That was a really good game. Both teams were worthy of the win. The team who has the ball with minutes to go and a tie, usually wins the game, when teams are so evenly matched.
What I love about old broadcasts is that they were a bit more ...mechanical? I mean in the sense that there wasn't much on-screen information, so looking back it's cool to see and appreciate how they really had to be synchronized with the limited info the audience was given, then they had to fill in the right amount of extra stuff themselves. If you think about it, once the game started, the broadcast revolved around reminding the audience what down it was, and emphatically declaring whether or not they made the 1st down. This still happens in broadcasts now, but it's not as essential. Now we have a situation where deaf people can easily see everything they need, but blind people would be VISIBLY ANGRY during a broadcast. Back in the 1990's, it was almost certainly the blinds who'd've had it good, and the deafs who would've been "in the dark" so-to-speak. .....Gee, that veered a little off topic, but what are you gonna do?
Very true he was slow footed and had clumsy delivery probably from clavicle injury prior to ND from which he never appeared to recover from .. Holtz wanted Tommy Frazier and that would have helped him tremendously back then
“Let me tell you something about Notre Dame. In the next four years, they’re going to win the national title at least twice and Ron Powlus will win the Heisman Trophy at least twice.” - Beano Cook
And Ron Pawlus is good enough to play on Sundays right now! Was included in the quote by him also. All this after he had only played 1 game vs northwestern when they were still horrible. Beano was pompous fool. I remember him pretending there was audio problems after Penn st lost to Mich when they joined the Big ten. Because he was so sure Penn st would win and was to embarrassed to face interview .
Well in fairness, he did get 1 Heisman and was runner-up the other 3 years, and they lost in the national championship game on a shitty clipping call against Colorado in 1998 when they made the stupid move of taking McDougal out and putting Jarious at slot receiver. If the SWC and Big 8 hadn't merged, I'd've always said that, that, that, that, that, ....that the Pac-8 was "the best 8-team conference, if you don't count the ACC before Florida State joined, or the Big East once the golden era of Independents died off." Man I love football.
Your memory is not good. You are confusing the 1989 and 1990 Notre Dame seasons and the two Orange Bowl games. That national championship game against Colorado was New Year’s night of 1990 when ND was 11-1 versus an undefeated Colorado and won 21-6! The reason ND didn’t win the natty in 1989 is because they were soundly beaten by Miami 27-10 in November of 1989. The shitty clipping call on Rockets punt return was on New Year’s night 1991 when ND lost to Colorado 10-9 the following year. That’s when Colorado were 1990 co-national champions with Georgia Tech. Please check the records and your memory. And Kevin McDougal only started one season (1993) and never played with Jarious Jackson. McDougal had graduated before Jarious Jackson got to Notre Dame. Geez, your claims and memories were a long way from reality. In the future, please double check the records before you write things on these sites because they are wrong and are there for time and memorial. It may seem trivial but it’s also history of my favorite sports team on the planet. So, next time get it right before you write. Go Irish!
I'm from South Bend but a huge fan of both teams. When these 2 teams play I grab my popcorn and never as upset as if I would be if ND lost to anyone else other than Texas. Tennessee my 3rd team but I still wouldn't ever want them to beat ND nor Texas.
Poor Lou Holtz didn’t know Bob Davey was plotting to get him fired at this time. Ever since Bob Davy took over for Notre Dame they’ve not won a New Year’s six ball game. I call the Bob Davie curse.
They have more money than anyone in college football their boosters arrive to games in private planes.. they are loading up with Sarkisian though for sure with talent believe that
I think he will forever be the voice of college football.
True indeed 💯
Who
Yes indeed. Keith Jackson IS College football...
@@cwebedstuyThe announcer, Keith Jackson.
Texas and Notre Dame should play more
Texas had a Bishop (Octavius) at OT, a Priest (Holmes) at RB and a Godfather at QB (James Brown). How could they lose?😄
Lou holtz out coached teams
Good question. My Answer: They had a Mackovic running the whole show.

We were there at that game and even though I'm a Texan, my team is and always has been The Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame....
"Play like a Champion"
Wow man so cool what area were you seated in
@@stevenrose2114
End Zone behind the goal post.
@@robertocerda6534 that is soo cool man
Was at the game. Westbrook’s hit Shook the stands it was so powerful
The longhorns had Priest Holmes and Ricky Williams on the same depth chart holy shit
Great game! Autry Denson ran right over Texas!
I loved Autry Denson, he was small but a serious load, if he would of had that fifth gear, he would have been phenominal.
Its good to hear keiths voice. Grew up with him but never really appreciated it back then

Same
Not for me, he always rooted against Notre Dame he can kick rocks
Ron Powlus's stats were actually darned good considering how poorly suited he was for the offense Holtz ran.
Very true he was slow footed and had clumsy delivery probably from clavicle injury prior to ND from which he never appeared to recover from .. Holtz wanted Tommy Frazier and that would have helped him tremendously back then

I remember Beano cook saying that 😂😂

I was at this game... heart breaker, but great.

Texas has great fans though and made me happy to beat USC in one of the best games ever in 2006 title game😀
What I did not get was that series with the tip interception.. They should've just kept the ball on the ground it runned right at Notre Dame
Great game
They would be but the Politics. The old ranking system was horrendous
39:42: 4th and goal from the 6 and Notre Dame comes with a two tight end I formation.
Won't see that anymore.
Poor Lou Holtz didn’t know Bob Davey was plotting to get him fired at this time. Ever since Bob Davy took over for Notre Dame they’ve not won a New Year’s six ball game. I call the Bob Davie curse.
He stabbed Joe Moore in the back too what a POS excuse maker
Shon Mitchell, Ricky Williams, priest Holmes.....wow what an embarrassment of riches. Hopefully where about to have a similar RB room.
Truth. How they finished with a losing record the following year is inexcusable. No wonder Mackovic was sacked.
Other than the win against Nebraska, Mackovic did not do well at Texas.
May I request Texas at Virginia 1996? North Carolina at Virginia in 1996 as well.
Sadly I don't have either game. The UNC game is on youtube, but is posted by the ACC network and I can't repost from their copy.
I don’t understand Texas, they should be a dynasty.
No kidding
They have more money than anyone in college football their boosters arrive to games in private planes.. they are loading up with Sarkisian though for sure with talent believe that
When you play Texas, you also have to play against the referees. 2 against 1.
Nice! ☘️
The Horns Should have won this game against Ol' nemesis Notre Dame...But they Didn't !...They had their chances (Should have run Ricky MORE).
John Makovic was a nice guy but average game day coach at best
The best coach Texas ever had was from Oklahoma.?
GO IRISH
Notre Dame #RoadWarriors
GO IRISH!
BobDavies..waste of space
Ron Powlus was a bum
