    Pan + dawn detergent and boiling water. Remove filter and put in that solution, wait 30 minutes, remove, rinse and let it dry for 30 minutes and voila, brand new filter. No baking soda, its abrasive for metal.

    THANK U so much Mashka for making this video. You helped me save around $140 by not having to buy new grease filters for my hood/vent above my kitchen range. I had to take the pot of hot water/baking soda outside in the yard since the grease was filling up the kitchen air, and I also used a bbq scrubber to scrape off the tough grease.

    thank you so much for this idea! I just tried it, and it totally worked on my metal hood filter. I discovered that if I placed the top of the pot gently over the pot as best as possible that the process time cut in half! :)

    If you put hot water and borax in an aluminum broiler pan and soak the filter for a while, when you pull it out, you will be amazed that it is practically clean with out scrubbing at all. (not sure if it has to be an aluminum pan but that is what I used.)

      I think it's a great idea! One of my friends moved into apartment ( renting) with microwave in very dirty condition, so she was trying to buy a new filter but it was old model so she couldn't find one and replacing microwave was too expensive. So she used my method for cleaning and she was super happy with the results.

      Microwave Filter???? Where would it be at on a microwave? Never knew a microwave had a filter??

    • @Mashka1000
      @Mashka1000  4 роки тому +1

      @@TKWkw thank you for your comment. if you have over the range microwave it has the filter at the bottom ( kind of under the microwave itself) if you have free standing it might not have a filter because nothing is cooking under it.

      If you have deep baking sheets, or pan that you would use for turkey on thanksgiving, and maybe do the whole thing in the oven? Not sure how big your filter is and what are your options in the kitchen, but I'd try do it in the oven, the only thing is I would boil water first, mix it with baking soda, place a filter in the pan and pour soda mixture over it, while it's kind of in the oven. But please be careful…maybe in your case buying new filter is the only option, good luck, thank you for watching,

    How to clean the grill of a microwave oven when it has a mesh cover? When I try to use the grill function the smoke and smell is awful. There is no obvious way to remove the mesh. Its old but I love it. Its one of the first Whirlpool crisp grill microwaves. I have had it for around 27 years and its still working perfectly. Apart from the greasy grill which I can't access

    I used this method to clean the over range filter and kept the water boiling for about half an hour. Unfortunately all the plastic threads from the filter just came out. I can't use that filter anymore. We might be better off putting the filter in boiling water and turning the gas off. Will have to try that.

    • @Mashka1000
      @Mashka1000  9 років тому +1

      321baban123 Plastic is rather delicate material that can't withstand hot water, I wouldn't heat it at all.

      @Mashka1000  6 років тому +1

      Thank you for your comment. It depends on the brush. Some of them would help, some of them would create additional mess ( literally). The idea is to get rid of this dirt and once the filter is relatively clean, you can use brush to complete cleaning process.
