- The Canon EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter on the Canon C70 is actually a great feature for me because I often have to change lenses in the wild! I hate getting dust inside my cameras so this extra layer of protection is actually desirable for my style of work. It is tempting to switch over to R lenses but I just can't see ever giving up on my Canon EF lenses. In this video I also talk about the screen/monitor that everyone hates about this camera. I also briefly talk about battery life. Special shout out to @SoundItOutFilms for making great C70 videos!

Spent a year in Vancouver as a writer on tv series MACGYVER (original--which we shot up there)...no surprise you're dealin in dirt...all the guys I hung out with up there were as rugged as you could meet(loggers, cops, XFL footballers). I just bought the C70 last week and I am invested in RF glass... Unfortunately most of my RF glass looks horrible in super 35. I'm really sad about it I love the form factor of the C70 but I am really really let down that now I have no idea what lenses to get maybe a 16 to 35

I have seen mini-XLR-Adapters with a 90-degree-angle, so the cable will run straight up to the top handle. Can ´t tell by which manufacturer though. I usually mount a Zoom F 3 on my cage and use the line-in to bake the sound files directly into my footage while I will have 32-bit-float files as a backup for the worst-case scenario

Hey thanks for kind words Scottie! I had the R5C but had to return it because battery life was killing me (for what I mainly shoot). I wish I still had it though.
The lack of EVF is the big thing that kept me from buying the C70 when it came out - now with the firmware updates it's really tempting. I own a C100 M2 and once you have built in NDs very hard to go back. I also find the glass that protects the ND filters and sensor is pretty good. That said, dust is always a nemesis and something to pay attention to-
I love the C70, but always use EF glass with adapter, and an external monitor so that I don’t touch that weak-jointed floppy screen. Yeah, I get cables blocking it too.

How did you get started getting business with video? Seems like people that are contacting me don't really have the pocketbook for an R5C's C70 combo
Yeah this is a tough one with a lot of variables. Personally I just stopped taking smaller low budget jobs that were a waste of time and focused on getting better clients. I think it depends what kind of market you live in too. The smaller the town usually means the smaller the budget. Honestly, the real way I built up my business is from word of mouth. No reels, no business cards, no advertising...just good old fashioned networking.
@@RinkVideo Yes similar to the guy you watched on the C70 I am traveling from Boston everyday as a truck driver and then trying to hustle photo and video plus UA-cam on the side. I'm trying to link up with homeboy over there we'll see if he responds.
I'm wondering what the maximum lens weight would be safe to use without the side brackets, I don't plan on using anything heavier than the 24-105mm f/4 IS II but I have a couple of RF lenses I like to swap in every now and then and don't have time to be dealing with the screws on the brackets. That’s a great question that I would love to know the answer to.
I guess better safe than sorry, will probably just end up using them, got this adapter on the way. The 24-105mm is the only EF lens I own at the moment, and with this adapter it becomes a f/2.8 all in one type lens with stabilization. @@RinkVideo
Not to mention the adapter makes the camera full frame! Which can't be done with RF glass. Derp! EF for life
If the audio line is long, wrap it around the handle and connect it to c70
get a longer audio cable where it can drop lower and you can come up under the viewer

The Zacuto zfinder on the LCD has been a game changer for me. I had been avoiding it and using a EVF. The zfinder is so much better to me.
The canon speedbooster makes the sensor equivalent to larger than full frame
Nobody loves Canon 0.71x adapter because it has purple flare. Does your Canon 0.71x adapter have this issue? Thank you.

The monitor isn't the best, but I still prefer it over the FX series (minus the mounting method, which is insane consider how beefy the c100 mount used to be). It's brighter (when set to +2 in the luminance) than most other monitors, and it's higher resolution too. I literally run it at +2 luminance at almost all times since it's quite dim out of the box, and Canon really should have made that setting read as backlight cause luminace is confusing.
AVD! I dropped the ball by saying the monitor sucks. I meant to say the build quality of the monitor (especially the hinge) sucks. I 100% agree with you about the luminance…I set mine to +2 out of the box and haven’t changed it since. Great point! 👍
@@RinkVideo Yah the hinge sucks! They addressed it a little bit in later models, but agreed it's not up to their standards.
Bottom mounts on the C70: get the small-rig bottom plate. Very minimal and low profile, and adds normal holes like a C100.
Backlit old cameras on a self, yep, funny...
