Very interesting race for sure. Both cars are seriously impressive, but that GTI being able to make full power and torque on 87 without any octane boost, without any octane learning, and still keep up is so dope.
The mk8 will make it's rated crank HP to the wheels on a dyno on 87 and get nearly 40 mpg. A bone stock mk8 can run E85 with no other hardware and just a tune and make around 350 wheel hp and even more torque depending on the tuner.
I got a decent amount of heat in the comments of past videos when I claimed something was off. Finally, things make sense. Thanks for doing another comparison

i think we have to reach the conclusion these cars are closer in straight line speed than ppl want to admit. which Car and Driver testing supports. EN was 13.4 @ 106 and GTI DSG was 13.6 @ 105. both great cars tbh!
In addition, in the real world, both cars can get better times than what C&D says. There are countless videos of ENs getting low 13s consistently both on a prepped drag strip and on unprepped roads. There are even a couple videos of stock ENs getting high 12s in the 1/4 mile. The GTI can get lower times than C&D too, especially if they replace the stock tires with good summer tires.
@@davothegreat9990 I present to you a stock Elantra N hitting high 12s in the 1/4 mile with a time slip. This feels accurate as an MK8 GTI owner. The Elantra N is definitely faster but the difference shouldn’t be 5+ car lengths like in that sam auto legion (or whatever his name is) video
Should have ran it 87 octane gti vs 91 octane Elantra. Should have swapped passengers too to even it out somewhat too the N got two advantages. Octane booster and no passenger vs the gti.
I bet whatever additive you’re using is right on the edge of the octane the N is looking for and sometimes it’s running better than others. I had a 93 tune on my gti and I could literally feel a difference when it was in the higher octane map vs when it was pulling timing (always ran 93 but it was hit and miss). I started running a gallon or 2 of e85 with every tank and it always ran good then. I’d research running a gallon or 2 of e85 on the N and see if that’s safe and if so I’d try it.
That. Boostane. Is. Not. Good. It. Puts a orange. Coating. On spark plugs. Car will run like. Crap It works. But once you use. About 2 bottles. Spark plugs are toast. Made my car shit off few times I even felt. Car was slower. New. Plugs. No. More boostane .
Yea, if you use it every time you fill up, but I don't. I use it maybe once a month and I fill up 4-6 times a month. Spark plugs are still fine. Thanks for the concern🤙🏼
The N DCT should be pulling on that GTI easy every time the last video I swore the other GTI WAS TUNED or had something going on he wasn’t telling you.
Don't underestimate the GTI, they advertised 241hp turned out to be to the wheels, which translates to around 270-280hp, close the Elantra's advertised power. It shouldn't be an "Easy" win for the N , it doesn't make any sense.
Not sure, definitely weird. Maybe the other one just ran better? Who knows haha. At least we know Jordyn's EN isn't "slower" than a different one like some people were suggesting
(I’m the GTI owner) i actually wasn’t running 87 pump when i ran the Elantra since the dealer told me to put the 91 in it because i had a CEL at the time. So maybe if i actually ran the 87 it would’ve gave me a little bit of a power bump because the GTI is supposed to be ran on 87 for most efficiency. My GTI is all stock.
So the gti has non stock tires and pulled ahead from the dig. Could that be a factor? This is a great comparison, GTi's have always held their own but id get the N.
The hyundais suffer from the stupidest tuning technology I have ever seen. The whole "octane learn" makes the cars so incredibly unpredictable and inconsistent. Most cars work the complete opposite. They give you full power and just pull timing if lower quality fuel is used. Nope not hyundai. Those cars make you prove to the computer that you have higher octane and it will eventually give the car full power if you meet a list of criteria. So stupid.
100% agree. I am an Aussie owner of a 2024 EN and it definitely is the most stupid thing on the car by a lot. And a majority of the time it won't even octane learn.
I only use shell v power 91 and have tried the octane learning in the manual so many times and I still cant get to learn it. It always caps it at 15 or 16 psi
@JVette01 it could be heatsoak also because you're in Arizona. But I heard if you cut the resonators on an N it gives you more top end and that could be helping the Black N keep up.

Sadly, the stock fuel pump on the EN is not flex fuel and can damage pistons and spark plugs if mixing any e blends
