Improvising by definition is "coming up with a melody on spot without looking at a sheet music." Just practice the scales and arpeggios and chords and you'll eventually get it right. So no it's not unreal you just need to practice a lot and have dedication.

most solos aren't meant to be hard, take the solo from All That Matters on the RWBY Volume 5 Soundtrack it isn't hard and it's more smooth jazz then finger shredding madness like some of the songs have

Steve, I love how you simplify something and many times reduce it to a formula or process. Some musicians would be offended, and accuse you of insulting their creativity, but I think even most human nature is predictable and can be reduced to (a not so simple) formula or process. I mean, we all learn to walk by pretty much the same process, but we don't all walk the same. I think your solo was very creative and your method is very helpful. As always, I enjoyed your video and hope to see many more.

How to write a solo: 1. Improvise 2. Stop every ten seconds to scream "YEAH. OOH I LIKE THAT!" 3. Keep improvising 4. Realize you got lucky and you can't play for shit! 5. Give up and just steal parts from songs and switch the key!

Time and patience will get you there it takes a while I've been playing for 3 months and I've just been putting as much effort into it do that and you'll be good I'm learning paranoid by black sabbath but don't start with that start with smoke on the water and nothing else matters and Psychosocial those are some easy riffs to start with. Just practice as much as possible and you'll be good.

I'm 52 and this is completely different to how I learned to track due to the advent of digital technology. I generally went for the entire take and hoped I'd hold it together until the end and drop in if I (invariably) messed up. This was all on analog equipment using tape and hold habits die hard I guess. I do utilize the technology and track differently these days but I feel like I'm cheating. Sometimes I'd record 4 or 5 different takes of a solo and then edit it down to a composite of the best bits but editing on tape is not to be done with anything less than maximum attention and care. Non destructive editing is brilliant by the way and there's no reason not to use every advantage because it makes it far easier to comp a great solo and that's a good thing.
Pretty sure given a few hours Stevie could learn to play that in one take. People still do play live after all and Stevie is one of the better guitarists out there. This is just a natural way to WRITE for people who prefer to work by ear rather than off a page.
Yeah, that is I do it too. I record all my solos in one run. I learn some parts by heart and for the fast licks I just remember position or frets where I like how it sounds and they are usually entirely or partly improvised.
