It's worth mentioning that the heater water control valve on the top of the head should be open before running the engine and topping up the coolant. It should be left in the open position permanently especially if you have a heated inlet manifold otherwise there will be no water circulation.
Honestly there is very little benefit for me in the southern US either. In fact it removes my cooling potential. I just love all the extra space in the cabin! :-D
I replaced my heat core last month, since it was leaking! It is really a easy job to do, despite the mess that the cooling does in the interior. I strongly recommend remove the carpet before you make the job.
Enjoying your DIY Mini how to videos. Had a related question to this video. You don’t mention the heater valve. I see how you bypassed the heater core, but is it necessary for coolant to still flow this path if you aren’t warming the intake. I’m assuming the heater valve is still bolted to the cylinder head port? I’m assuming you are leaving the valve closed so as not to bypass coolant by the radiator. The 1/2” ID will flow a lot of coolant with the valve open added to the volume of the factory bypass. Thanks for any insight. I
Interested in doing this and fitting an aftermarket air con. But, will the engine be running hotter as you are reducing the cooling capacity or is it a negligible change?
I performed the heater delete per this video successfully; however one thing that may have been missed was removing the Hot/Cold cable from the engine and interior. Do you happen to have any docs/references for how to remove the section where the main switches are? such as Headlights, hazards, brake test, etc.?
The haynes manual might be a good place to start although I am not sure there are any direct references on how to remove that area. Could you take a photograph of the way yours looks and I can give some guidance on how to take it apart. Email me at classicminidiy@gmail.com
Thanks for this video! Is there anything I would need to be worried about with regard to air in these hoses now? Does it all get pushed round to the radiator, or can it get 'stuck' in the engine somewhere?
I recommend running the car for a few mins , letting it cool back down and topping up the radiator. I would do that 3-4 times to make sure there isn't any excessive air in there. Air Pockets can super heat and burst causing head gasket damage which is not super likely but it can for sure happen. The radiator's themselves have overflow tubes which allow excessive coolant to flow out so overfilling the radiator is pretty difficult. Hope that helps!
Hey buddy, been following on my personal account for a while getting my new vlog channel up and running, love the videos man, they have helped me no end! Will give you a shout out on my next video :) Cheers
RosieJonesRules main reason I would see for removing your heater is preparing for an interior restoration or rewiring your car. Although there could be an argument made for weight reduction if the car is going to be used in a racing application.

Being in the UK, removing the heater is madness :D

Yes if you don't have a shop vac to suck all that coolant out removing the carpet is a must!
Excellent video! Continue working well and hard.
Thank you!

Classic Mini DIY thanks for the info!

Subscribed! :-)
Classic Mini DIY that means alot. Thank you :)
I want to do the opposite - my '69 van didnt come with a heater and I want to install one.
Just watch the video in reverse and you have yourself a heater! :-)
Why would you remove a heater? For what purpose?

I did it and im happy
I just got mine and it has AC, it doesn’t work so I might be removing all of that
Instead of the screw, try to use a simple and old AAA battery...it just works fine and easily passes through the fire wall hole....
This is a great tip. Thanks for this.
