    I’m not going to lie, when I used to work at guitar center over 10 years ago Behringer had a reputation as having cheap products and not known for quality. The employees made inside jokes about their products all the time but they’ve really reinvented themselves as a great brand over the last 10 years and I’m happy to support. Just purchased a Poly D and will buy one of these as soon as its available. Still known as affordable, however the quality they provide for that affordable price is unmatched. I see you guys cornering the market especially if you start recreating other hardware like time based fx, compressors, eq’s and tape machines!

      Went back to this demo with my headphones - I can clearly hear that this is without doubt the MonoPoly: just like the original one I used to have 4-5 years ago. An amazing recreation by Behringer! I love the superb tilted format too - my original was always propped up slightly to better allow me to access the front panel - tweaking the four oscillator rows while playing is such an important feature of this synth.

      CLASSY? Not the word I'd use to describe the sound of either of those synths. Chain saw, muscle car, borderline insanity, these are closer to what I love about the Korgs. Unbridled, terror, raw, ripping... I could go on for years. Sh!t, I have already!

    • @Rolanoid
      @Rolanoid 4 роки тому +1

      @@alphanumeric1529 I used both of them extensively back in the 80's and I certainly got a very classy fat poly sound out of them. The other sounds you mentioned I would not call classy so yes I understand where you are coming from but it certainly is a striking looking and sounding synth in many people's opinion and more will come to know how good the PolySix was and even rivals the Juno.

      @@fjfrancois Korg do great styling and I think they made the Minilogue look very stylish and elegant. I like that the blue wasn't done to death and we get to see it again now all these years later. Maybe Korg could have released a limited edition Minilogue in that blue though.

    Behringer is doing a lovely job with the synths.
    What would be a GREAT idea for Behringer to do would be to make a new 4 track tape recorder (like tascam porta one). Everyone is dying to buy used tape recorders nowdays but you must be more than lucky to find a functional one in a reasonable price. No other company is doing this right now.

    It's a really good copy, I own a Mono/Poly since 15 years, and it's really the mood of the original. That's a succes.
    On the other hand, i've got the 808 and the 303 clones... the 303 is great, one of the most closest of real one back then, but i've never own a real 303, just played on it a few times. I'm glad i have my Behringer copy for this low amount of money.
    I've also get this RD-8, cos i miss my TR-808 so much. Had it for 12-13 years, most of the tracks i've made with it, and i was really exited by the RD-8. This is probably the closest clone of this icon drumachine, but a bit disappointed, dynamic wise, some of the sounds are "lazy", or a bit different.... you need a very good compression and i still miss my 808, of course, no competition, but finally, for the price, you get something close.

    I have a couple questions. I own an original Mono/Poly, so I want to know if all features are the same. 1. is the pitch wheel spring loaded? it is not on the original, and this is handy when using it on the filter. 2. The up down on the arp repeats the top and bottom note. Can be cool but often I wished it could be switched to not repeat the top and bottom. Will there be a way to do that? maybe via editor software? 3. The portamento on the original is polyphonic even in mono mode. Meaning the glide rate for each oscillator is slightly different. Is that the case here? (I always wished the rate was the same for all vco's in mono mode)

    • @cardboarddog2010
      @cardboarddog2010 4 роки тому +9

      Great points. I've had an original unit too that I've refused to part with for 30 years now. In my case, the portamento behavior you describe is by far my favorite feature. I've owned a ton of synths, and nothing else quite sounds like this. With the portamento engaged, all the oscillators racing to a pitch at very slightly differing rates produces a natural chorusing effect that really can't be matched . . . even by synths I've owned that allow for a manually set portamento rate per oscillator. There's just something organic about the MP's portamento. Absolutely love it and would like to hear if the Behringer exhibits the same behavior. And the non-spring loaded pitch wheel is another big factor . . . not only because it's useful for filter modulation, as you mention, but it also just feels great for pitch bending. Having a dedicated intensity knob allows you to dial in just the right amount for your style of playing and makes it easy to bend to specific intervals. LOVE THE MONO/POLY!!

      @@huukihuuki So should I've bought Poly D even though I don't like it?
      Lots of useless "bang for buck" features lead to additional clutter and menu-diving. The main selling point of hardware is it's interface+workflow (not sound IMO, plugins can sound better with work). If I find interface lacking I vote with my wallet. Nothing is forcing me to buy a hardware synth with so many great plugins around.

    I'm surprised Korg hasn't still reissued the MonoPoly, nor the Polysix: glad Behringer keeps delivering cheap and amazing (both sound and looks-wise) analogue synths!

      At some time I had both the MonoPoly and the Polysix, sitting on a two-tier keyboard rack - it was a hard and dark combo with the power of a deep mine stone crusher. I would love Behringer to clone the P6, but I doubt it, it would be almost as expensive as a vintage one.

    Would be a waist of the keyboard otherwise

    hats off, it sounds impressive, and I get that behringer are into the whole clone thing (understatement!) but isn't this fundamentally a very basic synth that sounds good? i'm probably missing the point but it would be really great to see them push the boat a bit, be innovative, extend on these concepts. I love that they're delivering affordable hardware but ultimately it's offset by its limitations.

    How about an improved version of The Alesis Ion and the Andromeda done by Behringer?

    • @zachweidenbach
      @zachweidenbach 4 роки тому +1

      I doubt we'll ever see the likes of the Andromeda on a commercial scale ever again. It was such an over engineered, complex analog synth. It was in many ways the pinnacle of analog synths before that whole segment of the market came crashing down from digital synths. If someone repackaged the Alesis Ion/micron in an updated package with better controls, I would be all over it. Micron was my first synth, so I'm nostalgic for it. But the depth of that engine was incredible. And the FM on it could turn things into the most broken, organic, weird, interesting sounds that nothing else has really captured since.
