    Why some people say "Daft Punk is stealing"? I have the leaflet of Discovery album on my hands, and on every song that is listed here from that album (all but the last one) says "contains a sample from blaablaablaa, performed by blaablaa, used by permission of *the record label*".
    So what is the problem?

    The reason why sampling was used so much on the discovery album is because they gave electronic music a chance when they were back in their rock band roots. After their homework album alot of their fans showed little to no respect towards other music. They wanted the discovery album to be very diverse and different from any other dance album. With more of a feel good tone. They paid respect to the music from the good ol' days with this album, and just made each song BETTER!

    In French House sampling is a popular technique but it is not just getting one sound.

    • @shaft9000
      @shaft9000 9 років тому +12

      Benjlmao sampling doesn't "look like" anything, and it's a billion times easier to do than learning an instrument, finding a band, writing the song, spending time money, food&gas on rehearsals and more.
      I've done/am doing both, and samp[ling has been dead easy to do with one machine since about, oh, 1984 when the Fairlight came along, and was easily affordable by 1990 with the akai s1000.
      Inspiration/vision. imagination and production are another matter, but sampling is technically trivial.

    I cant really judge Daft Punk's usage of samples because I don't really listen to much of their music, but when artists such as Kanye West sample, it definitely should be considered artistic as he completely changes the context of the song he sampled, e.g in "Through the Wire", a song about him having his jaw strapped with a wire after a car crash, he samples Chaka Khan's "Through the Fire", a song about love. Sampling is actually quite difficult to master and it requires talent, those who say it isn't art are very ignorant.

    @LAGOZY yeah sampling is an art form in itself, and when you get to the extremes of sampling it's border-lining on synthesis. Also, what's even more impressive is how alot of the top artists did this stuff back in the 90's on old school (now obsolete) samplers!

    @MithranArkanere daft punk sampled the songs they did because they themselves loved the original songs. though to people saying how much sampling they did, and if daft punk really has musical talent, alive 2007 is their best work and that's just with them sampling their own song collection.

  • @LrulestheworldM8
    @LrulestheworldM8 12 років тому

    Daft punk used this basis in some of their songs. With others they used strait up musical work. for Alive they used gritty tones, for Homework they used the 90's house scene to influence their beats. They didn't really focus on samples and created their own music. The newest Tron legacy album had no samples at all. They got back to their roots and created something unique. And with the next album coming out on 3.13.13 I can gurantee they will get back to that sound they were famous for.

    Man's greatest achievement is not always invention, often, it is innovation and ingenuity. When hearing of the samples, initially I lost respect. Although once I looked more into Daft Punk's sampling (whosampledotcom). I gained more respect than I had lost because many (not all) of the samples only resembled a few tones (a second or so of the song). Turning a fraction of a song into a masterpiece must take unbelievable skill!

    @DrummTrip44 Um, If you look up Madeon the first song you might come across is
    "Pop Culture" which is 39 different songs being sampled at once.
    I know he has some original stuff too, but you kinda have to know what to look for.

  • @CarloneCarlo

    @LAGOZY not to forget something, sampling is not always just taking a song and cut it, some they have to redo themself, which is basicly a hell of a work. im a producer i know that

  • @dsbtaa

    they are djs! all in music like each art on earth is already done!, a dj is a music designer, cut, copy and paste! they take their influences to make their own music. Funky, disco, dance are sounds that they used to do what they felt like, thanks to god that they have the best influences on the history of music.

    Can't blame them for sampling good riffs they enjoy. They credit everyone in their music. Sampling makes them 'house' and in fact, very original. I didn't hear the other bands repeat their riffs and figures simultaneously. This is what makes them daft punk. ;)

    I was like let's take a look down nostalgia road and look at my favorites from 4-5 years ago. That counts, it's the way you make things and the way you express yourself and also respect. If i for example made a painting and I sold it and then someone saw it made a copy of it and sold it for even more then that is pretty mutch a fraud or copyright infringement.

    I think you should all watch the 'Copyright Criminals Documentary' it goes into full detail about sampling, from multiple points of view, then you lot can argue about if its right or wrong, me i'm all for sampling, as long as its used in a creative manor then its great, Ill have to admit though while i do love Daft Punk, I wasn't expecting entire 4 beat bars of samples from original artists/bands, i was only expecting a 1 beat hit, or a vocal melody, mixed with other instrumental pieces. :/

    • @JimijaymesProductions
      @JimijaymesProductions 10 років тому +1

      Just because they are samples doesn't diminsh the songs, there is no doubt that Daft Punk can write good songs and come up with awesome sounds, they also just use other peoples sounds to create sound. Most of the above are fairly unknown songs and they all did it legally. What is much worse is taking a hit for example "you spin me right round" then bastardising it ala Flo Rida, thats just cashin in on a hit rather then creative sources of sounds and loops
