How to play Smooth up in ya solo by Bulletboys

A full tutorial on how to play Mick Sweda's iconic solo on the Bulletboys tune "Smooth up in ya". This is a big and challenging solo, so please use the times stamps to find specific sections. I've transcribed this from the original studio recording and referenced Mick's live playing in the 80s as well to piece all of this together - I believe this to be a very accurate lesson. you stil have that fake FR? Im interested in it for a project guitar for my dads first guitar im building. I wanna use it as a fixed bridge
Ohh i have the royal purple
I know it sucks that karl sandoval is losing out on alot of business but in china there is no such thing as copyright laws so what can you do? Nothing. Guitar looks nice
It’s definitely the Wild West over there, that’s for sure!
Hi, do you have a video/review on the Wilkinson floyd sttle bridge you mentioned?
Check out this review - I go through quite a few Wilkinson parts that ended up on this guitar and the bridge is one of them. Wilkinson pickups and locking trem - Profile Superstrat Upgraded! ua-cam.com/video/iI00ampIR2M/v-deo.html You might want to check out this video of that guitar before the mods for a comparison of before and after: ua-cam.com/video/2rj24xbElzo/v-deo.htmlsi=ikVktbFIs1vUQ9wc
As a truck driver who works at the ports of Los Angeles/ Long Beach, I can guarantee you Customs isn't doing anything.
Sounds awesome, can't wait to hear us put this together this weekend.
Thanks! Yeah, it should go well as long as I can remember where to stick it! 🤣🙏🎸
Great playing! 🙂🎸
Thanks so much! 🙏🍻🎸
😳 Dang! Great job. I’ve always loved this song and solo. Know I know “how” to play it now all I need to do is get it up to speed…😳 the hardest part. Thanks bro
Thanks! Glad you liked this one and found it useful! 🙏🍻🎸
lovely looking bit of kit dont catch many tele style guitars with the trems on
Thanks! 🙏 Totally - not the most common configuration. 🎸🍻
@@dexdeimos425 for sure, awesome video tho dude sounds like a beast
Great review, new subscriber. 👍🎸
Thanks so much! Glad to have your sub to the channel! 🙏🎸🍻
I know a guy who has a Washburn Wonder Bar bridge on all of his guitars. 15 guitars to be exact. He's a luthier so his opinion is based on some experience. He says that they are the best locking trem ever and he says that you get killer tone because of how big and chunky they are. I tried his tele with the wonder bar vs my BC Rich Gunslinger with origional Floyd and I could hear and even feel a difference for sure. Not enough to make me scour the internet looking for wonder bar trem, but I can see his point.
I’ve really got to get my hands on one of these trems! I heard the playing action in them is super smooth too! 🤯🍻🎸
I also have a Tour 24 in black with red, mine's an '85 model (interestingly made in the same factory as my '85 Fender contemporary tele). Mine has a Wonderbar fitted, so no rear routing. I found the pickuos to be weak and nondescript, so fitted a pair of Dragonfire phat screamers (simply because they did red/black zebra ones) and it was a huge improvement, the thing bites! I also fitted both volumes (mine has three knobs rather than two) with push/push pots for coil splits. Great guitar. Oh, one thing - the red inlays absolutely will become invisible under stage lights and you'll be flying blind, I gig mine a lot
Yours sounds killer! You’ll have to post up a video of it - I’ve heard of the three knob ones but never seen one. Thanks for the tip about the dots with stage lighting - I’ve had that happen with a different guitar before. Definitely not a cool feeling live! 🤣🙏🎸🍻
I chicago force 3 in a charcoal with metalic flake its hss with push pull vol it came with the same kkt tremolo as yours but i swapped it out for a kkt2. I've never seen another force 3 with its specs it's an absolute weapon, I've got a few old washburns but my g8v is my main workhorse. 🤘
Sounds like a super rare and awesome axe! Cheers! 🎸🍻
I love that color. I love my 80s Roadstar and Roadster.
Dude, great job 👍🏻 thanks for sharing
Thanks so much - glad you liked it! 🙏🎸🍻
Very cool the 80s was my absolute favorite time for music
Thanks! 🙏 Totally agree - killer music and epic guitars!🎸🍻
Haven't bought a new guitar in ears. I look at them periodically on the internet I don't believe I've seen a Washburn guitar in 10 years do they are they still making them any Washburn guitars
Yes, I believe they are still making guitars - definitely the Nuno models anyway. Good point, I don’t think I’ve seen any new Washburns aside from the Nuno models in years myself! The only other Washburn I have is from 1986!! 🤣 I wonder what’s going on with the brand? 🤷♂️🎸
I also have a BBR Tour 24 in similar condition to your own, though in my case it's equipped with a Kahler Flyer trem which looks like it's stock as the back of the body isn't routed for a Floyd/Fender style unit. Works amazingly well, though it does have the traditional Kahler-related issues of breaking strings at the ball ends if you're not careful (don't pull it back - EVER!!). Agreed that the neck's not the slimmest, and the frets are surprisingly small, too, but it's a really comfortable guitar to play and it sounds great. Yes, mine weighs a ton, too! Reminds me of the '77 Yamaha SG2000 I used to own in that respect. Bought mine off EBay UK for about $500 in 2019, have very rarely seen others come up since. Thanks for reviewing and nice playing!!
Thanks so much! 🙏🎸 Sounds like you’ve got yourself quite a killer and rare axe! Those Kahler style tremolos look super neat - thanks for the tip about the strings breaking! I didn’t know that was an issue. 🤯 The only Kahlers I’ve played are the late 80s Spyder trems, which are really more of a Floyd Rose king of thing. Cheers! 🍻
A friend of my dad gifted me this guitar and still today 10 years later is still the best guitar I have ever played. (Still changed to EMG pickups though)
No doubt - great guitars! Glad to hear you’ve hung onto it all these years and still play it! 👍🎸🍻
I've covered it with band stickers as a teenager! Also, I recently installed a killswitch on it and with the active pickups it's a monster of a guitar.. So light and comfortable to play. It even stays in tune pretty well. 10/10 🎸for me!
The Floyd Rose special are on $1,300 guitars you Left that part out..
Great looking and sounding tele!!
Thanks Matt! 🙏🎸
I like the Vandenberg behind you. At least i think its a Vandenberg. Looking back to see if you've ever played it on your channel. Anyway, now i want a shred tele.
Yep! It’s a Vandenberg! I haven’t played it a ton on the channel, but did use it on #rapidlick47 : ua-cam.com/video/C44fXntzL1Y/v-deo.htmlsi=2oyLfshYiabFLUyp You should totally go for a shred Tele! They’re super rad! 🎸👌
Coooool guitar! 😎
Thanks! 🙏🎸🍻
Beautiful looking guitar and sounds great!
Thanks so much! 🙏🎸
Killer guitar and killer shirt!
Ha! Thanks so much and sharp eye! 🙏🎸🙌🍻
Out standing !!
Thanks so much Norman! 🙏🎸🙌
That is the coolest Tele that I ever seen!!!!! 😎 I love ❤️ Shreddy Tele guitars!!!! ITS just as good as those Jackson Soloist and Jackson Randy Rhoads guitars!!!! Japan always made good decent guitars in the 80s!!!! Very reliable!!!! 😊🙂😀🙂😄
It really is! 80s Japan stuff is top shelf! 🎸👌🙌
@dexdeimos425 The high quality of Japanese guitars just blows my mind!!!! They can make beautiful ultra custom guitars to traditional classic looking guitars with practical modern player features to good economical guitars!!!! Japanese guitars are like good running Hondas and Toyotas!!!! LOL!!!! I miss that from American made guitars!!! 😢 😞
Kramer guitar has got a factory in China
I just read on Google that Gibson is moving Kramer guitar to China
Fantastic, thank you!
Thanks - glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🎸
Very interesting and informative video! I walked into a Pawn shop a week or so ago and found a Yamaha RGX 312 for $30.00!! They were selling it for parts. I snagged it and took it home to test. The pots needed cleaning and I used some contact cleaner to get that done. It was also missing a knob and one of the bridge screws. I was able to replace all of them, put new strings on it, and had a tremelo bar for a Strat style guitar which worked (I cannot find the type that originally went on this thing). I cleaned it up and it sounds great!! It was also in pretty good condition! I am just a couch guitarist, so this type of guitar is right up my alley!! 🎸
That sounds like an incredible score! Hang on to that thing! 🎸
@@dexdeimos425 I plan on it! I replaced the knobs with gold metal ones and have a gold tremelo bar. The guitar is black so it is gold on black and looks awesome! The only thing I have left to do is replace two springs on the center single coil pickup. Whoever owned it must have removed it for some reason and I want to raise it a bit.
I need a back plate for my purple one! Do you know where I could find one? I wish Ibanez would bring back this headstock. Whoever is in charge at Ibanez is missing an opportunity to boost there sales! Limited Edition Reissues of these old guitars!
No idea where you can get one - sorry! Maybe whammyparts.com? It’s not terribly difficult to cut your own if you can’t find one. I’ve had to do that for a few guitars I couldn’t source parts for 🤷♂️. Good luck! 🎸
I had two of these.... one made in China one made in Indonesia. The one made in Indonesia was complete SHIT. Any gl200mt prior to 2010 is way better than the ones you get today
are these guitars just spray painted and then have a gloss finish, or are they Acrylic paint jobs?
Looks to be a pro polyurethane paint job. I would imagine that a professional paint gun was used. It's definitely a poly gloss clear coat after the fact. As for the stripes, I'm not entirely sure how they do that. They seem to wrap around the curves of the guitar, so likely taped off and removed after the yellow and white coats are applied. I am definitely not an expert on guitar painting though, but there is no way I'd be able to replicate something of this quality.
@@dexdeimos425 Wow, thank you so much for this information, really appreciate your time.
Man, I just would never buy something like that. Because within 6 months I’d end up getting the money to buy the real thing after owning a fake one. It’s Like my Telecaster. I bought a Harley Benton, thought I’d be okay with it not being a real Tele. Nope. I had to get the real thing. But i just wouldn’t buy a copy with the name brand of another. The Fender company had to work hard for their reputation and these Chinese companies that build fakes are doing something that is really wrong.
My parents bought this guitar in black brand new for me when I graduated middle school. I then proceeded to abuse it as any teenage metalhead would throughout high school. I did not know what I had at the time. Man I miss that guitar. Watching this video brought back a lot of fond memories. Thank you for the video!
Thanks so much- super glad this video brought you back to that time! 🙏🎸
Just stole one from Reverb for $450 CDN!
Epic deal! Hold on to it!!!! These punch well above that price tag! 👌🎸
It is a hot guitar
Well done bro
Thanks so much. I’m super glad you liked it! 🙏🎸🍻
I have the floyd rose special or more like special needs and it is too clunky and unstable to even use the strings pop out too
Nice job!!! Great playing, great video, that's a beautiful guitar!
Thank you so much! 🙏 Funny (and sad) story, I was going to record all of this with an old Goya LP, but it fell off a floor stand shortly after I started filming and broke at the headstock 😱. Hopefully I’ll get some videos with it up soon (when it’s fixed)! This Gibby isn’t too hard on the eyes though! 🤣👌🎸🙏🍻
@@dexdeimos425 can't wait to see it!
I think I'll just purchase a real EVH Kramer 5150, then I bypass all these issues that require mods. Nice playing dude!
Thanks! Yeah, you’ll probably be happier with a real one. These play ok, but just too much stuff that’s awkwardly off. 🤣🙏🎸
Holy crap, something in the water. I recently started listening to Bullet Boys after a long hiatus. Their debut album was killer. This song and Hard As A Rock, what more can you say, lol.
Yeah, killer band! It was that song « for the love of money » that I heard somewhere recently and reminded me of these guys. 🎸🍻
This is really good!
Thank you! 🙏🍻🎸
Bulletboys, Smooth Up in Ya! 🔥
Yessir! 🎸
Bulletboys are pretty cool and entertaining! Well done man! I like the fact you're diving into the more unusual hair metal bands! Also, their live show from the 80's was absolutely hilarious....I recommend it as they were up against hecklers and a bad crowd but no fucks givin from the band....pure gold 😅😂😂😂
Thanks a bunch! 🙏 I love a lot of these more obscure tunes. I’ll try to keep remembering to record solos to them when I figure them out! 😅🤣🎸🍻
Great job, totally awesome!!!!😎 🎸🤘
Thanks so much Matt! I’ve always loved this tune! 🙏🎸
Great playing once again!
Thanks so much! 🙏 This one was a nasty to transcribe! 🤣🍻
I ordered one f these, exactly the same and i placed the order in may and i had not received it by Nov , i lodged a complaint and then a month later they shipped it .. the seller then tried to make me withdraw the complaint , but i was pretty steamed up by then ... Long story short .. AliExprerss refunded my money then the guitar showed up a week later... winner , winner....
Sounds good, got Eddie's tone that's for sure. I would leave the Kramer on the headstock at least so I could pretend that I was playing the real thing. I think I'm going to order one.
the reason they can do this is they make them imperfect purposefully
