was as bumpy as fook ,but the possibility of those big 2 strokes seizing up at 180 mph ,gladiators then and the same now ,boxers and motorcycle racers ,everything else is bollox

  • @matthewhackett1710
    @matthewhackett1710 Рік тому

    So funny - working at height scared Mick to hate going to a 'proper job', but doing 180mph along IOM roads never caused him concern.
