    Watched this video in 2021, decided to get Mono Poly ... wondered why I'd been so convinced, then realized how much it matters to run these things through reverb and delay. Then a friend got the Poly D, which convinced me to get one as well. "Get both" was evidently the best answer. Now I'm watching this again :)

      @@JohnTrasher -- It's not GAS if I actually use them ... right? please say that's right :)
      I did get the Poly D via trade for a handful of Volcas, so it was actually a *reduction* of gear ... at least, until the next wave of Behri releases in November.
      Anyway: thanks for your helpful video, which I will now be re-enacting at home.

    Jooooooohn!!! Hands down you have to be the man right now on youtube for being the first one to put those 2 synths next to each other. Not even Behringer has those bragging rights. Lol. Great video. On behalf of all the Behringer synth enthusiasts, thank you very much. Keep it coming.

      If you only have 700€ to spend i would go with the poly D bc of the chorus and distortion/moogysound. I already used it in all of my own songvideos here if you want to check it out. I used it mainly for bass Riffs.
      The MP has some other fields it excels, especially with the fm/fx section you can make really aggressive Sounds. The pwm is also a cool feature for more komplex/changing arp Sounds like in the beginning of this video :)

    I’m pretty sure you can fix the MonoPoly’s more muted tone by tuning the filters frequency. Starsky Carr has a good tutorial showing how he did it.

    • @mattg082
      @mattg082 3 роки тому +2

      For sure! I sat with mine on the factory for a day. But the cutoff seem to really not be that sensitive and jump from a muted to open sound fast. Now I have it up to 20khz, giving it more room to fine dial in. I def recommend at least setting it to 15khz. It’s a very nice synth, and something that I could grab basics right away. But the fx section is where I’m learning a bit more daily. If you spend enough time with some effects. You can make some really leads! The organ sound is impressive as well for dark moody stuff. I have a model d. I’d say the Monopoly for me works in a band setting for indie rock stuff. The model d does as well..but not as easily. I spend a good amount of time getting the model d sound I want crafted. The Monopoly, you can kinda run with it out the box....if not getting crazy with the effects.

I did not want to clarify it before because in a short comment it did not seem correct. both machines are valid and the differences that you have highlighted allow each one to understand which is the most appreciated sound. korg has a more "oriental" sound, more refined on the treble, Moog is "fat" like American cars ...

    Thank you for this review/comparison! I have been looking into getting a "solo" synth for my stack and I wondered how these two would compare as they seem to have similar superficial attributes. For my part, I think I will go toward the Poly D. While I'm sure I might experiment with the para-polyphony, I'm mostly interested in the mono sound and features. I wonder: has anyone compared the Poly D to the Behringer Model D? Polyphony notwithstanding, I suspect the Poly D might still win my affection. I'm only speaking for myself, of course. Given that both can be had for less than the cost of a single modern synth, I'll likely have the lot! @Rhizosphere my assessment is if you can't afford and actual moog, get the poly d for the moog sound but grandmother isn't much more and is a way more capable synth, to me the mono/poly is more interesting modulation wise than the poly d.

    • @24framemedia
      @24framemedia 3 роки тому

      @Rhizosphere Grandmother is great even without using modular, it's just a great rock solid sounding bass synth with a really nice sequencer/arpeggiator and spring reverb, the patching is just an added bonus.

    • @24framemedia
      @24framemedia 3 роки тому +1

      @Rhizosphere, yeah I had both and I can say that while they both sound amazing I am more likely to grab a Grandmother again than a Matriarch. The raw sound of the Matriarch is great, just as good as Grandmother but Grandmothet feels more immediate to use. I really don't dig parphonic, it doesn't work with the way I want to play and so I tend to think of synths as either Poly or Mono and forget the paraphonic aspect because I just don't find it something I use all that much, and for the money and a mono I prefer the grandmother. Alot of things about the way the Matriarch was done I find frustrating, the way they implemented global settings for one. I sold both and got a Moog One, the raw sound isn't the same but it is absolutely a fantastic and capable synth that is well laid out and super intuitive. I think for me I have learned a big part of deciding on a synth isn't just sound but what you want to do with it and how it's laid out and whether or not that inspires creativity.

  • @mops58

    • @JohnTrasher
      @JohnTrasher  4 роки тому

      Also der Arp hat 3 Modi (up, down, up+down) und dann jeweils 1,2,alle Oktaven. Der poly D hat zwar mehr Varianten, aber da ich eh einen externen Sequenzer benutze, stört mich das nicht. Ich schätze es hängt davon ab, welchen Part der synth in der Komposition haben soll und was du noch für gear hast?

    Good comparison show. The polyD is the best. Behringer should of put a sequencer in the monopoly. Big mistake. The monopoly is too clean compared to the D. That's why I never bought it. I think the monopoly cross osc section creates too much harshness to make it effective. The korg mono poly wasn't an amazing success when it came out to be honest. I think it is over rated and you quickly bore of it. Behringer need to get the proper polys out not pretend polys. For all the hype they create. They still have only ever produced one poly too date after many years. What a Shame really it disappoints me.

Having an individual review of each of them fine, even in the same video but this one makes no sense to me. The monopoly has very specific features that the model D completely lacks so you are comparing apples with pears here. Very confusing.
