My best memory of meeting Joey was after a Murderdolls concert, after the gig at their bus, chatting away, getting autographs etc, took a step back and I tripped over the bands pile of empty beer bottles, went head over heels, knocking them everywhere, Joey just pointed at me, and said "That's alcohol abuse" before giving me a hand in getting back up. An amazing, quick witted genuine guy all round. We all miss him so much!

Joey cried cuz he got to play with metallica. The band he grew up listening to, and a band he idolized. He had an awesome opportunity to play with them live. Now all these years later, Jay Weinberg gets to play with the band HE idolized and loved. Thats some heartwarming shit. Full circle i guess in a way. Rest in peace Joey. Youre gone but never forgotten. Your legacy will live on forever.

I was at Download that year. Thought they were going to cancel. Then James came on stage and said Lars wasn't going to be there, he fell ill at a gig the night before in Scotland, and said we've got some friends to help us out. Joey Jordison, Slayer's Dave Lombardo and one of the roadies. It was amazing and a once in a lifetime thing. Also, saw Metallica do a secret gig at Download Festival in one of the smaller tent stages. I've never felt so lucky as a Metallica fan ❤

I saw Joey (Jordison) perform three times; twice with Slipknot and once with Rob Zombie (2010). Joey seemed to be unlimited in his musical knowledge and his abilities; plus, a true "work horse" of a musician. He performed with various other acts, including KoRn. Which, I loved how he made KoRn speed up their tempos a bit and because of that he made KoRn rule. I love KoRn but they tend to be a little slow sometimes. Not with Joey, he made them work and keep up.
An example? KoRn song "Here To Stay." Listen to the recorded version. Then listen to a live version and the tempo is usually a little slower than recorded or about at the recorded version. Then listen to the live version(s) with Joey and it is noticeably a faster tempo; 'cause Joey is (was) a true metal warrior of a musician and he knew how to perform in any situation.
I'm very, very sorry Joey Jordison is gone. He had true heart, and true talent. Gone way too young.

I'm glad I found this, I was friends with Joey since their first album just from hitting it off with him when we hung out, slipknot toured with bands I knew or shot photos of and we always crossed paths. Metallica has been my favorite band since 1991. I got to hear Joey's stories about living my dream of playing with my favorite band. He did say the tuning room blew him away but everything on stage moved so fast and he couldn't see much through his mask but at one point looked up and saw Hetfield standing in front of the kit raging with him and he said it was so surreal. He had tears telling me about it, and I got chills. Me and him would have acoustic Metallica jams on his bus after shows and he'd always make me play the intro of "to live is to die" for clown and anyone else who came in. I miss my old friend, thanks for putting this video up honoring him and one of the best moments he had in his life

That was the first gig Lars had missed in Metallicas career so Joey ( along with Fleming Larson and Dave Lombardo) got to do something unbelievably rare and play with the biggest Metal band of all time and i am around the same age as Joey would be now and for all us kids born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s Metallica is as important as it gets, i don't know if younger people get how Groundbreaking they were and how EVERY Metal head teen or Kid who picked up a Guitar or Drums ( yes Lars Haters he is one of the most important and inspirational Drummers in History) we all wanted to be Metallica!
So for him to have that experience must have been insane, i don't know if i could have gotten through a song without messing up , not because of the crowd but because i would have James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett ( and Rob , but he was new then ) in front of me !
Watching the performance he does a good job with Creeping Death and Sandman and Seek and Destroy but you could tell he was playing on pure adrenaline and nerves by his rushed tempo.
    But i get it .....
    Joey is missed! 0:17

Joey's death has probably hit me more than any other, he has been a hero of mine from the first moment I heard of him play, the disasterpeices solo and creeping death with Metallica were probably my personal favourites,
Very unfortunate not to see him live, was supposed to see slipknot at reading festival 08 but Joey had broken his ankle and couldn't play, and when I finally got lucky enough to catch slipknot live it was after he was let go, jay Weinberg is an incredible drummer, but he isn't Joey and missing out on seeing him live is something Il regret for the rest of my life!
    RIP #1
