I don't get the sarcasm around the lyrics to this this kinda music isn't about the lyrics the words are an after thought it's all about the beat and the track itself
This song wasn't about the lyrics, it was about the music and the extremely clever music video itself, I still remember watching it for hours when I was 10 when my Dad showed me for the first time
the reason why it has 10 million views like that is because its just a reupload onto the official channel. Still kinda weird to see under 300 comments on a video with that many views.
daft punk, the only producers in the world that can say "around the world" 144 times (80 times here) and turn it into a platinum record and #1 hit in 6 countries. The greatest of all time.
I watched the live version a few years ago...two blokes up on a set doing nothing but moving around. No instruments of any kind. so they did some messing around with digital sounds...big deal. Oh, it sounds pretty good, but still...
My DJ at my wedding back on October 5th played this song at the wedding reception and he got the place going wild! Hell of a night and one hell of a party song to dance the night away to!
@@BOT-he3dg they're basically dancing as groups of four. Each group just learns their own choreo. When they "combine" is the hard part bc colliding with another dancer fuckin sucks. The mummies had it so good lol. A lot of them here likely have some classical training to an extent.
Shit is crazy. Like almost like clockwork. And to do all this for like 5 minutes. I’d go see a show like this. It’s like a choreographed circus it’s insane
@@joergroser2536 yesterday i went to the cinemas to see the compilation of daft punks' videoclips and i was blown away at the creativity these put in their videoclips , i didn't knew it was Michael Gondry behind this one , amazing !
For those who don't know: The skeletons represent the guitar The mummies represent the drum Aliens represent the vocal Dancer womens represent the keyboard Tall, small-headed guys represent the bass I'm sure you'll get more taste and meaning if you watch the clip accordingly. I think this is the most perfect clip ''around the world''.
Jokes aside, it actually would be hard to remember the exact lyrics (i.e. how many times he says "around the world"). If someone had to sign this song from memory, I bet they would struggle with it.
There's a few things here that can be said. First: It might look completely random, but this is a _tightly_ choreographed interpretive dance. Also, I love how the stage is slowly revealed to be a record and the camera angles play a lot with perspective, making parts of the stage look smaller and larger than they really are, even a shot framed by pillars to give a toy-like view of the dancing. These are really, really skilled dancers who are pulling off really tightly timed moves at times, even if the end result looks chaotic and dreamlike. That's the point of the video-it's absurdist, while being completely sincere in its artistry.
This music video and dance choreography, might just be up there as one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of all time. Once you realise the dance stage is actually a vinyl record, and each group of dancers represents an instrument, the whole dance starts to come together. The small head tracksuit guys are the bass guitar. Notice they climb the stairs as the pitch increases, and descend when the pitch decreases. The synchronised swimmers dance to the keyboard notes. The mummies are the drums. Skeletons guitar. And lastly, the alien robot motrocycle helmet guys are the lyrics... It's an absolute masterpiece.
Every now and then I watch this video again, for me one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen. It's like looking at a kaleidoscope, simply the pleasure of watching colors and shapes that move continuously without a precise purpose. Simple and brilliant.
Lyrics: [groovy beat] Around the world ×16 [groovy beat intensifies] A around the world ×24 [groovy groovable beat] Around the world ×40 You can thank me later
@@Pitahayaro There's a video with the music video's director Michel Gondry explaining it if you search his name and the word explanation. Basically the stage represents the time signature and each one of the types of costumes represent a different instrument (the skeletons being the guitars, break dancer guys are the bass, etc.) Really genius music video!
That's literally most music we bash.catchy loop with minimal talent shown..love the lil beat and when others sample the sweet stuff...but this is simpleton music for simpletons.
The way the vocals and the different instruments are represented and have separate choreography all working together harmoniously is amazing. Outstanding way to visualize music. This video is art. ^_^

I remember back in the 90s seeing this on TV. Thought to myself "Ah, this is some weird late-night TV shit." Little did I know it was the beginnings of one of the biggest duos in modern music history.
You know it just hit me. The genius of this song isn't its lyrics, it's its dance choreography. The dancers have 0 audio queue, can't follow the lyrics to know when the next move is, they just have to remember precisely their entire number, down to the timing. Absolute legends.

Props to the phenomenal dancers, the lighting design, choreographers, set designers, directors, camera workers, concept etal So incredible. The beauty of math and pattern. ❤️🏆
the fact you could watch this music vid and pin every beat to a specific group of outfits is amazing, the robotic voice belonging to well as you'd guess the robots, and like the hand clapping belonging to the mummies, and the bassline belonging to the skeletons, and so on, truly an amazing video and song
I know right! I was watching the video to find a specific timestamp someone had commented about a funny dnace move but before I knew it, I had already watched half of the video. The music video is just so mesmerizing.
1:52 my dad always laughs when the one dude at the end of the stairs just does that little arm movement while the others are doing these mad dance moves lol 😆
This is a reference to group B-boy dance circles. Where someone would pass you the move, and usually send it to another dancer via the arm wave. Awesome.
I was 5 years old when this video came out and I was obsessed. I still remember video thinking this guy was funny too. DO A JIG DAMMIT! WE WANNA SEE YOUR MOVES!
Still one of the greatest music videos of all time. So simple yet so intricately complex, perfect representation of the minimalist brilliance of Daft Punk. Fuck I miss them.
Daft Punk has, in my opinion, the most impressive music career of all time. 2 young french guys who started making weird noises on poor machines went from losers to the most listened artists on the planet. Creating a new style and a new genre that is going to leave a mark on the music industry forever. All of that while still being able to walk outside freely without anyone being able to recognize them.
@@vernonkiseyinewakup1450 I think its the bass, I listened to someone just play the bass and there was something about it.. Thomas and Guillaume are masters of music
The first times I saw the video I thought it was just a group of people doing a weird dance but now I realize that each group dances to the rhythm of the different elements of the song and I LOVE IT. I don't know how I could be so blind, but now it's one of my favorite videos without a doubt.
Yeah The tall people are the main melody. The glittery ladies represent the soft electronic noises. The mummies are the rythym/drums. The skeletons are the low bass. And the robots are going... Around the World
I'm seeing a lot of confusion from people. This music video has been on Warner Music Germany's page for years but they changed the channel name to "Angesagt!" which I think has confused a lot of people into thinking it's some kind of unofficial upload. That upload is still up and has 9 million views so it seems to me that they basically made a carbon copy of that video and put it on this channel which is why it already has 10 million views just a few hours after upload. Edit (4/15/2022): Daft Punk have now replaced the crusty old quality with a remastered version!
that's kinda weird if the original upload is up cause videos for songs from Discovery were on Warner Music France's UA-cam channel i believe and just got transferred between channels due to yt's artist thing taking effect
This came out when I was in my late teens and although I thought it was unusual I didn’t fully understand the artistic expression till years later when the music industry lost it. Thank you Daft Punk and all the performers, this is an absolute gem
Did you know that each performer is an instrument? When they stop dancing, the matching instrumentation stops? Tall dudes are the bass, skeletons are the guitar parts, mummies are the drums
I just discovered this video this past weekend and I freaking love it! I can't figure out how I missed it? I really dig Daft Punks sound but this video is so out of this world tight!
Remember kids, this is your future if you get a university degree in modern dance. All jokes aside though, the more I watch this, the more I realize how intricately it is choreographed and how tightly it is executed by the dancers. Mesmerizing
It was the spring of 1997. I was 14 years old. Our neighbors across the street were known for throwing parties all the time, and this particular day was no exception. They always played the most popular music during their parties. I was sitting out in my front yard, observing yet another party being held at this house, when suddenly a song started thumping through their speakers. I sat there and listened to that whole song and my entire concept of Music changed that day. This is the song that was playing, and it changed my life. Thank you, Daft Punk, for that.
Every time i watch this video i look at a different group of people on the stage and every single one of them in on point with the beat. And i nitice something new every time, Its actually amazing.
I was in HS when this came out and never in my wildest dreams could I image that one day me and my kid would be jamming to this 25 years later. Wow how time flies😮💨

This will always remain one of the coolest videos of all time. I know a lot of people like that they turned all anime but this was so original and will always be cool and original, and will look fresh and new 5,000 years from now.
God I love this song. Everything is just perfect. The simplicity, the bass line, the percussion, and the singing of course. Even the video is so well thought out and complicated. To think that people are writing songs that are mostly swear words, and then there is this masterpiece. My favorite Daft Punk song by far.
i love how this choreography makes no sense at all and how bizarre it is, but how it works so amazingly perfect to this song. I love this clip, i love this song and i 100% love daft punk for this and all they've done. They will be missed
update: i read a comment about how every type of dancer represents an instrument and that's absolutely true if you listen closely: the mummies are the drums, the skeletons are the guitar, the dancing women are the keyboard, the aliens are obviously the vocals ('around the world' x80 or so for those of you who didn't know) and the guys with little heads are the bass. This makes this clip a million times better it's so f'in brilliant

Damn you really memorized all of them? You're lucky i can get to "Around the world" fine but after the "Around the world" Part it's extremely difficult
3:04 This is the coolest transition imo. When they switch from fluid movement to twitching moves to the beat and they’re perfectly synchronized with each other. Each group of dancers are basically personifying a part of the song before synchronizing with each other with the same dance move in unity to visually show how each instrument complements one another.
Well said!
Does the video appear to be undercranked to you? It almost looks like it was performed slowly, then sped up to match the tempo of the song
@@bfg9k_ It is. There's a making of video and it's all rehearsed and performed at two thirds the speed.
Basically its quality, and such it will last i belive forever :D
Random? Are you kidding me. That is one of the most tightly choreographed videos of all time. Makes Michael Jackson's "Thriller" look like a mosh pit.
When I realized every group of dancers represented sections of the song it blew my mind how f-ng great this video was
🤟🏼👍🏻
lol I love the bass boys running down the stairs at the end of the loop
4
Yep, there is a comment somewhere here saying what instrument each group represents
Not only that, but every step represents a note. You can see the bass section rising then falling. Same with the girls
In one take like this, incredible movements, camera, the people involved are absolute experts. This is beyond hard, this is insane.
What kind of instruments?
The complete song was designed by a computer .. 🙂
Reminds of those weird Bauhaus ballet costumes.
@@ralfhartmann5050 Using the computer, different sounds can be replicated to mimic live instruments. That is probably what it meant by instruments.

That upload is still up and has 9 million views so it seems to me that they basically made a carbon copy of that video and put it on this channel which is why it already has 10 million views just a few hours after upload.
Edit (4/15/2022): Daft Punk have now replaced the crusty old quality with a remastered version!
Hi GotWub. I subbed
that's kinda weird if the original upload is up cause videos for songs from Discovery were on Warner Music France's UA-cam channel i believe and just got transferred between channels due to yt's artist thing taking effect
Thanks for clearing up I was confused

This is actually insane that I’m watching this for the first time. So talented and coordinated
This deserved an Oscar for the Best Short Film. Seriously. And I normally hate music videos. This is a true Work of Art.

This came out when I was in my late teens and although I thought it was unusual I didn’t fully understand the artistic expression till years later when the music industry lost it. Thank you Daft Punk and all the performers, this is an absolute gem

Nah the one where he said around the world is better
The unison at 2:05 just feels soo good 👌🏼

Did you know that each performer is an instrument? When they stop dancing, the matching instrumentation stops? Tall dudes are the bass, skeletons are the guitar parts, mummies are the drums
Interesting

Remember kids, this is your future if you get a university degree in modern dance.
All jokes aside though, the more I watch this, the more I realize how intricately it is choreographed and how tightly it is executed by the dancers. Mesmerizing

Absolutely, so tight and simple. Althought a Robot does make a mistake at 1:05 lol. As a video and concept it's stuck with me since I was a kid.
No idea what those words mean but I think I understand
It was the spring of 1997. I was 14 years old. Our neighbors across the street were known for throwing parties all the time, and this particular day was no exception. They always played the most popular music during their parties. I was sitting out in my front yard, observing yet another party being held at this house, when suddenly a song started thumping through their speakers. I sat there and listened to that whole song and my entire concept of Music changed that day. This is the song that was playing, and it changed my life. Thank you, Daft Punk, for that.
Was it 97 I was lil boy
Blud said "Around the world" changed her life 😂😂😂😂
This album bridged a gap in music at the time
Every time i watch this video i look at a different group of people on the stage and every single one of them in on point with the beat. And i nitice something new every time, Its actually amazing.
Yes.
Just woke up from a reoccurring nightmare with your song playing in the background the whole time, and omg it still hits the spot

God I love this song. Everything is just perfect. The simplicity, the bass line, the percussion, and the singing of course. Even the video is so well thought out and complicated. To think that people are writing songs that are mostly swear words, and then there is this masterpiece. My favorite Daft Punk song by far.
The music video is genius.
i love how this choreography makes no sense at all and how bizarre it is, but how it works so amazingly perfect to this song.
