  • Does the ‪@RYOBITOOLSUSA‬ PCL406 Random Orbital Sander have what it takes to do real work? Powered by the One+ 18-volt battery, the electric motor delivers up to 10,000 OPM (Oscillations Per Minute) to the 5-inch pad. You get a hook & loop (velcro) pad to easily attach and remove sanding discs, with holes for dust extraction built-in. An onboard dust bag catches any particulate while sanding without a dust extractor. Remove the bag and you can easily connect any 1-1/4" or 1-7/8" vacuum hose. You can get this RYOBI PCL406 18V sander from the ‪@HomeDepot‬ for just $59 for the bare tool and it comes with a 3-year warranty.

      I too have the old version and it don’t quit…I got a corded makita random orbital sander that I love, but when it comes to quick sanding, or wanting to sand something outside of my shop nothing beats that little ryobi. It also does a good job..it use to be my primary sander for a little over a year…I completed tons of builds with it and it’s still going strong…you can’t beat the price especially for how well it works. I’m almost tempted to buy the new one cause I’ve seen them on sale for 59.99 with a ho battery

    Would love to see a speed dial and brushless HP version. I'd damn sure go out and buy one then!!! Might seriously consider this one though as all my sanders are corded and that really limits what I can do as a mobile installer. Til I make a decision, my 3M sanding block and sweet beautiful purple sandpaper (also 3M and I absolutely love it) will keep things buttery smooth!!

    I just ordered the the battery kit that home depot has. Two 4ah batteries and charger for $100 and the sander comes with it. I'm excited for this. Been finding projects at goodwill that I like to sand and stain. I originally had a sander attachment for my drill and the circle it leaves is really noticeable which is why I jumped on the deal home depot had.

    I got the previous P411 version for my parents on sale for $29 and I thought this one would be just a re-packaging of the old one but it definitely looks like small improvements here and there.
    For the price, though, the previous one was hard to pass on.

    5/24: I've had one of these for almost a year now. I used it for sanding exterior vertical surfaces on my house, prior to painting. The sanding function is excellent BUT the on/off switch is absolutely awful. You can even see the demonstrator search for the off switch [8:33] on in this video. You have to really dig your finger straight into the switch. It needs the switches located on opposite sides of unit to make it easier to turn the unit on & off. The dust collection bag works very well in collecting dust, when it stays on the unit, which on vertical surfaces is almost never. The until really needs a speed control.

    So if I push down with pressure the wheel stops turning, is that correct operation.
    Or just let it sand with its own weight?

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  Рік тому +1

      Yes, if you push down hard, the rotation will stop. The orbits will continue, but it won't spin. This is the correct operation. Random Orbital means that the orbits are geared or forced, and the spinning is Random, or is just a gyro effect from the orbiting. Just apply a little pressure and let the sander do the work. Thanks for watching.

    They made made us wait a decade with the noisy, forearm crushing P411 , for this??! Not brushless, not even variable speed.. Shameful Ryobi!
    Brushless on a sander makes all the difference in runtime and not burning out motors/brushes. Ryobi should at least have a higher tier brushless model by now.
    I broke ranks and went yellow a couple years ago over this , picking up their brushless orbital . It's a dream..

  • @theperfectpaintertoolreview
    @theperfectpaintertoolreview 2 роки тому

    the problem I've found with any Ryobi sander is actually the batteries. the fuel gauge button gets wood dust inside and stops working. I guess it clogs the contacts and fuel gauge stops working. multiple batteries did this to me

    Since Ryobi is under the same company as Milwaukee, hopefully this means they are going to release an update to the Milwaukee orbital sander soon. If Milwaukee does release a newer model, it NEEDS to be brushless. I don't see why this Ryobi wasn't.

    • @guardianali

      Brushless isnt deal breaker for me. In this case. It adds some extra weight to the unit to give it that desired light downward pressure without the need to push down as much yourself

      @@slylockfox85 Problem is not everyone would as it's a Budget brand, so harder to justify the higher price. The Ryobi HP tools are brushless but plenty of people complain about the higher price for them, for example, and start saying things like just go to a pro brand then...

    • @slylockfox85
      @slylockfox85 2 роки тому +2

      @@ZeoCyberG I don't think a lot of people are aware of the benefits of brushless vs brushed, at least not homeowners. I think tool brands could do a better job of trying to educate the average homeowner about the tradeoffs via in-store displays. If you had asked me about this 8 years ago, I'd probably be in the group of people complaining about brushless being too expensive. But I didn't understand the benefits of brushless at the time. And even then, it's one thing to hear about the benefits of brushless, but when you see it in action compared to brushed, it's hard to go back.

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 2 роки тому

      @@slylockfox85 Partly true, but it's also because the difference isn't always enough to convince people the difference in price is worth it if the brushless tool is good enough and will still do the job and last as long as they need it to. While, it becomes a harder sell when the Pro Tool option is only a little bit more in price and people will expect more from the pro tool brand... Not to mention the same reason people shop in places like Minards or Harbor Freight, sometimes they just want a cheap tool because that's all they're willing to spend or that's the limit of their budget right now... So can be the case even when knowing full well the difference that brushless brings...
