I totally disagree with the previous comment - your instructions were very clear and precise and I liked that you gave options of how to use the different rulers. The fabric colours are hardly rocket science to follow, but extremely effective nonetheless, so do not be discouraged by adverse comments. Most of us really appreciate your time and effort in giving us your ideas and skills and I, for one, like your style! I tend to work in much the same way as you, using fabrics in whatever pleasing way I can in an improv manner and the quilt was amazing. Well done indeed☺️😊
Thanks so much Moirae! I really appreciate your kind words and support. I think sometimes people forget that we are not professionals and we're just doing this for fun and to share our passion for sewing and quilting with others. Thanks again!
Thanks Nana! I love the three dimensional effect and scaling it up for a baby made a lot of sense to me. I hope you will give this a try. Thanks for watching.
Oh Michelle... I love the work you do and the creative ideas you have. I've been wanting to try this particular block for a while, but never trusted myself to get the illusion right. Your clear instructions have inspired me to finally give it a try! Thank you so much for sharing...❤
This was very clearly explained. Once upon a time I made a small quilt using Missouri Star's "Rhombus" template, with a similar design, but the blocks are not hollow on that one. The pattern called for assembling the blocks in columns which was a new concept for me, but it turned out pretty nice. The big blocks on your quilt really make a statement, so I think I'd like to try it.
Hi Beth - good to hear from you. I haven't tried the rhombus shape before - I'll have to take a look. I hope you will give this one a try. Columns, rather than rows, is a bit of a leap, but once you get started, it makes sense. Hope all is well with you.
Excellent tutorial! I love 3D blocks. I’d love to make a couple of bed size quilts with these blocks. You’ve given me the confidence to make the attempt. Thank you!!
I just found your channel. Love the giant hollow cube. I made it for a new granddaughter. It was so fun to make. Would have been easier if you had given the width of the background strip but I got it close enough and it turned out beautiful but not quite flat. I'll email you a picture, I'm so proud of it. Thanks.
Thank-you so much for sending the photo of your quilt! It looks great! I love the border you added - it looks like a ribbon around the blocks. And the background is a great colour. I double checked the pattern and the width of the background strip is in the cutting directions - 9 3/8. I'm glad you were able to make it work - it really is beautiful!
Thanks so very much for this tutorial and pattern!! You are awesome! I absolutely love the 3D block but all the patterns I found were for tiny little blocks and i didn't want to sew all of those tiny pieces, so I was so pleased to find you and your most excellent tutorial. I'm going to try a twin size quilt using your big block pattern! You have inspred me! Please keep the tutorials coming! 😊❤😊
Yummy, I'm so happy to have found you yesterday. I have wanted to do a tumbling blocks quilt for 30+ years. Your easy to listen to voice and well thought out process is going to put me in a spin to finish the reverse Iris chain sooooon. like your baby challenge as well. Thanks, I have subscribed.
Thanks so much Carylanne! And don't forget to get the free patterns from my website (www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com). So glad you found my channel and that you are enjoying it.
Good morning, have you come up with a bonus project using your 2 inch hourglass squares? Love the idea and I have made several to get started. Thank you, love your tutorials in using up scraps.
Hi Karen - there are a few projects on my website and UA-cam channel for these pieces. Check out the video called The Ultimate Bits & Pieces (ua-cam.com/video/U4_YT1Ja9no/v-deo.html). It talks about two different pattern options (Square Dance and Stars on Parade - both on my website). There is also the table runner pattern called The Bonus Project (ua-cam.com/video/BPSU2oF7v-A/v-deo.html). I hope you will check them out!
Very pretty. I’m new to your channel I’m enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing your time with us. God bless you and your family have a blessed evening.
Welcome! And thanks so much for watching. You can download this pattern for free from my website at www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com. I hope you find other enjoying and inspiring videos. Best wishes!
Hi Raquel - I'm so glad to hear that it worked out!! I'd love to see a photo - if you would like to share, I'd love to see it. You can email me at: bitsandpiecesquilting@gmail.com.
Hi Tina and welcome! The free pattern is on my website at: www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com. Let me know if you have any questions or issues. Thanks for watching!
This is beautiful! ❤ if you ever start feeling that it’s hard to hold your long ruler without slipping, my husband bought me a clamp that works perfect and it’s not so much pressure on my shoulder and hand to press down on the ruler.
Hi Ann - I've seen those and they look really useful. I'm grateful for my up-down desk so I can adjust the height as needed when I'm cutting. I hope you give this pattern a try!
This is a very nice block! Since we're looking for a new great-grandchild before the end of the year, think this will be very nice for him/her (gender not known). The only problem I see in making this quilt is laying it out on the floor; I'm too old & stiff to get up & down. Thanks for very nice tutorial.
Hi Joy - thanks for your note, and congratulations on the great-grandchild! Hopefully the pattern instructions are clear enough that you don't have to lay it out on the floor - I was just using the floor as my "design wall" while designing the quilt. Best wishes!
I'm trying to make this quilt but I've run into some issues... I got the blocks done just fine. Now I'm onto the borders and you say in the written part to sew them together in columns but nothing lines up and I feel like I messed up somewhere between the video and written parts. Don't know if you can help, but I would appreciate any input. I am going to leave my comment up and also add that I've figured it out. I had sewn the blocks together, therefore no columns! I will separate the blocks in the middle and then be able to sew columns, I hope.
Hi Christi - send me an email at bitsandpiecesquilting@gmail.com. If you are willing and comfortable, perhaps we can connect in a video call and I can try to talk you through the issues.

Love the optical illusion of this block and the very clear instructions you provided.
Thanks Susan!
I've seen this block/quilt before but never with a good explanation of the fabric color placement. Yours is excellent. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
Glad you enjoyed it Wily Cat! I hope you will give the pattern a try.

Thanks Maria!
Terrible instructions. To many rulers and not enough on fabric placement. Should be listed as fabric 1-2-3-
Hi Gail - sorry to hear you were not impressed. I'm still working on my pattern design skills, approach to teaching etc. Still a work in progress.
