  • Once I decided to build 2wd bicycle and faced the callenge. It wasn't that easy I expected but after few weeks 2wd bike works. All needed parts I found in old hand drill and some of them borrowed in a bike store 😁
    The constuction might have some issues that need to be improved. But it's working prototype of all wheel drive bicycle. 🙂

    • @maclarenstevenson
      @maclarenstevenson 3 роки тому +55

      Proboabalynwould have just slowed it down because of the extra weight especially because it is weight that you have to move
      The thing that it would be good for is losing grip for example when you are climbing up a muddy hill and your back wheel spins this bike might be better in cases like that but due to the extra weight who knows

    • @Angelo.barleystini
      @Angelo.barleystini 3 роки тому +65

      Although it's a great feat and enjoyable to watch, I believe it to be almost useless. The grip on the front tire is typically an order of magnitude lower than the one on the back tire, as most of the time you put your weight on the back wheel while cycling. No weight, no adherence, no traction. This might change if you're going downhill, then the weight can be put on the front tire, but then you won't need 2wd as gravity is more than enough.
      Instead, 4wd on cars works because the engine is quite heavy and it's put on the front, and although the suspension work while accelerating tends to shift the load on the back tires, the engine weight allows a good amount of traction on the front tires also.
      Edit.
      Maybe, just maybe, it could work going uphill if he had put a very big gear on the front wheel, that way by leaning forward you could transfer enough torque and weight to make it stick to the ground and actually have traction.

    • @BA500
      @BA500 3 роки тому +3

      How about climb a hill i'm not sure. But it is definitely better at dry sand. Interesting how it would work with standard not fat tires 🧐

    • @maclarenstevenson
      @maclarenstevenson 3 роки тому +7

      @@Angelo.barleystini It would still make a difference when climbing up a steep hill on gravel or mud because any little bit of traction up front can potentially get enough grip to keep the bike moving forward and therefore also maybe not losing traction in the back wheel

      as you can see in the build, the front wheel is connected to the rearwheel with a second chain, behind the disc. if he drove the frontwheel with the cranks, he would have to add another shifter, to keep the wheels sync. but in this case, the chain for the frontwheel is connected to the drivetrain after the cassette(where the shifting is done), so no shifting for front needed.

    Pretty kewl...I would suggest a spring loaded chain tensioner to take up that extra slack as well as ½ links to get as much slack removed as possible.... Makes me want to try this on a motorized gas bike.... That would be the shit with a212cc 4 stroke

      It won’t give more power, but it will give more grip.
      For all the situations were you spun the rear wheel of a bicycle due to low grip…
      Yeah, no, it’s pointless. Motorcycles would sometimes benefit from this, and there are extremely small numbers of agricultural motorcycles with AWD, but humans just aren’t powerful enough to encounter this as a problem.

    That front drive train is ingenious. Although dust and dirt will probably clog it up over time, the idea of fixing the first chain drive to the frame and transferring it to the second chain drive with a dif is genius.
