5 DAILY Supplements For Better Thyroid Health

  • Taking the right supplements has the potential to dramatically improve your thyroid and either help it work better or prevent future problems from occurring.
Whether you're trying to optimize your thyroid function because you have an existing problem like hypothyroidism or because you just want to prevent a future thyroid problem from occurring, these are, in my opinion, the 5 best supplements to take for your thyroid EVERY day:
    1. A daily multivitamin. A multivitamin because your thyroid is incredibly active and chews through a lot of nutrients. The most important include zinc, selenium, vitamin A, iodine, and vitamin B12. A deficiency in any of these may impair thyroid function.
    2. Protein powder. Protein powder makes the list because it's one of my all-around favorite supplements for one reason: it helps you stay on track with your diet. In addition, there's also a connection between your muscle mass and thyroid function.
    3. Omega 3 fatty acids. Fatty acids help to lower inflammation which helps ensure you can make more of the most powerful thyroid hormone T3.
    4. Vitamin D3. Low vitamin D is associated with an increased risk of developing hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, AND thyroid cancer. Vitamin D is a no-brainer.
    5. A probiotic. A probiotic because that's the easiest way to support your gut and make sure you can both absorb nutrients and thyroid medication (if you take any).

    2. Protein Powder (start with 20 - 25g per serving/ can increase in time)
    3. Omega 3 Fatty Acids (1-2g/ can go higher [i.e., if treating any depression/ autoimmune issues])
    4. Vitamin D3 (1k - 2k IU overall)
    5. Probiotic (Soil-Based Probiotic + Lacto-Bifido Blend Probiotic: Best Combo)

    I am hypothyroid and take:
    Zinc
    Selenium
    K2(MK7)
    Vit A
    D3
    Iodine occasionally
    Vit C
    Magnesium
ALA (omega 3s) cod liver oil too
    B12
Ox Bile - to boost gut acid levels to help digest
It works well alongside OMAD and a high fat extremely low carb lifestyle with plenty of protein by way of meat, fish (salmon, sardines, mackarel) poultry and now and again a protein smoothie, I am 71 and in the best state of health since I can remember

Thanks, this is excellent information! I'm wondering if you could explain what a "low carb diet" means. I keep hearing it and I'm at a loss as to what to and what not to eat. Love that you are in your 70's so looking at you as someone I can trust. Thanks again.

Taking selenium is dumb. Eating 2-3 brazilian nuts equals 100% daily requirement. Natural form and way cheaper

@@adelalvarez9185A low carb diet is essentially a Keto diet where you restrict carb intake to less than 20 carbs daily. Some take it even further to go zero carb or carnivore. There's a lot of great information and you should do your own research to determine what might work best for you. They are both fairly restrictive diets and you need to decide if they might work best for you. You should at least restrict or eliminate added sugars and vegetable oils and processed foods that contain them. Also avoid grains and breads.

Dr Childs, Always enjoy your videos! Half my family are very sick. We are all in our 70's....my siblings and I... Started listening to you and Dr. Berg and a few others a couple of years ago. You all have changed my life/health immensely ..... well, you gave me the info, and I followed through. I am so healthy!! And, I just "feel" good. Also, YOU are a nice looking man. I admire you for NOT dying your hair jet black, as most all men do today. It looks so foolish, and does not go with a mans "aging." You will look very handsome with your salt/pepper hair..... and I believe that most men who dye their hair have many self-esteem problems. Thanks for all the life saving information.

@Ron, some men gray very early, and gray hair is very aging. I get why some men dye their hair, and women do it without stigmas of having low self-esteem, so men should be able to as well.
Dying your hair is an easy way to dramatically change your look for the better.
I agree a little gray looks good on men though once they’re past a certain age. Dr. Westin just has a tiny bit, and it looks great on him, I agree!
In later years, I think both men and women look great with gray hair.

    • @DarkAngel-cj6sx
      @DarkAngel-cj6sx Рік тому

@@zannataylor9951 first I cleaned up my liver with milk thistle for few months.
Go easy on it it is like a detox and take at night because you will be in the washroom..
Second I changed my diet to OMAD Intermittent fasting with low calory . A lot of veggies and some rice and protein etc
Third cleanup the gut by taking oregano oil capsule and other herbs to kill bad bugs in my gut
      Then probiotic
Then dr childs supplement ( daily thyroid supplement, adrenal, and others).
Finally, since I wasn't sure I was going to succeed, I took one pill of synthoid off every month to see how I feel.
One pill off for a month , then the second month I took 2 pills off for another month etc.
You have to go with how you feel because as Dr Childs said it is not everyone who can get off the nasty thyroid medication.
Once you are taking thyroid medication, your own thyroid is not making one naturally that is why every month you have to take one pill off and get dr childs supplement to get your body to make it naturally.
Good luck and see how you feel.
      Good luck.

I am going to freeze dry the thyroid from our bull. It should be a lifetime supply of bovine ndt. It was huge.
He was home raised, organic, and with no vaccines or medication. We know what he ate.
Only time will tell if it's successful, but I'm going to try it. I've taken bovine desicated thyroid from New Zealand.

Why isn't whey recommended? It helps the body produce glutathione which helps w inflammation. Beef protein powder is also good, as there are no oxalate or anti nutrients

I have been told that whey is considered dairy. If your Thyroid problem is Autoimmune based, like Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease, many functional medicine sources recommend avoiding dairy as those molecules may be mistaken by the body and trigger the immune system.

To reduce inflammation you need a really high DHA in the omega 3 capsules.
Aim for 2,000…. You will find this with a really strong high quality omega 3. I use MINAMI pre and post natal which has 400 per capsule.
    I take about 5 capsules a day.

Can be lots of reasons for this. Even obesity can drive hyperthyroidism. Have a look at IV L-carnitine to control it. Selenium helps too, as does anything that controls TNF alpha (an inflammatory cytokine). Above all, do NOT supplement with iodine if you really have Graves disease. That wouuld be like pouring fuel on the fire.

I ASSERT eating an organic vegetable based diet will provide all necessary vitamins/nutrients (except for B12).
the market place has many supplements that do not contain the desired supplement, do not contain sufficient amount of the supplement, and are contaminated.
those who are deficient in any nutrient(s) are because of eating cr@p, drinking alcohol, smoking.......PEOPLE KNOW what to do and what not to do, but want their big macs anyway. it is not about education, but will power.

Good points made. Disagree about vitamin d however. Lots of foods are fortified with vitamin D, so most people dont need to take a supplement. Considering the reason why a person would even seek out vitamin d testing, im sure you're coming across many people who are certainly deficient. Doesnt necessarily illustrate the general population.

I recently switched from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid hoping to feel less like a zombie, and it will not level up. I've gone from 60 to 90 and now 120 and I am so tired I could die. My 1st bloodwork my TSH was 11.6, the 2nd was 8.13, and I go back in a few weeks to test again. Do you have any idea as to why this has happened? My GP will only test the TSH each time.

    • @stevestewart007
      @stevestewart007 Рік тому +6

My GP has resisted my taking Armour Thyroid (he has prescribed a miniscule amount just to satisfy my demands) and makes me stay on Levothyroxine, even though taking Levothyroxine and having TSH that is in "the range" doesn't help my energy levels and has made me gain weight over the years. I have to demand a separate T3 and T4 test every single time! Otherwise, he just looks at the TSH and goes, "It's fine". 🤨 So fed up with the general run-of the-mill doctors.

@@stevestewart007 Even with bottoming out at 60 mcg, I felt better than I have in years, other than being so tired. My personality is coming back, I feel like going places again, I am not so mean and hateful. I will never go back to Synthroid. I think they changed something in it. My Doc thought I was nuts too, but she said ok. If your Doctor doesn’t listen any better than that, you really should find another one. Today, I feel great. Maybe it’s had more time to balance out, but I do feel great. Read the book “ Overcoming Thyroid Disorders” by David Brownstein. That will tell you what you need to know. My daughter switched too and she feels much better. Best wishes and God bless.
