I always battle with the idea of these. I would love to get a dime slime but then I start thinking well if I’m having to do a full setup and change all the parts out plus the possibility of import fees and it getting seized is it really worth it? This was a great video that pretty well covered everything.
Thanks so much! Honestly, if you have the patience, building your own is way more rewarding. I have a tele that I built years ago with a Floyd and I far prefer it to these. You hit the nail on the head - there are a lot of variables beyond your control that you’re gambling on with these. Cheers! 🎸🍻
I’ve always bought these through second hand from American Buyers on EBay or any marketplace, but mostly eBay. Way less of a gamble and 9/10 you see the actual guitar in the photos to make a decision. I own one of these with a Fender Trem and all I did was upgrade the pickups and knobs and switch. Bridge was already swapped with a USA Fender ‘57 reissue bridge and Schaller tuners. So for me, the price was a steal for work I could do myself anyways. Thats another huge deciding factor is whether you can handle the misgivings from the guitar yourself.
As I started watching this vid I checked out AliExpress because I thought it would be cool to have even though it's low quality. Then it got to the part where you said the neck was a log and that was the end of that idea, I'd want to play it and hate thick necks. Then I spotted one that maybe looked more like what I think they called the Concord??? but the head has Jackxon on the head, a cross between an "s" and an "x" in the name and dunno if custom's would let it through. That was a customer review pic, another listing shows nothing on the headstock, other listings don't show the head LOL. Also the question if the neck is again like a log.
The neck is a baseball bat on these - very challenging to play. The other models you’re taking about are counterfeit Jacksons. If you order one and say nothing to the seller about the logo, it will show up branded “Jackson” or whatever other brand it’s a counterfeit of. This happened to me with the 5150 guitar I ordered from them. It showed up with a “Kramer” logo on the headstock. For the Mick Mars one I bought, I asked the seller to leave the headstock blank with no logo. They did this and shipped it to me unbranded and no problems. Customs could be a problem with any trademark logo on there. Hope that helps! I’ve got some videos of the other two on here if you’re curious about the process. Cheers! 🍻🎸
Hi, im interested into buying a Red special in AliExpress since they are quite cheap, but what are thedetails that can come wrong or flopped on a AliExpress guitar?
There are a lot of things that can and likely will be “off” with an Ali guitar. I’ve had three of these now and I wouldn’t say any of them were perfect. If you’re curious about how terrible this one was, check out this video I did on it quite some time ago shortly after getting it: AliExpress Rhoads V Review ua-cam.com/video/GzWxCm2aLWU/v-deo.html I’ve also got a few other reviews on two different AliExpress guitars you can find on my channel. Both were slightly better than this one out of the box.
BUT, you can already buy nice husks (no hardware no nothing but a guitar) of Gibson's and Fenders and other brands for pretty cheap. I bought a 97 Gibson SG Special (Ebony fret board) for $400 and I restored it with the correct hardware...but the guy sells mainly stripped down husks for good prices.
Honestly, with this one, aside from the finish, a lot would probably be better quality in a kit 🤣. In all fairness, 2 out of the 3 guitars I’ve purchased from AliExpress have been mostly fine. Decent bodies and necks with ok hardware/electronics, but 100% they all need better bridges. I guess it depends on the model you choose. This one in particular was painful. I had much better luck with the 5150 and Mick Mars guitars (there are some reviews of those on here as well). 🎸🍻

Little bit of Quidi Vidi Calm Tom’s Double IP should make that thing sing!
That stuff could make anything sing! 🤣👌🍻
Very informative. I always wondered what duties/custom fees you pay when you order from Aliexpress.
It’s really a luck of the draw, hit or miss scenario. It’s a bit strange this is the only one that I’ve been hit with fees for so far 🤷♂️.

I can’t remember what the stock length was, but this GOTOH is 37mm. Cheers!
you stil have that fake FR? Im interested in it for a project guitar for my dads first guitar im building. I wanna use it as a fixed bridge
Long gone my man. I think I traded it for a few tall cans of beer some years ago. 🤣🍻🎸
@@dexdeimos425 figured as such. was worth a shot. lol im sure i can find a better bridge anyway around here
Argghhhhhh.... what a NIGHTMARE! Honestly... you should just make a video smashing these AliExpress garbage guitars 😆
Bwahahaha - I did consider it with this one. The other two were significantly better. 🤣🤦♂️🎸
so basically you are buying a kit that you need to fix up
