I think we can all agree that steel frames look SICK.

I guess I'm an outlier who thinks that steel frames look like a collection of plumbing pipe tacked together, compared to a modern hydroformed aluminum frame with elegantly designed swooping angles. That being said, I specifically paid extra the steel version of my hardtail mountain bike, but for compliance and durability reasons.

DH frames in particular. I love the elegant shapes of my v10 but purely looks wise I prefer something more industrial looking like an atherton or frameworks bike. Interestingly I prefer the looks of my 5010 over the atherton trailbike..

Great to see the project progressing Neko. I am going to get pedant/nerd on one little bit. The bend in the 853 down tube didn't make it weaker, but it definitely made the frame less stiff. The bend was quite shallow radius to keep the strength up, but that puts the down tube quite a long way out ahead of the bb so when the ride loads the frames laterally it's easier for it to "swing" out of line compared to if the down tube was straight and just went directly to the BB. Because of the shock location you can't run the down tube straight though.
One of the wins on this frame compared to the earlier Cotic frame is the 3D printed "elbow". That allows a shorter down tube with way tighter bend, so the down tube is much more in line with the BB. That reduces the "swing" effect. 3D printing was the only way to achieve that, and I have no experience there, whereas Adam does so we let him get on with. Super nice job. Looks great!

I have a Steezl and absolutely love it. I’d love to have a steel Frameworks DH rig with Adam’s craftsmanship.

It honestly sounds like the aluminum bike is the better option for hardcore racers, but the steel bike might be better for a 50+ retired racer like me.

Very nice looking bike, very clean lines. It would be crazy to compare/make a prototype with Magnesium ,same material used in Vaast bikes. I think Titanium do not make too much sense, but it could be pretty cool too. Those thin tubes are lovely compared to many modern bikes. I think you would sell a few of them tomorrow if that came to your web.

I'm a big lover of Big Steel Tubes! I built mine with an 1 3/4" .049 straight wall tube. Using a SC Bullit swing arm it gets 9 1/2" of travel and feels Solid without beating you up. I don't know an exact number, but it's not crazy heavy. Keep up the good work!

Still enjoying this series, so refreshing hearing the reasoning and clear explanations as to why you do some things or prefer different things. Something I think would be quite interesting would be to loan out this steel frame and an alu one, to reviewers/sites and hear what a more avg rider thinks of the steel frame vs alu, 'cause I'm fairly certain most wouldn't be able to push the bike as hard as you can, so maybe that flex/compliance would be appreciated by the "Avg Joe".

Interesting point. The Pinkbike test of the Frameworks aluminium bike did say it was pretty damn stiff! Would love to know what they thought of the steel bike

I know your goal is a racing frame, but with the recent releases of both Marin and Knolley’s park oriented bikes you might consider this developing this frame for that market maybe as a fundraiser for the team or as a completely separate project strictly for rental fleets

I love steel frames. I think the bicycle industry needs to keep advancing steel and not just move to aluminum and carbon.
As far as bottom bracket side flex, I am not sure if you mentioned it, but is the seat tube ovalized left to right at the BB shell? I know some BMX race frames did that back in the day to reduce that side flex.

Just from esthetic point of view - some cleverly done cut-outs from the linkage will significantly improve the looks of the bike.

What if you add a center rib with holes drilled to save weight. The lateral strength of the rib would prevent frame twisting under loads. I was lucky enough to fall into downhill racing in the 90s and i spent some time with master fabricator Frank Wadelton. I love the building of bikes as much as I love riding them
